Hi AndrewThank you for encouraging words, the offer, one day maybe, you never can tell.As for the EGLC approaches, I have seen that video, and just watching it was enough, what it must have been like in the Pax cabin I can only imagine, and as for you thinking you may probably blown a tyre, I whish I was that good, I do not think that I would be allowed another go at it in the real world.I sometimes wonder if the pilots using EGLC, say amongst themselves

having great fun at the moment with EGLC and your repaint. Thank you! Approach plates on a Kindle and off we go. Not easy though to slow her down sometimes!

HiThank you for the feedback, I know what you mean about trying to slow her down, it is not an easy task on that approach, and If I could get that nailed, I would have a better than fighting chance of getting her down in one piece, as the bills for tyres alone would have been astronomical in the real world, although in the real world, I do not think I would have been given a second chance to try the approach, or get my hands on a J41 for that matter.Take care, and have fun.Jim Hodkinson

Hi NicoJust to let you know that it looks as though I will not get around to doing the FlyBe repaint for either yourself or for myself after all due to a worsening of a long standing health problem, and having just received a visit from my doctor who has increased my pain meds, I will longer be able to do any more repaints, and doing any simming is not looking to good either,My apologies for this, and I hope that you understand.Jim Hodkinson

Jim,Sad with the news.I (and I am sure ALL) wish you the best. Get well and please do come back to this hobby to which you gave so much!Good luck on this endeavour and see you soon!Best regardsEdmundo

Hey Jim,No problem at all! Your health is far more important than this FlyBe repaint. After all this still remains a hobby.Take care and hope to welcome you back on this forum soon!Kind regards,Nico

Hi allThank you all for the concern and both the kind words and regards, I really do appreciate them, and although my PC time is for the present limited, I will be dropping by when I can, and I hope that I can find some middle ground with the condition that will allow for me to get back into simming and the repainting side, as I am already missing it (is there a simmers anonymous)Back as soon as possible, and once again my thanks for the concern.Jim Hodkinson

Jim, your repaints are incredible. As I try to learn this craft (once referred to by someone as a "Dark Art"), I can appreciate your talent more and more. The repaint kit for the JS41 does not seem as user friendly as the one for the 747--which is what I have been learning on thanks to a post in these forums. I can paint the fuselage just fine, but when I go to put it in the dirty template (or clean for that matter) I have trouble lining it up--the reflections from the upper half get transported to the lower half (which of course happens multiple times since you have to cut left front, left rear, right front, and right rear). You cannot flatten the image because you later want to get rid of the "cage" which you use to line it up. You can't get rid of the "cage" beforehand, because you need it to line up the repaint. There is no cut template, but even if there were, you cannot cut through multiple layers.I'd like to see my repaint on the aircraft in FSX, but at this rate, I do not see how I am going to do it unless I paint in the clean or dirty templates (and I'll never get stripes, etc. to line up). I am sure you have no difficulty with this, but could you explain a little about how you do this with the JS41? Thanks.

Hi DavidI have to admit that when using the J41 repaint kit I may not be doing it a per the manual, but I have found a way that seems to work for me at least, so I will try my best to describe the version of the process I have come to use, purists please stop reading now..I have to say that I rarely use the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_Template.psd file, unless the repaint has say a logo or fuselage stripe that overlaps the mid fuselage section, and even then I tend to just use the left hand template and flip the image for the right hand side when I get it into the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file, but when I do use it, I do not use the shading section at all, as I prefer to use the shading that is already available in the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file (or Dirty depending on which version you think suites the repaint), this is a purely personal preference, but we will go with the shading that is in the template file, and using both the left and right hand side template for the benefit of this description. So you have both the left and right hand sides of your repaint finalised in the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_Template.psd file, now comes the time to transfer it to the main PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file for the final bits and pieces to be added.Fist with the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_Template.psd file still open, select and open the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file, and make sure that the Fuse_Alignment_Guide layer is visible it will be needed later, keep them both as tiled windows, so that you can easily move between the two.Now with the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file selected click on the Windscreenfame section so that it is highlighted in blue, this gives you a good insertion point for when you come to transfer the main repaint layers from the Template file, with that done make the Template file active by clicking on it, and with the Template file active select the layers for the side that you want to copy over into the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file by highlighting the first one and then with the control key pressed down, left click on all the other layers that you want to copy over, including any shadow or shine layers that you want copied. To get the selected layers into the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean.psd file, make the Template file active move the layer box into a position where you can easily drag the selected layers horizontally into the Clean file, when you are comfortable with the position of the layer selection box, and the template file is the active window, place your cursor over one of the highlighted layers, now hold down the shift key and then left click and hold down the left mouse button, keeping the mouse button held down drag the selected layers horizontally from the Template file over to the Clean file that is already opened and then release the left mouse button, this will / should copy all the layers that you had highlighted from the Template file into the Clean file, they will not be in the correct location relative to the existing fuselage of the Clean file, but they will all be there and still highlighted. You can now if you wish minimise the Template file, so with the only active window being the Clean file, and the copied items still selected, you can now using the wireframe guides move the selected layers around for final lining up with the fuselage sections of the Clean file, do not worry to much if you accidentally deselect a layer you copied over, you can always use the undo button, I know that I use it a lot.So far so good, personally I tend to start with the lower Left hand side front fuselage section, so line up your copied and highlighted layers using the fuselage guide of the Template file to line your selections up with the now visible Fuse_Alignment_Guide, when you are happy with the alignment, I then with the cursor positioned over any of the highlighted layers right click and choose Duplicate Layers, which are then copied and become the active layers for you to position on the lower left hand side rear fuselage section as you did for the front section. Now that we have our one sided aircraft we need to do the same for the in this case right hand side, in order to do that just follow the above, but selecting only selecting the layers for that side.Right we now have both the left and right fuselage sections positioned correctly, but we have large sections of the copied fuselage strip, shadow, shine or logo that overhang the front or rear sections of the Clean file, and we need to remove them, not a problem if it is standard layer, you can just select and make the layer you want to edit active by selecting it, and use the rectangle select and delete to remove the overlapping part of the repaint you do not want, but if it is a Shape layer that you had made using the Pen, then I find the easiest way is to change the Shape layer into a Rasterized layer, to do this make the Shape layer you want to edit the only active layer, then right click on the layer and select Rasterize Layer, you can now rectangle select and delete any overlapping part of the stripe, logo or whatever the shape was in the same way as a normal layer, you can also use this method for any text layers that you need to remove overlapping sections from.I hope that the above makes some form of sense, and more than that I hope it is of some help.If you do need anything clarifying, and you probably will with my state of concentration at present, then just drop me a line and I will try my best to help, it may not be an immediate response as my PC time is limited for the foreseeable future, but I will get back to you with any assistance I can give.Take care, and I hope the above does help you to get your creation into the air.And thank you for you extremely kind words, it is appreciated.Jim Hodkinson

Jim--Thanks so much. extremely helpful and detailed. I was sure I was overlooking something simple, but until I read Dan's repaint tutorial, I had zero time using Photoshop. I will let you know how it goes! Then maybe I can help with some of these repaints, though not up to your standards or speed, of course!

One other question--the instructions in the paint kit for the spec file merely say:"fill this with black with Blending settings of Mode - Multiply and opacity set to 76%."This is way too little information for my low level of experience with Photoshop. What are they talking about--a new layer? Thanks.

Hi David, Great to see you still painting! Us painters are a small bread and we could sure use your help! That said lets get you up to speed.I cover all of this in the tut, but unfortunately it is spread out and not sequential. I haven't done a JS41,,, yet, but let me see if I can shed light,,, I mean dark on this new layer for you.

  1. Create a new layer by either clicking the "Create new layer" shortcut in the bottom right of the layers panel, or by pressing "Shift+CTRL+N".
  2. Fill it with black, well that's the easy part.
  3. Set the blending mode which is in the top of the layers panel (It will be labled "Normal" as default) to Multiply.
  4. To the right of it you will see "Opacity", use your mouse to click and drag the slider to your desire opacity.

Was just passing through so that's all I have time for. If you need more help I'll take a look at the paintkit when I get back.Jim, Hope your feeling alright. Ya know, I really only bought the JS41 so I could come help pick up your work load keeping all your fans happy :(

Hi DavidDan has hit the proverbial nail on the head, that is exactly what you need to do, actually he has gone one better, I did not know the

Haha, well I thank you for getting FSP on my behalf, that was very nice of you to do :( You are in for a major treat! It is very adddddicting and adds a lot of enjoyment to simming. Let me know if you have any questions about it, I use it every flight. One thing I will say is to make sure you set something like a 5% chance for failures. The FSP failures are sweet! And makes you learn the systems better in all the aircraft you fly. It has helped me learn to quickly reroute my course as well as choose new airports in the immediate area (thank god for the "Airport" button on the ND).Thanks for the compliments on the Maiden livery. The engines were fairly easy. I did what's called painting with effects. Something I'd like to touch on some day when the oppurtunity presents itself. I look forward to getting back behind the brush soon but things have been pretty busy lately and I have a project I've had to put off that I really need to help with.Glad to hear your feeling better! I will be PM'ing you my address for any leftover painkillers, haha.Take care,

Jim/Dan--thanks so much for the encouragement and assistance! I know it is basic stuff, but all new to me! And exciting to see my JS41 livery on the plane the other night--next engine Nacelles (yes, I know the right side is backward--that's where the 747 and JS41 are different, but I've corrected that as well as making some other adjustments):
