October 26, 200916 yr I have made the leap from 32bit Vista to 64bit Windows 7....had to do a clean install, so did so on a new hard disk....and now have a dual boot (into Vista or Win 7). I have also done a clean install of FSX and am slowly rebuilding all my add-ins. Note that as mentioned in other posts, you cannot do an upgrade from 32bit to 64...it has to be a clean install. First on was the brilliant J41...absolutely no problems with the reactivation or running it in Win 7. I have to tell you all that i am getting significant improvements in both frame rates and loading time...which i guess is mainly down to the move onto 64bit. For those interested, I am running a system which is now 2 years old (CPU: X9650 Quad unclocked, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 8800GTX). All in all, I am delighted by the move across onto 64bit and consider Win 7 to be a big improvement on Vista. I hope this helps anyone who is contemplating the move! Chris Rosling

October 28, 200916 yr Is it not true that you have to have a 64-bit processor in order to install a 64-bit OS?Cheers, Richard Cheers, Richard Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.2 GHz, 16 GB memory, 1 TB SSD, GTX 1080 Ti, 28" 4K display Win10-64, P3Dv5, PMDG 748 & 777, Milviz KA350i, ASP3D, vPilot, Navigraph, PFPX, ChasePlane, Orbx
October 28, 200916 yr yes, 64bit technology CPU is mandatory (and of course a motherboard which supports this technology) best regards, Alexander Barger
October 28, 200916 yr Just to add my two-cents, last week made the jump to W7 X64 and i've seen quite an improvement as well. No problems with the JS41 at all. -Scotty
October 28, 200916 yr I will upgrade to Windows 7, 32bit (from Vista) in a few days and would like to know: do I have to expect any problems concerning the PMDG 747/MD-11, FSX and Windows 7? Do the developers think it is safe to use Windows 7? Any experiences yet from Windows 7 users?have the PMDG developers given any opinion on windows 7 64bit yet ? I tried finding an answer to Moonraker's" question but i couldn't find one ... (is it just me who can't find an answer to this topic????? :( ) has anyone tried win7 64 bit home premium yet? and could he/she give an opinion on the OS please as i'm planning on buying a new PC with win7 ... would it be better to stick with Vista 64bit?thx Dan

While the Pro version offers a few more features than HP, it doesn't add significant value IMO to justify the cost. The Computer backup feature, and the Home Domain network being the two major differences for me. Neither one is really needed IMO. Previously I ran XP64, and had the annoying crash now and then, and could never alt-tab at all without a freeze up. It got so bad I would get a CTD at least once a day with FSX. After a fresh clean install of W7, and it hasn't CTD once. And the big thing for me, is that I can alt-tab all day long without an issue. Now if I forget to setup my Track IR, or turn on ASA, I can do it without quitting out of the whole mess. That's a huge plus for me. Also it is a beautful OS, already in my mind this seems to be the best OS come out of MS in my opinion. But, one thing I'd say is make sure you check all your mfg to see that they have W7 drivers before taking the plunge. For me, it installed everything - everything, perfectly the first time through. I was amazed. -Scotty

October 30, 200916 yr I think Win 7 is the best OS Microsoft has ever produced and we wholeheartedly recommend the 64-bit version for our products... It is much better than Vista.I just installed it. I am now starting the daunting task of installing FS9 and all my add ons. Hopefully I can fly by Saturday. This is the first 64bit OS I have used but just from the install and installing other stuff on it, it is much faster than XP Pro 32 bit. Looking forward to no more OOM errors.CheersRichie.
