How to set AA in FS9 and FSX for Nvidia's 2xx.xx drivers (now with working Transparency AA!)

Featured Replies

Hi RyanThanks for this post. I did exactly as per your instruction and the results are great! My NVidia 280GTX extreme card was a great buy. I didn't notice any frame hits after the settings in FSX or FS9 , so for me it worked out well.Well Done!

Hi Again Ryan,I applied the vsync changes to windowed mode and you were correct a good 30% reduction in FPS but no tearing. I am fine with this and I will just hot key between windowed and full screen where it really humms with these settings,Thanks Much.Joe

i ask becuase i cant override the defualt aa in #FSX.Like u say above ^^
Why can't you override the default AA? Uncheck the box and set the AA mode to OVERRIDE instead of ENHANCE in Nvidia Inspector. (basically set it just like the instructions for FS9 show)

I cannot DL the inspector tool anywhere, "Oops! Google Chrome could not find download.orbmu2k.de" it does not work with any browser, is there somewhere else I could get it.

Same here, adding the Vsync options to the fsx.cfg did the trick. Thanks Batting%20Eyelashes.gif

Hey guys...i can't get anisotropic filtering to work on my fs9 :(did it exactly as its explained here, but doesn't work...My graphics card is a gx470 with driver version 258.96..

Hey all,I've got these settings working GREAT as advertised - but...When I start Squawkbox 4 I lose all AA effects. Jaggies come back. If I exit SB4 I get great AA again. Should I include the SB4 .exe in the NVidia/NVidia Inspector profile? This didn't happen with NHancer... :(Thanks!Robert

I have the GTX460 and only the 258.96 drivers work with it (Officially). The shimmering on FS9 is VERY annoying. With my old GTS250 and NHancer I had next to no shimmer at all even with MIPMAP set to 8 inside the sim.FSX on the other hand looks great.....

Yes, thank you very much for this guide to AA settings in FSX (which always caused me a lot of trouble). Best regards,Ø. Jensen

I've been fighting the Squawkbox and loosing AA on FSX for a few hours now. I've think I've finally figured it out. Instead of setting the AA - Mode to AA_MODE_SELECTOR_ENHANCE, try setting it to AA_MODE_SELECTOR_OVERRIDE. Don't forget to turn off the AA checkbox in FSX. This seems to work for me. The only thing I can see is a slight loss of vsync but it's not nearly as bad as having no vsync at all. I have vsync set using the nvidia inspector to VSYNCMODE_FORCEDON.-Jason

Hey Ryan,I followed your instructions, which is very nice, and works quite well, expect this thing which I notice with some addon scenerys. The scenery is tearing (?). I'm not sure about the right word for it. Very annoying, here is a picture about it. I've noticed that others have it as well. But some in FSX and I have it with FS9.140yoog.jpg

I have an issues and im not exactly sure what setting would cause it. Ill try my best to describe it... I get fairly high FPS when in most areas in FSX. Between 60 and 120FPS. When i try and move the view (VC or Spot View) then FPS will slow down to about 10-20FPS for a split second, then rebound back up to normal. When the slows down, i obviously get some stuttering. What settings should i be looking at for these sudden drops? Can this be tweaked to get rid of the sudden drops? This applies to any plane I fly...Thanks!!!

Well HOT DAMN! That worked! I have very good AA with SB4 running now. As a matter of fact AA_MODE_SELECTOR_OVERRIDE and AA unchecked in FSX seems to work better! I've gained back the few frames I've lost using AA_MODE_SELECTOR_ENHANCE and AA checked. This is awesome... Thinking that maybe this override setting should be included in the original post as an addendum for SB4 users. Maybe placebo but it seems that even the AA TRANSPARENCY setting is working better this way as well. Thanks Jason...-Robert

I really don't see how this could be related to graphics card settings - I've never seen anything even remotely like that, it almost looks like the scenery itself is screwed up/positioned wrong. You're telling me you can revert to not using the card settings I outlined here and this goes away?

I've updated the main post with the info for stuff like SB4 and other "overlay" apps.

What I'm doing here doesn't even touch AF - that gets set beforehand using the Nvidia driver control panel itself.
