Reccommended graphics card for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi folks,I having trouble with my NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT that nobody including nvidia can diagnose. Regularly when flying in FSX the screen will go dark and I get the message that the "dispal adapter has quit responding but has recovered". Fine except the picture never returns. Anyway can I get your thoughts on the best video card to use with FSX?Thanks,Eric Olson

My opinion would be a Geforce 9800GT-512MB minimum at $100 to a Geforce GTX260-896MB at $200. How much the video card helps depends on your CPU.Edit: I Googled dispal adapter and learned that your problem is with the display adapter or the disposal adapter. Did you check the kitchen sink?

You should post this in the hardware forum, you'll get your answer quicker. It'll most likely get moved there anyway.

As mentioned, tell us the rest of your system so we can match it better.

Lots of things you can do before moving on to another graphics card. First and foremost, uninstall the graphics driver and reinstall. If that doesn't fix it you should also delete your fsx.cfg file. If it's still not fixed you'll need to do some hardware testing. I suggest downloading one of the following programs to stress test the GPU: OCCT, Furmark, or ATi Tool which despite its name supports Nvidia cards as well. If running the stress test in any of these applications causes visual artifacts or a test failure or even a system lockup/restart then you have a faulty graphics card.

It's not a mistake. Advertised FSB speeds are actually data rates, not clock speeds. Same goes for current memory technologies.

After removing outdated driver use Driver Sweeper to remove any remnants that could cause trouble. Some times reverting to older drivers helps too, when issuing a new driver nVidia usually gives with one hand and takes with the other.Furmark benchmarking is for OpenGL, but still provides a free sample of benchmarking, I

The 512MB 9600GT with 182.50 drivers is actually a very good fit for your machine, assuming it is not defective..I'm happily using a 9600GT on my Q6600 configuration and see no reason to switch.. :(
