September 29, 200916 yr I'm just using the stock FS9 Cessna 172. Flights are great, except when I'm right above the numbers, chop the throttle and flare to a full stall landing...all I can see is instrument panel and sky for 10 seconds as I'm slowing down and pulling the nose up. I'm a private pilot so I'm just trying to duplicate my real world technique. I do have trackIR so I can look to the sides, but that doesn't help holding centerline. What's the trick? Only thing I can think of is to quick switch to a view without a panel, but that's not very realistic. Any tips?

September 29, 200916 yr You mentioned you have TrackIR. In that case just simply stretch up and look over the panel as you do in real life, works just fine for me. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
September 30, 200916 yr Tried both of those suggestions. Maybe I'm sitting too low to start with. Thanks for the replies. I'll play around with the seating position.

You'll find many add-ons where you'll have to adjust the seating in the VC. If you go into the aircraft.cfg file you'll see the entry for eyepoint. Play around with that until you find something you like for a particular aircraft. Once you save the settings you'll never have to adjust again for that particular bird. Also I hope your using decent aircraft outside of the default. The default bird's VC's aren't complete leaving apparent unfinished sections of the VC with the slightest adjustment to eyepoint. Get some decent add-ons... FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
September 30, 200916 yr You may also wish to play around with the settings in TrackIR software once you get your seat position settled. You can increase the sensitivity in TrackIR for movement in the Y axis if it's not enough for now. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
September 30, 200916 yr If you are using a CH yoke- I have the rightmost toggle switch on the case (beside the Landing Gear toggle Sw) programmed as the seat height "lever".In FS Assignments, "Eyepoint Move Up" - is set to Joystick Button 05 - No repeat. And "Eyepoint Move Down" is set to Joystick Button 06 - No repeat.Easy to adjust seat height and view this way.Alex Reid

September 30, 200916 yr Why did I not think of mapping this to the joystick buttons...LOLHi jon- only problem for me with this is that it does not shift my outer monitors secondary views- Lfwd & RFwd - only main view fwd. So the three views then are not horizon synched. Some planes such as DreamFleet Baron & Bonanza have a click/touch spot which lowers the panel itself rather than raising the horizon for approaches.Alex ReidEdit- Should have added that keying the Spacebar will restore the default horizon setting.

Maybe a good solution for a 3-monitor guy. October 1, 200916 yr That's a good idea about mapping a joystick button to seating position. Also a good idea about changing the config file so I don't have to adjust every time. I will try those. Also, I am using the default FS9 cessna 172, no add-ons yet. I'm still having trouble keeping it level and on centerline on final. I don't know if it's me, the Saitek controls or the default cessna characteristics. Maybe it's time I get the Flight1 172 add-on sooner than later and see how that flys.

October 1, 200916 yr When I use Track IR, I usually end up raising the seat a little and looking slightly down when I'm in "neutral position". You can adjust that by bending down a little and looking slightly up, then press "center view" and then relax back to your regular neutral position. That way you start out a little higher and slightly looking down.Hope I explained that well enough, english being my 2nd language :(
