JS41 and Windows 7 UAC

Recommended Posts

I'm sure there must be a way to disable it properly in the registry, it is still basically Vista after all is said and done.

Cheers, Andy.

I found there is a difference when FSX is installed in the Program Files folder: Program Files folder + UAC off no problems other (e.g. C:\FSX) + UAC off: occasional freeze

Guys, we're really not sure what the issue is exactly yet. Something does happen, several of us have verified it, but most of the team is not running Win 7 RTM yet (if you're running the RC you're fine, this issue is occurring only with the final RTM code that MSDN people etc have access to) I was able to verify that a full FSX uninstall (including registry entries etc) does reset the issue, you don't have to format. We're going to look at this after release and we'll hopefully have it resolved before the actual retail Windows 7 release. My fingers are very much crossed that MS didn't do something that isn't going to get fixed because of ACES no longer existing... it worked perfectly fine in the RC, so I was pretty upset to see this come up with the RTM. Initially I thought everything was fine with the RTM too, but then this popped up a few days after I'd installed RTM.There is a workaround I discovered, and that's to load up the default Cessna 172 first and then load the J41 from there. It's an inconvenience, but the plane does work when you do this. Here's what the issue looks like - deflected control surfaces in the Free Flight screen and then blank/frozen gauges in the plane once you actually load it.Please note too that this issue is not guaranteed to occur or something like that, it's working correctly for me right now and has been for the last few RC versions. We did see it for sure after installing the plane with UAC off though, but I've seen it happen with UAC on now too, just randomly starts happening.
Ryan can you test this, I'm using Vista 64, I never had a problem with the JS41, yesterday I added this line to my fsx cfg file "Disable Preload=1" now Im getting black screens and in the flight window the js41 looks exactly like the pic you posted. I removed this entry from the cfg and now things are normal again.

I've been able to reproduce this everytime, I just added it again to the cfg file, when I start the flight the aircraft in the flight window is all messed up, when I load the flight all the screens are blank and the PB is off and no sound with the engines running, when I remove this entry from the cfg file and restart fsx the plane returns to normal. I know some people are having problems with blank screens and other issues, thought they might want to check this out, maby it will resolve some issues.

Looks like this may actually be it guys - I may have been mistaken in saying that I was able to run it with Preload disabled... Matt's looking into why this could be happening, hopefully we'll have a fix.

I can reproduce it on Windows 7 RC, too - I just never noticed because I always load a default aircraft first, then the JS41.Windows 7 64-bit RC (build 7100), UAC off, disablepreload=1, installed to D:\FSX. If I select the JS41 now (without loading a default flight first), I see the deflected control surfaces. But as I said, everything works fine with the JS41 with my normal procedure of loading the default FSX flight first, then the JS41. Which everyone probably ought to be doing anyway.

I'm running the Windows 7 64-bit RTM, with UAC off (it was OFF when I installed FSX and All my addons), disablepreload is 1 and I'm also installed at D:\FSX. I am NOT getting any of these issues with the J41. I have the same build on another machine if you'd like me to try installing FSX and the J41 to the standard C:\Program Files(x86) directory.Cheers,Sam Allen
