Perhaps one of the weirdest things in FSX and hardware...

I probably have one of the worst computers for FSX in the Avsim forums, apart for my video card, a XFX 260GTX. However, I have all my sliders to the maximum, and I still run at a smooth 30 FPS all the time. I don't have any tweaks installed or anything like that. Anyone know an explanation? Here are my PC specsAMD X2 3800+ @2GHz (First dual core AMD ever made), XFX GTX260, Acer 750W power supply, 2GB of RAM (DDR2), 2 hard drives, one 160 Gb at 3840 RPM and another one with 320 Gb at 7200 RPM. My motherboard is a stock lenovo one, and unfortunately they don't give information at all about it...So could it be that my video card handles a bit of the CPU with CUDA? I'm pretty sure FSX doesn't support CUDA though, so I have really no idea what it is that makes my sim run so smooth...

What planes do you fly?All sliders to the right including traffic?

You may have a CPU that's naturally awesome. They're all different and some come better than others. My only solution is ship it to me and I'll send you my computer in return and then I can give you a more thorough answer :(

I usually fly in the A2A Cub when I do bush flying, or the LDS 767 when flying airlines. Traffic is all the way to the right, although I use WOAI packages and FSX default GA traffic (I converted the FS9 traffic file to FSX)Simmer9304, my CPU was built a year before FSX came out... I'm pretty sure that even if it were amazing, it can't be THAT good :D

I can only say congrats, and enjoy because that's awesome :)

Well, how about some really awesome screenshots with the FPS counter showing? Especially at some hubs? Would be nice to know!

I for one believe in miracles, answers to prayer, Divine intervention in the affairs of men, if, when and where God, and God alone, may wish. However I find it impossibly difficult to believe that you have such a miraculous computer that, if what you say about it is true, would be the near supernatural equivalent of the parting of the Red Sea. Things electronic in the scientific world just don't work that way. All sliders to the right in FSX at a smooth 30 FPS in a Level D 767 with 100% WOAI traffic all the time with a 5 year old 2 ghz AMD based computer? I don't intend to be unkind, but no, such an account can not be entirely and reliably accurate, plain and simple. False.Stephen

Stephen, Don't hold back now. Tell us how you really feel. :(

Yes, do that and I'll believe you.. on my i7@4GHz, GTX285, 6GB RAM, Velociraptor, .... I don't get 30 FPS all the time.

I agree with Stephen.Even at stock FSX SP2 in NYC with sliders to the right, IMPOSSIBLE.

Well to split hairs, the OP is wrong about the AMD 3800+ X2 being the "first dual core AMD ever made". Seems that info too is on par with the other questionable observations made. The 3800+ X2 was a follow-on released somewhat later; it's not in this list of the original Athalon 64 X2 release: http://www.anandtech.com/show/1665/4.

I'm tempted to cut Agaguk a bit of credibility here. All we ever hear about in these forums are from those with performance problems. (Good news doesn't sell newspapers!)My guess is that there are many simmers quite happy with their older 'puters but they likely don't post about it.In my own case, I'm running FS9 triple monitors/unified views, on a 6 year old machine and very happy with it- no plans for an upgrade.(In fact the CPU/GPU are really 7 year old technology. Would you buy a car in its first year of production?)I would be willing to bet there are many simmers getting good results from less than state of the art hardware.Better I think, to stay away from "bleeding edge technology"."Use it up, wear it out-When it's done, throw it out."Alex Reid

very well put Alex
