MD-11 Brakes

Featured Replies

Hey all, it's been awhile since I have flown anything in FS due to seeding season then spraying on the farm. However now we're in kind of a lull and I've dusted off FSX. As per usual, when I get back into it I go for a few rounds with my Queen before I fly anything else, but today I dragged my MD-11 out of storage.I flew from VHHH to PANC, all went fine except for a problem I had a few months ago that I had forgotten about, at the beginning of the flight when I taxi to the runway for takeoff, the brakes work normal, I just use the #2 (I think, trigger button anyway) on my joystick. Autobrakes are already at T.O. since I do that before I even start moving. Now for landing I used Medium autobrake and the brakes worked fine, but I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong after that since if I press my brake button, either on the joystick or the period button on the keyboard the brakes just stay on. Even if move the autobrake selector to off. On the 744 as soon as I touch the brake button the autobrakes go to "disarm".So as an experiment while the plane was still rolling I engaged the parking brake then disengaged it right away (probably not SOP... :( ) and that stopped the autobraking, but after that during taxi to the ramp I had no brakes at all.Has anyone else experienced this? It's alarming coming up to a corner or parking spot and having no brakes! Thanks!Jeff Calder

Are you by chance using the Saitek rudder pedals? If so that is the problem, i had the same issue with mine though i never figured it out.Brandon Elam

Touching the brakes during autobrake operation is supposed to disarm them, but loosing braking after one application of brakes is odd. Does the "." default key for brakes work? Make sure everything is as it should be with your FSUIPC.

Yep this happened too me once and to to stop during taxi require parking brake use :(Sorry I don't have a solution as it went away after that one flight but I ca confirm this issue.

Checked everything in FSUIPC and all is normal in there, the "." button does not work either. Very strange, brakes work fine in the 744 and 748 along with the LDS 763.Oh well, if I figure something out I'll post it here.Jeff Calder

A noob question - isn't that possible because of some brake/hydraulic system failure? Or you have disabled them?Have been flyin MD11 rather long - never had such issue.br,namejs

When it happened to me I did have random failures on and it is something I checked but it wasn't caused from a failure, just some odd bug.

I had a similar experience with my braking on the MD11 and found the following cure worked for meSet the Autobrakes for landing .Allow the aircraft to land and come to a complete standstill. Do not touch your brakes on the joystick during rollout. When the aircraft is stationery wait a few seconds the brake warning indicator at the bottom left of the screen will go off ,you can then accelerate off the runway braking normally with your joystick. The trick is not to touch the joystick brakes during rollout.Hope this helps

Hi guys, well I have been having this problem recently as well. After touch-down, my auto-brakes completely cut off and I have to use manual braking which work ok. It's just the auto-brakes that fail after landing and I don't have any failures set. Too add to it, I don't touch the brakes on either my joystick nor keyboard until auto-brakes cut off then I have to.No one got any solutions yet?Stephen

Hi Stephen, I use to have the same problem and think I posted my fix in another brake post somewhere around here, but one thing I would try is to make sure your not flying a "Saved Default" flight. They can get corrupt and I have had several things happen including no working lights, and no brakes as you mentioned. Once I deleted the saved default all was fine. However, I never had a problem with Loading a saved flight, just with saved defaults.I had a different brake issue that I posted my resolution to and due to my tired brain can't remember the fix at the moment. That case though was 0 brakes, during Taxi, landing,,, anytime.

Hi Dan,Well I load the FSCrew flight from the PMDG menu, panel state menu. Do you think that is what is maybe causing the problem?Stephen

No, I highly doubt it anyway. I don't have much time at the moment and heading out but I'll look for my other post later. Perhaps it will shed some light on it.

Have you tried deleting your FSUIPC.INI file?
