July 24, 201015 yr Hi,I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but I'll ask anyway....Which drive imaging/backup software would you guys recommend? I'm searching for something that will make an image of my whole FS9 computer to an external 1Tb drive (USB), and then restore the whole thing to another computer with identical hardware. If it is possible directly from computer to computer over the network, so much better. - It can't be Acronis, since I cannot boot it from a CD, no matter what I try. - It will work over network (I have three computers)Thank you in advanceRegards,Jure
July 24, 201015 yr Even with identical hardware, you could possibly have to reactivate some software, especially Windows. Still, Nero has a pretty Robust imaging utility in it, along with a back up utility. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
July 24, 201015 yr i use Syncback pro. It's the best for mirroring/backup. I don't like backup software because most make a .img or .iso of your files. With Syncback, it just makes a duplicate of whatever you want to back up. This way i can access a mirror version of the files without mounting an .iso.anyways, i've been using Syncback for a few years now, and it has always performed well (it's also very fast). I backup my FS9 to a western digitial mirror edition external harddrive 1TB (this way, even the backup has its own backup...lol)It only takes me 30min or so to mirror my FS9 to another PC...zero problems.-feng

Maybe you cd wasn't burned properly.I am using Acronis for several years now (updated to the latest version a few months ago) and I have never had any issues with it.And it does work over a network....In fact, it does exactly what it says it does. It makes an EXACT copy of your harddrive. In the latest version you can even recover a complete windows 7 harddrive, including the activation.... And it does so for most (not all) programs and add on's.If you have a copy of Acronis... Install it from scratch and create a bootable medium. Go into your bios and make sure that you can boot from your CD/DVD-rom.It should work...Luc BrusselmansBelgiumJure,If you can't start Acronis by means of a bootdisk, there has to be something wrong.I am using Acronis for years (upgraded to the l
July 24, 201015 yr I use O and O - love it.Not sure it will do what you want but you can always inquire at their site.http://www.acronis.com/promo/Backup/index....CFQ5vswodUm2QYQGood Luck.
July 24, 201015 yr I'm not a big flag waver for them by any means, but I'll only trust Acronis as my imaging software. I've done a lot of 'wipes and restores' with it and it's the only package, freeware or payware, that has never let me down. If there's some reason you can't restore from your CD, that's either a CD/DVD issue or a windows licensing lockout. If it's the latter, reinstall windows, reinstall ACRONIS and then restore your full image from there.I'm now using Home 2010 with their plus pack, which purports to be able to restore your windows drive to dissimilar hardware, but I've found that some of my addons seem to disregard that "guarantee" so keep your license codes handy -- you may still need 3 or 4 of them. July 25, 201015 yr Author Looks like there is something wrong with my DVD drive, since Acronis won't boot. I tried re-installing, making a bootable CD and so forth - all to no avail. But Acronis seems to be good, as you all say....Syncback pro sounds interesting, too, because it does exactly what I need - an exact copy of my FS9. It's not so much for running it (yeah, Wideview comes to mind) as it is for backup purposes. I cringe at the thought of needing to reinstall everything...Time to get busy...Thanks for the tips and advice, much appreciated! :(Regards,Jure

Has always booted from the CD and has saved my butt many a time. I'm not sure about it's network functionality, though. I keep backups on both an internal hard drive and an external 1TB USB drive.gwillmot
July 25, 201015 yr For Win XP3 I use Acronis Migrate Easy. I set it for an As IS copy and the volume serial numbers (frequently a part of copy protection schemes) have been preserved. It must be run from the CD in its non-Windows environment. I also have their Disk Director 10.1 on it. Both have been successful for exact drive cloning (ME) and partition editing between my SATA drives. I don't know if Migrate Easy 7.1 supports USB drives but also drive size was limited as I recall. Acronis released in mid June their Disk Director 11 "HOME" version. I got it so if I updated to Win 7 I'd have a utility. That has a built in drive clone utility but running from the rescue disk it has not created a bootable clone for me. It moved the partitions slightly but if I use a Windows Emergency Boot floppy it will get the clone booted. One tech support person suggested I run DD11 from within Windows. I lost my assigned drive letters and volume serial numbers since both drives had been made hot within Win. I got them back using the Win Recovery Console, DD10.1, and Win Drive Mgt. It was messy due to a Win "feature" that is safety deal that even in Win Safe Mode you can not reassign a drive letter with a paging file on it.I have migrated my way through tech support and am now working with higher level types to resolve these version 11 issues.I do not use their True Image utility.
July 25, 201015 yr So many people recommend til the cows come home but the only way you'll know if your software works is to intentionally hose your system and then try and recover it from the backup. It's great the software has a nice interface and warm fuzzy backup process but how do you know if it will rescue the way you want?
