December 15, 200916 yr Has anyone found a good way to get realistic water colors? I've tried using UTX's options and the various levels of water adjustments in FSX, but it still doesn't look right. Especially in FL, I can't get the dark green, muddy water color of the inland ponds/lakes. They always appear too blue. Can someone give me the best combination they've found using UTX and FSX?
December 15, 200916 yr Are you using DirectX 10? That should do wonders for graphics (personally not there yet). "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
December 15, 200916 yr Try going to FSWC(google it, FS water configurator) and download the free app they have and experiment with some of the prerendered settings they have. U might like one of them.Best of all its free. BTW you need to sign your real name on these forums.Alex C
December 15, 200916 yr REX also has a screen that lets you customise your water colour. I've had some great results with it. Nick
December 15, 200916 yr I agree about REX2. You can pretty much make the water any color you want. FSWC is nice for playing with reflectivity but I found it difficult to adjust the water color properly. I'm more interested in adjusting the color of topical areas and increasing the reflectivity makes the tropical water look right but the ocean water too bright.Keep in mind that no mater what color you make it, it is up to FSX's water class to determine what textures are represented. A prime example of where FSX does a bad job is Cancun. The Gulf and Caribbean sides have the tropical water and the lagoon has it as well. The lagoon, however, should look like a lake and should be much darker. December 15, 200916 yr UTX's green plankton option plus FSWC tweaks to tone down the specular glint have helped me a lot. But because of the variety of waterclasses present at any given time, some bodies of water will still come up too blue.John

December 16, 200916 yr I think you should first look at the waterclass assignment, before making a world-wide texture change. Could be simply changing waterclass from 1 to 7, 8, or 9 would solve your problem.scott s..

Can someone give me the best combination they've found using UTX and FSX?I just reinstalled FSX and UTX on a new computer and decided that I didn't need to change any settings to get the proper water colors in Florida as was necessary when I did these installations on the previous computer. The only thing I know is different is that this installation includes Cloud9 landclass given priority over UTX, except in urban areas. I don't know if the Cloud9 landclass affects water color, but what I have now has green algae growth on the lakes. Art
