May 14, 201016 yr I set up the latest version of Bojote's fantastic shader mod and recompiled as well but am noticing the following banding or "grids" in the water. How can I get rid of this effect, which is really the only thing hurting the mod for me? Thank you for your help!Uploaded with ImageShack.usUploaded with ImageShack.us Alexander Alonso

May 14, 201016 yr Author Since I installed the Shader 3.0 mod I get random CTDs when flying the LDS 767 or PMDG 747 with API.DLL as the faulty module. Is this related to this mod or is it maybe related to the highmemfix=1 entry in the FSX.CFG?Try disabling ENBSeries and you'll not get the API.dll error anymore, it seems ENBSeries and HIGHMEMFIX don't like each other.

If so, that's cool!jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist

(CPU doesn't seem to be affected)

I entered the above in my FSX.cfg and unfortunately I'm still getting the "grids". They appear to be more pronounced when viewing the sun's glare on the water. Could be my imagination but frame rate took a very slight hit when the aircraft is on the ground.Uploaded with ImageShack.us Alexander Alonso

Anyway, there are some other things for you to try, for now simply make sure your water slider is set to 2.0 HIGH and try again, next step download the Waterconstants.xml file that Gerhard uploaded this morning and see if it makes a difference.

I did lower it to "High" but still had the same problem. I then copied Gerhard's "Waterconstants.xml" and restarted FSX but still no cigar.I truly appreciate your help, bojote! I love the other viewing angles and the white-caps, if you will, but those grids towards the sunlight can get annoying. By the way, the photos posted were flying out of Marathon in the Florida Keys. May 15, 201016 yr This may be a stupid question, but er... what exactly does this mod do and what should be the benefit...? Should it make things look a little bit better...? Yes, that's right. I didn't follow this topic very closely... :( I did read some tweaks that might help with high res texture loading or something, but it didn't do anything for me. (I am still looking for a way to get textures loading before I actually get there.)

They used to do that for me when I had them... bad tiling. Its because they are 4096 resolution.David.

(I am still looking for a way to get textures loading before I actually get there.)Jeroen,It does the following:1) Sharpen ground textures in the distance2) Improves reflection, bump and textures for Water3) Allows greater customization of Water effects via WaterConstants.xml4) Improves performance under heavy weather conditions but ONLY for ATI users5) Clouds are slightly improved (barely noticeable)Now, 'technically' what the mod does is make FSX 100% Shader Model 3.0 compatible, which is a more efficient way of representing graphics, unfortunately ONLY new cards (those built after 2005) support Shader Model 3.0 so, Microsoft had to make a choice to use an old Shader Model version with FSX so users with older hardware would still be able to enjoy it.This mod is no 'tweak' or 'breakthrough' its simply an experimental project I started to make more efficient use of Shaders. In this process, users (specially ATI ones) have reported CONSIDERABLE performance increases, but I can't confirm that. I use it for daily flying and in its current state, if I compare it to stock FSX its (at least to me) day and night, specially for WATER and distant textures.
