Evaluating FSX Improvements Over FS2004?

Featured Replies

Just an idle thought:if you are looking for the "improvements in appearance of scenery and aircraft that FSX provides."you might be better served asking in the FSX Forum!
I agree and I am gonna move this thread over there....and please be polite everyone!

I had some good comparisons for more rural airports (but I seem to have lost them). IMHO that's where the difference is most noticeable.I fly out of KDLH, where I work irl, and FS9 compared to FSX is a HUGE difference in this area. The landclass, the rivers/roads, lakes, the default airport design is TOTALLY different and of course much more realistic in FSX. The texture resolution in FSX even at default 1m is WAAAY better than FS9. Once you get up past oh 10,000 ft or so the difference isn't too apparent vs FS9's 4.8m resolution. But keep in mind FSX can display 7cm textures - mainly 3rd party sceneries have this. Some other things that also stand out are cars on the road, boats, and default ai airport traffic. Not ai like airplanes but ai like ground vehicles, service trucks, fuel trucks whatever..Then you factor in payware for FSX... and I'm sold!I couldn't live without my Duke, Flight1 Mustang, Lotus L39!! Granted a few of my favorites are missing : Dreamfleet Baron and A36, and twin cessna 310My rig is a lot slower than users still on FS9 today and I enjoy the heck outa FSX!!p.s. just wanted to post a quick pic of the Lotus L39 Albatros landing lights (effects only available for FSX) - you won't find ll's like this in FS9...edit again lol: I just found those comparison shots... they were at KDLH with the FS9 great Dreamfleet C310 and FSX's RealAir Duke... I will edit them to jpg and make a post in SS forum later.... OK link is uphttp://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=286859L39ll-1.jpg

I'm about to switch from FS9 to FSX and would like the warm, fuzzy feeling that may come from seeing some discussions or screenshots of the improvements in appearance of scenery and aircraft that FSX provides. I haven't been able to find such on the avsim forums. Can someone help me find them here or some other site? Thanks very much, MH
Maybe you can find some screenshots for comparison here:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=147The better alternative would be to simply try FSX and see which FS you like better or you can even decide to use both.

Yup, that can sound a little provocative posted in the FS9 forum. Thanks to 'Geofa' for moving the thread.

Why do you suppose porting FS9 designed aircraft over to FSX is such a problem? Microsoft had nothing to gain by making it unnecessarily difficult for some designs. They were never in the market for aircraft addons. Visibility issues, gauges problems, xml headaches, etc. Nothing at all to do with the big shift in scenery details.RayM

Most FSX screens are still VFR's. No heavy metal stuff, like FSDT KJFK fully packed with AI and the planes such as PMDG,
