New Rig! - FS Issues - and im very sad.

Featured Replies

Just my thoughts. Delete that cfg and let FS build a new one . Very important. With your rig, you don't need to tweak or turn off anything. FS9 runs just fine on new equipment. However, You must know how set up and use that equipment.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

Can you post a screen shot of the processes tab of task manager, maximised window, with show processes from all users ticked? It might be something outside of FS causing the problems..Don`t give up hope.CheersJames

I set TBM at everything from 100 - 40, and again locked the frames, but still - a very jerky fs :( :( :(

Here you go, this is with the pmdg in VOZ YSSY with nothing else installed....Untitled.pngI havent given up yet but certainlyy thought about it, ALSO just note that my monitor is automatically locking my frames to 60, some sort of V-sync so i dont know how to disable it?

Hmmmm !Something wrong here :44 processes , you show only 17 (processes from all users unchecked)and 3 iexplore.exe running. Have you others users on your machine ? FriendlyPierre N

Hello,Just some remarks:Those can reduce the FS2004 performances ..... :( DWM.EXE is running (not needed for FS2004)dwm.exe is a Desktop Window Manager\r from Microsoft Corporation\r belonging to Microsoft

Hey guys, Im still very new to the forum and was unsure where to put this topic. Well here is my issue.... The new PC is as follows:GIGABYTE MOBO : GA-EP43-DS3LXFX GPU: XFX radeon HD4890 Xtreme 1gbCORSAIR PSU: HX750WGSKILL RAM: GSKILL TRIDENT 4gbINTEL CPU: Q9550CPU COOLER: Xigmatek Dark KnightMonitor: Viewsonic 24"O/S : Windows 7 x64ok so my graphics card came with Tom Clancy HAWX, which is a very graphical demanding game, and running it maxed out, at 1900x1020 (or something around that. max res) i get well over 60fps! In it automatically locks the frames at 60?! So playing HAWX, everything is a delight, stunning visuals, smooth gameplay and at a constant locked 60 - no issues. For some reason when i put FS2004 on it, it didnt look so good...Flytampa Dubai and PMDG 737 (no ai or any other addon) gave me 60 frames -dont forget its locked, when i was up in the air and nothing around me, however when there was a building in the way/distance the frames fall to about 30...and when im on the ground at the beginning of the runway, in 2d cockpit i get around 25-35 frames, and it is very jerky and not smooth.however in the cessna, everything is perfect, but still abit jerky....ive had this problem on my old rig and the new rig was to remove this problem so im quite ######... ( granted the new rig's performance is better but not significantly) At one stage of my old rig i could run everything full ai in OMDB in the pmdg 747 and the sim ran perfect, not the highest frames but very smooth....so i was just wondering if you trust gurus out there know anything on how to help me it would be very very much appriciated! What i dont understand is how can it run HAWX sooo damn well but struggle with FS...* note : also noticed frames go down drastically when gauges are in the view.I just want my sim to run smoothly!! THANKS GUYS - really desperate!
Hmm. I like the suggested idea of deleting the fs9.cfg and letting fs9 rebuilt it. I would like to ask, How did FS9 with no add ons for you? Also are you running FS9 in 1900x1020 like HAWX? Is the same problem happening to the same degree at all resolutions? My own experience with FS9 on my desktop using Vista was that even with an nVidia 8600GT, an inferior GPU to yours, I found FPS drop in areas with a high density of sim objects/AI and shadows. The ground scenery with shadows has been a killer for me. By default I like to turn the shadows off. They noticeably slowed the sim down for me and never looked great. I found this happening around the Tokyo area with Add-on sim objects and Overland's RJAA. I also had the FPS at unlimited. THe only other time i saw drops in FPS were in high 3D cloud density areas. I think this is a FPS pig on any system.Everything about your system looks sound. Specs and good and your CPU usage looks good. You don't need to end anything like was suggested in my opinion. My laptop is running Win7 64bit and i never close any of the suggested programs and get a solid 20 fps that I capped it at.In summary see if these tweaks help on top of what you have done:--Anti-Aliasing: Off--Ground Scenery Shadows: Off--Try a lower resolution to see if the problem persists. If all that doesn't work on top of everyone's suggestions... I would re-install FS9 and v9.1 update and no add-ons. Then see if the problem is still there...maybe it is a scenery that is not optimized to go over 20fps. :( (That would be sad, i think.)Good Luck with your challenge. Don't give up!!

Hey Niyoko,Im hanging in here, i wont quit just yet...HAWX is running at full res, and i still have the stutter in FS9 in all resolutions.the problem is not there with just defaults.as i mentioned earlier i had this problem on my old rig and had this same problem after countless reinstalls.... The weired thing was, on my old system, (before i reimaged it) i had this problem but as soon as i inserted a USB it fixed it...so im thinkin..... should i increase the voltage on my GPU?

I do see a lot of references to HAWX in this debate.HAWX is written specifically for multi core processors - so a comparison with a single core game such as FS2004 is pointless. It doesn't matter how many processors you have, FS can only use one, and in any event the memory and in particular the memory bus is shared with all other processes, creating a bottle-neck. The processor here I believe is 2.83ghz and unlikely to produce any better results than a single core processor of the same speed. So the old rule applies - to get the best out of FS, turn off everything else. Oh, and dont believe the hype of manufacturers about the latest and greatest (remember Intel and the faster internet connection scam). Just my opinion.Dave

From your task manager, it is obvious that you need to clean up your Win7 first before you can think of tuning FS9. Also make sure you defragment (absolute must) space then name.I've just noted a few processes:1. Search indexer should definitely be turned off;2. you have 3 iexplorer running; you should have nonePierre

I'd missed this reading the posts, but you really MUST turn off VSync on the graphics card. That will certainly make a difference. Not sure how to do it on a Radeon card as I'm strictly NVidea, someone else help?A look at the Applications page may help too.DaveJust looked this up:The app you need for Radeon is called "Catalyst".To turn off Vsync look under the OpenGL and D3D tabs in display properties. What you want is not headed "Vsync" but "Wait for vertical sync". Make sure its set to "always off"edit 2I should have looked closer at your TM shot. I see you have Catalyst Control Centre running already.

Not always the best choice, as on my system I get horrible tearing with vsync off. Also I don't recommend you lower resolution or turn off AA (looks horrible). Your problem is not with settings but setup with software. Again, first try to completely uninstall fs9 and install a fresh vanilla copy of it...put all your graphic settings in, and see how it flies default. If it's as smooth as you expect it to be, start adding some add-ons and check every so often...if only one add-on makes it stutter..you have your answer. If the new install of fs9 doesn't work..its a problem with your windows install and the processes running (I have 19 processes running when I start fs9 instead of 44). I would suggest reformatting and then using the many guides available to install everything properly.

Yeah I too disagree re: the vsync. I run it all the time on pretty much all my games. It actually makes little difference at all to framerates (other than the obvious hard limit of whatever yr monitors refresh rate is) but I find it greatly improves smoothness and I hate the tearing that occurs without it...
