June 3, 201016 yr I'm about to switch from FS9 to FSX and would like the warm, fuzzy feeling that may come from seeing some discussions or screenshots of the improvements in appearance of scenery and aircraft that FSX provides. I haven't been able to find such on the avsim forums. Can someone help me find them here or some other site? Thanks very much, MH

June 3, 201016 yr Thankyou for another FS9 versus FSX post....... NOT!Both sims are different things to different people....just install your FSX and make up your own mind. :(Hear hear.....At the end of the day you cannot compare them and people should stop doing so. FS9 is the most complete sim we have to date and possibly after the demises of ACES the best we will get. FSX is great for low level flying and any flying if you have a high end machine. Yes new addons, FSX addons, especially the heavy metal are starting to take over the FS9 addons, but I personally use both but in different ways.We would have killed for FS9 10 years ago and in my opinon FSX is the worst upgrade there has been since 1995. Reason is that ACEs are gone. If you enjoy flying FS9 and all the hundreds of add ons then stick with it. FSX will make it but not to the level of FS9 for a number of years if ever. Throw in the mix a number of third parties that are taking over where microsoft left off I honestly beleive that FSX will be cut short in its development. I think that in 10 years time we will look back at FS9 as being the most complete sim we had..... I hope not but I cannot see it being any other way considering we do not really know what is round the corner and our hobby has become fragmented....As said, no more FS9 v FSX it has been written countless times before. I personally will stick with FS9 for heavy iron and FSX for VFR. Yes I will slowly go over once the promised 737NG, A320X etc etc have been released for FSX. At this time I don't see the point. I fly IFR most of the time, 1m pixals mean nothing to me or real heavy metal pilots but do to alot.Lets fly guys and see you up there whether in FS9/FSX or even FS2002.CheersMiles :(
June 3, 201016 yr Moderator I'm about to switch from FS9 to FSX and would like the warm, fuzzy feeling that may come from seeing some discussions or screenshots of the improvements in appearance of scenery and aircraft that FSX provides. I haven't been able to find such on the avsim forums. Can someone help me find them here or some other site? Thanks very much, MHJust go to some addon developers sites that make products for both FSX and FS9 and compare the screen shots for both products. For example, Aerosoft markets some airports for both FSX and FS9 and usually they have screen shots of the said airport comparing both FS9 and FSX. Or go to the Ground Enviroment Pro website and compare the screen shots to that of Ground Environment X. A lot of developers make the same product whether is a scenery or aircraft for FSX and FS9 and usually offer screen shots showing the product being used in both sims. And like Ed said, just install FSX and make up your own mind. Just make sure you have enough CPU power and a decent video card or your probably going to struggle, especially if you try to set every slider to the max. You may want to follow this guide http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 when you install FSX to make sure you at least start off in the right direction. You'll probably get the best results if you have a dual/quad core running at least 3.6 ghz or better and a video card with at least 512 or more RAM.If I were you I wouldn't be scared of a lot of the negative stuff you read about FSX. I run it on the rig in my system and can fly it pretty close to having most settings at or near max and my rig would be considered old by todays standards. That being said, I primarly fly airliners in FSX, like I did in FS9, and I have no problems with performance. As Miles said in the post above me, if your running a slower CPU you may need to sitck to low and slow, but if you have the juice you can use it for just about everything.Good luck. June 3, 201016 yr Thankyou for another FS9 versus FSX post....... NOT!Both sims are different things to different people....just install your FSX and make up your own mind. :(Perfectly and accurately expressed Ed. I find it somewhat disturbing that someone may get a warm and fuzzy feeling from bludgeoning a dead horse . . . but to each, his own. BTW, no MH, I am not condemning you for asking, because your question was probably fueled by your legitimate desire to see the difference between the two SIMS. I hope you find what suits your tastes the best. For Gus: You have a clever talent for brevity and levity. :( Regards to all,Mel
June 3, 201016 yr Author Thanks cmpbellsjc! You are the only responder who read my post carefully. I didn't want to start a new discussion. I realize very well how long the FS2004 vs FSX issue has been going on. I wanted to find previously existing screenshots and discussions, primarily the screenshots simply to see the differences. You provided what I asked for, instead of the sarcastic BS others evidently thought was worth their time to post. The only point they made was that they're unkind, impatient, and seem to love being heard even if they have nothing constructive to offer or can only muster up a cutesy hamster wheel. Would they kick a kid on crutches?Today I placed an order for a very capable gaming system that I'm confident will run FSX to my complete satisfaction. I'll look at the websites you mentioned. May you receive from others the same respectful consideration you gave to me.Thanks, MH
June 3, 201016 yr Moderator No problem Mudhen and good luck with your install and new computer. Keep your eyes open for free FSX versions of FS9 sceneries you may have purchased. If you bought any airports from FSDreamteam you are entitled to get the FSX version for free. A lot of other developers also are offering the FSX versions for free or at a discount if you bought the FS9 versions.I forgot to mention besides the link I provided, to also look in the FSX forum for some posts that are pinned, http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=281538 regarding some other FSX tweaks that a lot of users are having a lot of success with.Regards. I divide my time between FSX and FS9 and fly FSX mainly for scenery, and FS9 mainly for the smoothness in which it handles AI plus the huge amount of AI traffic available for it. Aircraft are good in both versions of MSFS. FS9 is still a very satisfying sim for me in spite of flying FSX and I am glad I held onto it.Regards,John
June 3, 201016 yr Hi, for me personally the major FSX attractions are 1. FSX only addons and 2. weather engine. I feel that FSX depicts weather better...starting with a much better handle on visibility. But then I know not everyone would agree with me. Heavily outfitted with the right addons FSX can look downright fantastic but until I don't have to give up too much performance for that I'm perfectly happy with 9. Can't a person ask a simple, non-prejudicial question without being jumped on all over the place? What was his crime? Mentioning FSX and FS9 in the same breath? Ridiculous.
June 3, 201016 yr In what way was cmpbellsjc disrespectful? He answered the question clearly and with good information.
