January 2, 201016 yr The RWY 19 River Approach into KIAD: I think you mean KDCA, and don't forget the Expressway approach at Laguardia runway 31 (KLGA) Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
January 2, 201016 yr Wow, just wanted to come in and say GREAT thread. I've been looking for some challenging approaches, and also I have grown a bit tiresome of the USA airports (so many airports to choose from!), and I have found many interesting foreign airports here. Definitely going to find some time to fly to these airports later today!!BTW to the above posts, It must be KIAD, the 19 RWYs at IAD have a regular visual approach and all have ILS, which is the preferred type of approach :( See You In The Skies...gman!"Impossible things are simply those which so far have never been done." - Elbert Hubbard

January 2, 201016 yr Hi GuysJust thought i'd drop by again to say thanks for these suggestions. I did purchase the MHTG Toncontin addon. Although nothing spectacular by today's standards in FSX, the package is far better that FSX default. What a hoot i've been having with it. This approach is simply amazing - surely one of the most dangerous in the world is it not? I also have Kai Tak from Fly Tampa and, although difficult, the IGS13 approach can be mastered as the descent rate is pretty constant. Toncontin on the other hand, i find MUCH more challenging. I've been flying circuits for a couple of days now with 737s, 757s & a 767, but still only manage about 1 in 3 'acceptable' landings!Judging from the video footage i've seen, i'd say that pilots must actually fly 'wide' of the published approach? Be very curious to know if that's correct? If anyone can now tell me how to add airports and navaids to the PMDG database I'd be extremely grateful. I'd love to try this with some of their aircraft. So, once again, many thanks for the pointer..... and happy new year to you all!I believe Latin VFR has made a patch to help the shimmering issue they had with this package.http://www.latinvfr.com/
January 2, 201016 yr Author Okay guys, now i'm in trouble..... seems I don't really have the right aircraft for some of these approaches, especially Toncontin.I have the PMDG 744 & MD11, which are simply too big. I also have their JS41 but I'm not a lover of turbos. I have the LDS767, which is also too big. I have the Captain Sim 757, which would be the right size, but I don't find the FMS reliable enough, and the VC gauges are a bit small to see. I also have Wilco's 737-300/400/500, which is fine for hand or A/P flying, but hopeless at following an FMC route. So, I've now realised I don't have a high quality, small to medium commercial jet with a good nav system, and that would be an aircraft seen at Toncontin. One of my MUSTS is a good functioning FMC, but I'm unsure if there's anything left out there that fits the bill.Any/all suggestion welcome???Thanks Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

It's not the biggest of birds but it works well and the systems seem very realistic although I'm not an expert on such things :( Tom Why not read some useful tips and tricks - http://forum.avsim.n...22#entry1965722

Normally, a good all around number is 700 FPM.However, how you go about finding that number (700) is what you need to research and learn how to do.The Level-D, and 747 Training videos by Angle of Attack are a good source for learning procedures like this.I highly recommend them. The 747 more so than the 767, because the 747 is their second, more polished video.
January 2, 201016 yr Author Would the maddog md80 be of any use? It's not the biggest of birds but it works well and the systems seem very realistic although I'm not an expert on such things :(Ah, it's funny, I've always sort of fancied that, but just not sure it would be seen there. Any idea how I'd find out? January 2, 201016 yr This is a repetitive question. Recent thread on the subject was here:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...p;#entry1517419 Michael J.
January 2, 201016 yr Author This is a repetitive question. Recent thread on the subject was here:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...p;#entry1517419 Yes Michal, I'm aware it's a repetitive question. So are many, many questions that get asked on most FS forums. However, things change and move on all the time, as more and more developers release more and more scenery packages, making more and more attractive approaches.Wow! Is that a record the number of 'more' in one sentence I wonder :(EDIT:PS Thanks though, that was a good thread. Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
January 2, 201016 yr However, things change and move on all the time, as more and more developers release more and more scenery packages, making more and more attractive approaches.Well, your first question was about approaches and not scenery packages. Actually as far as 'fun' approaches are concerned - very little changed over the last years. You should have been asking about approaches-scenery combos. Michael J.
January 3, 201016 yr Author You should have been asking about approaches-scenery combos.Okay-Dokay Michal, I'll consider myself duly reprimanded :( :( In the meantime..... I've just downloaded and installed all the San Jaun (TJSJ) charts from Navigraph, and there's nothing showing up for 'Lagoon Visual Rwy8'. Can anyone tell me, has it been replaced/removed?I can see some references to it and very small b/w charts from a Google search, but no decent plates.Couldn't help myself :( went and bought the Maddog Pro. January 3, 201016 yr The video of the landing at Isafjodur Iceland is interesting. It's definately not a CATIII airport!!!This landing approach at Nizza is good fun also. look here and page down to the videoVololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
