July 17, 201015 yr I used to love Multiplayer on FSX...but I cant use it anymore...since Gamespy has alot of errors when logging in, so i saw that VATSIM was a online ATC virtual world for FSX...but im still new at FSX. Im good with landing with the default ATC...but i might get really confused when i try VATSIM.Is there anything that could help me train for online ATC chatter? And is VATSIM, FPS friendly? I have 5 FPS on my Windows 7 and im going to buy FSX (Disc 1 got scratched up) and put it on my Windows XP.Also, what about virtual airlines? Like what exactally would i do? Just fly a certain airline??

July 17, 201015 yr If you go to the VATSIM website, which is here: http://www.vatsim.net/ you will find a lot of tutorial and explanatory articles, which cover getting it all set up. Then you can simply join a session and sit on the ground listening to the radio chatter if you like, to get familiar with it all. Everyone on VATSIM is well aware that new people can be a little apprehensive, and so long as you make people aware that you are new to it, then they will make allowances, so there is no need to worry about it.Just remember that it is supposed to be fun, so nobody is going to shout at you if you get a radio message wrong. Professionalism is appreciated, but so long as you do the best you can, then there is nothing to worry about. If you are at all concerned with not knowing about ATC procedures, you could tune in to some online and listen, which is a good way to learn how it all works. If you want to get really knowledgeable about ATC, then you could also try out Air Traffic Control Simulator 2, which can be found here: http://www.atcsimulator.com/Or even a freebie ATC simulator, which you can find here: http://www.atc-sim.com/Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 17, 201015 yr *sigh* Yes. When i put Windows 7 on my Vista Computer...It went from 30 FPS (No autogen/advanced animations/traffic/etc.) to 5 FPS and 1 FPS on runways. 5 FPS?
July 17, 201015 yr My FPS went up when I changed from Vista to Windows 7, so I guess it varies with what your hardware is. I'd revert back if I were you, 5 FPS isn't flyable regardless IMO.Anyway, generally speaking about Vatsim and FPS: It depends. If you used to fly with AI ("fake" computer guided planes), then your FPS will go up. There's usually a bit less traffic on VATSIM than with AI set to 100%. If you're used to flying all alone, your FPS will go down with VATSIM. Every other player within a 40nm or so radius of you is shown with an AI model. So it all depends on traffic. Load up on KLAS Los Angeles during a flyin-event, you'll see some bad FPS, fly in bush country with two or three other planes around you you'll see good FPS. Simply adjust your settings beforehand and do some research to find out if there's lots of traffic there.
July 17, 201015 yr I don't know if I'm apprehensive or just lazy. I guess I'll try it whenever I get bored with canned ATC.

When i put Windows 7 on my Vista Computer...It went from 30 FPS (No autogen/advanced animations/traffic/etc.) to 5 FPS and 1 FPS on runways.Something's wrong with the install or your drivers then... Did you install over top of Vista? If so, I'd flush it and start completely clean. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
July 18, 201015 yr If your nervous about trying Vatsim, your not alone cause we've all been there and were just like you. Get yourselve set up and look on Vatspy if you don't have it get it in cause it will show all the controllers who are on and all pilots . Pick a busy airport -park yourselve at a gate -ramp or what ever -go to spot view and just look around and listen to what is going on and watch every one taxi -land- take off, and get the drift of the lingo till you confortable to give it a shot. The main thing is never hook up to Vatsim parked on the runway cause that's a real sure way of getting yourselve in major trouble right off the get ko.You can fly around without being in a virtual airline club but dream up a call sign cause that you need for sure and you should have the plates of the air ports youre gonna fly in and out of. He might say departing runway 34 off the Stamp 1 departure and you won't know the procedures for that departure. If you go to liveatc.net you can listen to real world traffic at an airport of your choice to learn the lingo. Every thing he tells you you are going to have to repeat it back, so get a pen handy and write down every thing he says Louis Massicotte Caroline Alberta
