July 3, 201015 yr Hi there fellow simmersI'm looking for a good classic airliner to fly old-school in FSX. By classic I mean without a FMS, but with an INS instead preferably.I got me the CS727 yesterday and it looks sick, but it has no INS and I've heard the systems are still faulty. Any suggestions please?Well, if there's a superb one for FS9 that might be an option too. Is the F1 727 any good? Is the Delco Carousel INS realistic and functional installed in the F1 727?Thanks :(
July 3, 201015 yr I don't think any FSX ones have an INS.However, for FS9 I used Richard Probst's B737 panel with the INS freeware gaugeB737 for FS9http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=141045IV-A INS gaugehttp://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=91432 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 3, 201015 yr Author Thanks Ryan, i'll give it a go. So those INS gauges won't work in FSX? July 3, 201015 yr The best pre-FMS airliner for FSX is probably the (Aerosoft) SimCheck A300-B4.It was recently reviewed right here on Avsim, where it got a shiny award, and deservedly so. It's right up to the wire as far as not having an FMS is concerned, since it does have an N1 computer and the glareshield autopilot is far more like a modern aircraft than most INS-equipped aircraft, which does in fact make for a fairly easy transition backwards to 'old school' navigation for anyone used to those fully automated Boeings we are familiar with these days. A very realistic add-on and well worth checking out.The CLS B747-200/300 isn't too bad either if you want an INS-equipped Heavy. It is a port from FS9 and not a full-on FSX model, although it does work okay. CLS come in for a bit of stick sometimes for making 'lite' stuff, but their steam-driven Jumbo is really rather good. And it does come with the option to have either an INS or an FMC cockpit, albeit a rather 'lite' FMC, but of course that is not a problem if you wanted an FMC-driven one too and happen to have the ISG gauges, so it's a very flexible choice for even hardcore types in spite of its 'lite' leanings. The fact that it works in FS9 and FSX and has both INS and FMC variants, plus two variants of the 747, makes it probably one of the best value add-ons you can get for FS.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 3, 201015 yr So those INS gauges won't work in FSX?Not sure - haven't ever tried them in X | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

July 3, 201015 yr Concorde-X is amazing, but its not a normal jetliner thats very useful for a whole host of routes, its mainly for the cross atlantic route between the US east coast and Europe. It does have an IRS based navigation system tho, and it has a very low degree of automation as well

The Classic uses a ONS (Omni Navigation System) Its a great bird and is lite on the FPS with as good performance as any of the FSX default aircraft. I have it and love it. July 3, 201015 yr Author Does it include an INS? if it does, did they develop it themselves? Thanks for the suggestion. Check out the CoolSky MD-80 Classic (not the pro). July 5, 201015 yr I believe the SkySim DC-9 models have one. I'm not sure if the HJG 727s and 707s have INSs, though. "It goes without saying that when survival is threatened, struggles erupt between peoples, and unfortunate wars between nations result." -HIDEKI TOJO
July 5, 201015 yr If the SkySim DC-9 has a INS, then it's news to me, because mine doesn't have one.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 5, 201015 yr Sky Simulations DC-9 is one of the best all round packages for FSX. Definitely pre-FMS, but still with some good auto pilot help.http://www.skysimulations.com/Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
