February 25, 201016 yr I found it, the Miracle Tweak, and I want to share it now, with You, fellow Simmers:I have my modest system set up as per NickN's excellent guide, and it gives a very good performance.Only problem is all the add ons I keep adding! Tongass Fjords X - low FPS around SitkaManhattan X - phew!Aerosoft F-16 - more phew!- and so on and on....Tonight, I did the tweak - in a rage I turned down the following sliders to this:LOD: MediumMesh Complex: 50Mesh resolution: 19 mTexture resolution: 1 mScenery complexity: NormalAutogen complexity: NormalSpecial Effects: Medium- all other settings around low/medium.Guess what?SMOOTH FLYING, 30-35 FPS, and what's most important: I can't see any difference in the scenery quality, it looks great!Lesson:People need to get those sliders WAY down, it's a total waste to keep them "up there!"My system:AMD Phenom Quad @ 2.6 GhzXFX 9600 Alpha Dog6 Gb 800 DDR 2 Kingston RAMThat's it - go figure!

February 25, 201016 yr yep, with FSX it is a mindset/expectation thing that all sliders need to be maxed to enjoy the sim, like a mentally that we are missing something if they are not, LOL. Best, Michael KDFW
February 25, 201016 yr its a miracle....................................but not a tweak. :(yep, with FSX it is a mindset/expectation thing that all sliders need to be maxed to enjoy the sim, like a mentally that we are missing something if they are not, LOL.Well, I sure do miss a lot of trees with autogen at normal...! :( :(
February 25, 201016 yr yep, with FSX it is a mindset/expectation thing that all sliders need to be maxed to enjoy the sim, like a mentally that we are missing something if they are not, LOL.I've been saying that for two years now. Many newcomers (especially FS9 a really excited user) get the "slider high" as I've called it. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
February 25, 201016 yr Wow, adjusting the sliders! This is groundbreaking and totally warrants the "miracle" label!
February 25, 201016 yr In all seriousness the nickN guide is a great starting point to setting fsx up. But ultimately it is a start point and will take some fine tuning to get it to run smoothly with the variations in hardware and software on each system. So moving the sliders around is surely the way forward. My latest install of fsx I didn't even touch the fsx.cfg file I just use the sliders and nhancer to control things. Got to admit it's the best it's been.I also think there is a huge merit in good pc housekeeping!!Tom Tom Why not read some useful tips and tricks - http://forum.avsim.n...22#entry1965722
February 26, 201016 yr Commercial Member My only word of slider caution is that Tongass Fjords X requires the terrain mesh resolution to be at 10m or lower. Using 19m will cause the waterfronts at Sitka & Petersburg to exhibit some graphical anomalies. Nothing that will wreck your flight, mind you, but it looks a little funky. Other than that, I'm a big fan of slider tweakage. :( Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack). February 26, 201016 yr I've been saying that for two years now. Many newcomers (especially FS9 a really excited user) get the "slider high" as I've called it.I've been in slider treatment in Arizona for some time now. I believe Tiger Woods will be joining our group soon. The hope is we will be able to manage our slider addiction and return to the arms of our loved ones. :(

February 26, 201016 yr Is it a "Miracle Tweak" to adjust the sliders? No, absolutely not, but I made this headline and post to remind people that FSX has several build-in options to get the best performance for YOUR system! It doesn't have to be anything wildly "mysterious and esoteric" - finding a gem of a tweak somewhere deep down in the CFG, or elsewhere. It's rather simple actually: Look at the settings FSX automatically choose when you do a fresh install! That's the settings for your system, now use it. :(
