long haul: Favourite Routes

Featured Replies

Wow. I'm surprised no one likes Lufthansa Cargo flights.EDDF/HKJK (Frankfurt/Nairobi) - About 8-9 hours HKJK/FAJS (Nairobi/Johannesburg) - About 4-5 hours.And then back up. EDDF/TNCC (Frankfurt/Hato) - Between 8-10 hours.All in the MD-11 of course. :(

my cargo flights are usually EHAM-TNCC-KMIA using a Martinair MD11F. (or occasionally a FEDEX MD11 or quite rarely a UPS 747-400F). But my favourite cargo flight is the VHHH-PHNL using a World Airways MD11. The last time i did it i was as heavy as possible for this route and landed practically on fumes!!! gotta love PMDG long haul aircraft. i really hope the upcoming T7 is the long range variants:777-200ER777-200LR777-200LRF777-300ERthese would be my new favourite planes!!! Keep em coming guys. Starting to get some new routes to try!!!

Their routes are great, but their choice of aircraft is only second best. The only big iron I fly is the 744F... I just don't know the MD-11 systems well enough yet. Some day when I have a free weekend I will teach myself

When the recent volcanic ash cloud cancelled my daughter's Air New Zealand flight (ANZ38) from Heathrow to Auckland via Hong Kong I decided to fly it myself using the same livery on the B747-400. (ANZ ZK- SUI). Unfortunately, she couldn't come with me. The two legs are EGLL- VHHH/VHHH - NZAA. You should fly EGLL - VHHH anyway, as it's a premier route, but the Air New Zealand livery is one of the best in the 747 fleet, in my view. I downloaded the real world route from Flightaware and it worked a treat. I loaded 134,500kg of fuel and used the Brookmans Park 5 Juliet SID from Runway 9R landing after an 11 hour flight using the SIERA 5A STAR to Runway 7L in Hong Kong. If you programme an initial cruise level of 31,000ft in the FMC, with a 4000ft step climb, it will take you through 35,000 to a final cruise level of 39,000ft. The route flown is a great circle taking you over Holland, northern Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Russia, northwest China approaching Hong Kong from the north. If you start early morning you can get her up to cruise then leave her in autopilot and do something useful for the rest of the day, like walking around the aircraft or gardening, before taking your seat at T/D to fly the descent into HK. Make sure you're back for the step climbs using the PROG timings on the FMC. For the VHHH-NZAA leg, which is a similar duration, I used Rfinder to programme the route. For some reason Flightaware doesn't seem to track the HK-Auckland route. The flight took 10hrs 18mins and I loaded 127,000kg fuel. The route worked perfectly with a OCEA2A SID from runway 7R and a BASI5A STAR to R/Way 23L into Auckland. The route takes you over the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Queensland, Lord Howe Island and on to Auckland. Other favourite routes:VHHH - PHNL using Cathay Pacific. PHNL(Honolulu)/RJAA(Narita)KSFO(San Francisco)/PHNLFAJS(Jo'Burg)/LFPG(Charles De Gaulle) I always fly with FS2Crew which provides a much more realistic environment and adds discipline to your flight preparation.I haven't flown much long haul on my FSXMD11 apart from a flight from OBBI(Bahrain)/FAJS. Incidentally, I find the FSX scenery much more realistic than FS2004. I haven't as yet invested in payware scenery packages other than freeware; although I do realise I may be missing out. I did not do any long haul flights in a while. Dont have the time to do them, I mean, what do you guys do when your plane is up in the air for like 10 hours straight? I like to fly 1 to 4 hour flights, most of the time reading or doing homework while the plane does all the hard work. Get to concentrate realy well, playing a game and doing homework is a great mix! :(

cyyz-kord, thats about as long a haul im willing to do.I enjoy simming but dont really want to sim for 10+ hours at a time.

I am due to fly home from EIDW to LHBP tomorrow for a WizzAir interview. But it is very likely that volcanic ash will disrupt my flight and therefore I will miss out the interview and that will be a disaster. In that case, I will get an FS2004 fighter, fly out from EIDW over to Iceland and start to attack that volcano. Not really a long haul but something really different:-) Arrrrghhhhhhhhhh!

I follow real world flights only,So i cannot wait for 777, then it would be , EGKK - Antigua, and down to one of my favourite countries in the world Tobago. However,On a recent BA virtual flight, i went to OBBI i think and it was one of the most beautiful approches i have ever done.Another is EGLL - KMIA going down the florida keys decending on IVAO with american ATC is great.!

I tend to watch tele, do homework, play on the xbox, go on the laptop things like that. But I don't always fly non stop. For you If you like 4 hour flights fly for 4 hours save your flight and carry on the next day. I tend to do thi an it's quite enjoyable!
