Possible TSS soundpack for PMDG J41...

Featured Replies

Hey guys, a fellow and me discussed a little bit on having a sound pack made for the J41... He sugested that we try TSS, so I contacted them and if they aprove we may have a real nice music going on herejust thought i'd let you knowOH! and I guess thety would have to contact pmdg for rights, etc so this may be a very long process I'l keep ya updated!!Steve

Well, I'm really not a fan of TSS. They compromise too much for my taste. I think this would be a wasted effort frankly, as the PMDG soundset is very solid.

I'm not sure what more you could want from a sound package? The PMDG sounds were recorded in the real airplane, and sounds exactly like the way it does in real life. To be perfectly honest, I've never seen/heard a more realistic addon in the history of FS.

Example - the MD-11 original packge sound is very nice indeed. But this did not stop me to try the 3 different TSS sound sets and it turned out that the PW set is just great. Now I fly only the MD-11 with the PW engines. You guys should hear the spool up of the turbines.....On the J41 side I am sure TSS will have something to come up with as well.In the original Jetstream package I personally do not like the transition from spool up to running engines sound. As well the reverse and out of reverse transition can be more convinsing.I look forward for the TSS J41 release!

I hear ya'll I love the sounds too, its just that the reversers are not real, you know that turboprop noise when they go into reverser mode its that shrill wooonnng noise, id just like to have that, as you guys have said, its already amazing I was just sugesting it.Steve

Thing is, we don't feel movement in the desktop sim, so other things have to compensate for that, and one way to do that is to go slightly overboard with sounds that would be accompanied by feeling acceleration forces on your body, so even if the sound in an FS add-on is exactly what you'd hear sat in the P1 seat, it doesn't necessarily add to the feeling of being there. I think the TSS sounds usually manage to pull that sort of thing off.Al

Guys,The J41 sounds were recorded from the real airplane during our field trip to photograph and record one - Robert flew these for thousands of hours as a line pilot and signed off on the sounds, as did several current pilots on the aircraft. The idea that there's something wrong with them just isn't accurate. There may be problems using a third party set anyway, we did some custom things trying to get the startup and shutdown and such correct - those sounds get played through our custom sound gauge, not through the FSX sound system.

sounds are great! Tabs can you comment on my other thread "Engine Cut-off sounds". If it is a known problem I will live with it. If it is something I am doing/have done wrong then I would like to fix it. Cheers!!

Thanks I really like TSS sound sets and I'd love one for the J-41.David

Whilst I agree that the Jetstream 4100 doesn't really need a sound upgrade, I can tell you that the TSS CFM-56 sound package for the Project Airbus A318 makes a MASSIVE difference to the quality and believability of the sounds (particularly the engines). The standard Airbus engine sounds in FSX (and probably all other default jets) lack "punch", and are essentially rubbish. The TSS CFM-56 sound pack makes the PA A318 sound like a real Airbus!

Just my $.02. I love the free TSS C172 sounds, and would buy them for other default aircraft most likely, but not needed for the PMDG hangar in my opinion. I bought two sets and after trying them for the Queen as well as the Md-11 (TSS-280 747-400 & TSS-245 MD-11) I reverted back and prefer PMDG's. TSS does do a great job, but so does PMDG at recording the actual sounds from the actual aircraft. The fly by effect was neat on the TSS package but didn't quite fit when slewing around the AC :(

There's only one thing I found that misses- IRL there is a whistling sound when going from high RPM to ground idle and the other way around. Everything else sounds just perfect, just look at all those videos of real Jetstreams. PMDG really did an excellent job here, I can't see how this could be improved much.
