Can I use an Applemac?

Featured Replies

I use an iMac (applemac) to use FS. I am a photographer by trade, and it's just what I need to get the job done. I will gladly get a computer that runs Windows when I can. I really don't have a problem with Mac for the time being. I have the older 24" model, and although it runs alright on frames, it looks pretty ugly. I forget what graphics card came stock with my computer, and I'm a touch too lazy to look right now, but my AA filter is HORRIBLE. I'm sure Ryan can ring in on this - but when you have serious aliasing going on, it makes the sim look horrible, and I just cant check the AA box, because when I do, the sim drops to 7 frames. I'm really looking forward to the NGX, so I think I'll go ahead and upgrade to a Windows rig in the next few months. Cheers

Have you tried NHancer (if you have a NVidia graphics card)? Ryan posted a link on another website somewhere about it, I can't find it at the moment. I think it was Tom's Hardware? That solved the problem for me with the NVidia card in my Mac.If it is NHancer you need (a free program), Ryan might be able to enlighten you more than me. I think go into it, and set an application profile for FS, and tell it to override the settings in FS as far as AA etc. go.Cheers,Rudy

The older iMacs had either the ATI x1600, Nvidia 7300GT, or the Integrated Intel GMA chipsets. If it's the Intel chip, you're totally screwed on getting any AA or AF probably.Run this and post back what it says you have Blake:http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Please stop calling it applemac. There is no such thing as an applemac. It's an Apple or a Mac.

Google says there is Applemac, it appears in search engine, so there must be a lot of people calling it that way ;)

Search "Applemac" on Google; you get replacement words: "Apple Mac". PS. Sorry Netherlands :( I was with you guys to the end.

Hey Ryan,The site you provided didn't make too much sense. Was it supposed to run a script to inspect my system specs? Instead I have taken a screenshot of my graphics specs.Do my specs mean I'll always be dealing with marching ants? Thanks again!

Blake,Didn't realize you were in OSX - that utility I linked is a Windows program. Anyway, you have an ATI Radeon 2600 Pro 256MB. The amount of RAM on the card is pretty low for FSX, I think 512MB is kind of a minimum on video memory to run it at decent settings.

Actually to be honest:
Your search - kajlksdjflksdj - did not match any documents.
But funny nonetheless.

Apparently google fixed that one. So sad.

There is also nothing I can do about AA and AF right?I know I need a new rig, I was just wondering with my current specs. Thanks Ryan.EDIT:Do you think I'd be better off just running FS9 on the iMac, and FSX on the new i7 rig?

Actually a 2600 Pro should be able to handle 4X multisample and 16X AF I'd think... I'd go and download the latest actual Catalyst driver from ATI rather than using whatever version Apple gives you with the Bootcamp driver set.
