FSX Addon Airports

Featured Replies

It's only been within the last year I became interested in buying addon airports for FSX. I now own all of the FSDT U.S. airports, so I clearly enjoy what they offer. In researching other developers, I've come up with Imaginesim and Fly Tampa, but I know little of their quality in comparison to FSDT. Are they all similar, or anything that's top notch that I should be looking at? I don't want any fps killers, which explains my buying pattern thus far. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Generally you cant EVER go wrong with owning FlyTampa stuff, both in terms of quality and performance.I own Imaginesim KATL v.1 and TJSJ v.1. The reason I say v.1, is that they are redoing the FSX versions of their airports, but out the the two that I own, KATL is the only one that has been updated and I haven't updated to the new version yet. I can say however, that both KATL and TJSJ are both pretty good looking and perform very well as far as FPS go, plus if you want either of those airports there's not much else to choose from, except Blueprint Sim makes a TJSJ, that I think maybe free.

Sounds like Fly Tampa is a developer I should keep an eye on, but they don't have too many products for FSX at the moment. I guess in time more will be available.

I have Fly Tampa Boston Airport (KBOS) as well as their St. Marteen complete and Kai Tak airport sceneries. They are all excellent! I do take some fps hit with Boston and Kai Tak but I don't think it's much more than the FSDT airports. Avsim has some great reviews on the Fly Tampa products. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. If you like Carribean flying their Grenadines scenery is good too.

They seriously make the worst scenery ever. I bought there CYYZ and it was so bad that some of the buildings didn't even have Textures on them, they use A LOT of default stuff, Jetways don't move, AFCAD is inaccurate and the wort thing of all is the Frame Rates are so bad that on my i7 920 YYZ with the LDS 763 in the VC on Approach I was getting lucky if I hit 15 FPS. WHen I fly into there Default FSX I get around 40-45 FPS in the same plane. Waste of money, no support of fourm either.

I'm not as much of a debbie downer on their stuff. I have their KDAL for FSX and while it isn't on the same level of FlyTampa or FSDT, their version imho is much better than the default version of KDAL. While its true that they dont include moving jetways, they dont not use a lot of default stuff. Pretty much most of the terminals and building are custom made, which you can see in the screen shots on their site and in thier documentation.I can say that even though they dont have a support forum, they are very quick to respond to emails, and also very friendly to deal with.Bottom line with thier sceneries, they only cost $15, and if you dont mind static jetways or the lack of ground support vehicles, then they may be a viable option over the default scenery, especially if no one else makes the airport you are looking for. I can't vouch for the problems at CYYZ since I dont own it, but KDAL is fine and gets the same FPS or more than the default version, and looks a lot better, plus no one else makes KDAL,so it was either that or learn to model the airport myself.

I don't have CYYZ but haven't experienced any performance problems with their USA airports. Have you installed the latest update and AFCAN for CYYZ?Airport Updates: http://www.blueprintsimulations.com/BluePrint_Upgrades.htmlLatest AFCAN: http://www.blueprintsimulations.com/BluePrint_AFCADS.html

Great to hear! Just got back from vacation in FLL and during the weekend FSD had a 30% off sale going on. Picked up my first add-on airports, KFLL and KLAS. Can't wait to D/L later today and check them out. Also looking to get Fly Tampa St. Maarten. That said, I do most flying in PNW now and would love to try Starks and Darrington, but at $38/45 (dl/dvd), I'm a little hesitant. The two FSD airports totalled $43. Soon, I'm sure I'll have at least one of the PNW airports. Also got a new CH throttle quadrant that I just installed a few minutes ago. Awesome! But all these niceties do add up quickly! Oh yeah, also ordered Aerosofts Twin Otter while I was away. :( "Needed" a good bush twin to use with the quadrant. ( along with the Duke I already have.)
