Horizon or Just flight

Featured Replies

I have just replaced my computer, the spec is in my sig. I already have Just Flights VFR real scenery volumes one and four, these cover Northern and South East England. I have yet to install them on my new computer.I am considering addin volumes two and three. My question is should I stick with the Just Flight software or bite the bullet and change to Horizon VFR generation X?Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I've used both in different computers.Horizon should be (advertised) better but I found it quite cartoonish when looking at screenshots especially with the mixes of strong colors.. There are add-ons fro complementing the 3dobjects (free at earthsimulation)JustFlight is greenish and less contrasted but I made very nices screenshots with-it. When flying we (at least I) are not looking to the sceneries the same way than after flight with screenshots and vids.RV

I've got the VFR real scenery and have been a little disappointed. I wish I had bought the Horizon one and most people I have talked to or discussed with on forums seem to agree.IAN

Horizon one is by far better. Generally speaking it runs better and looks more realistic. It is also the one which is primarily the default compatibility choice with Treescapes (although you can make the Just Flight stuff work with that Treescape stuff too).Al

Looks as though Horizon is probably the one I will go for. I have heared that with horizon that you do not see the map when using the GPS, is this true? can someone try it please?

Unfortunately the Horizon scenery won't allow the default GPS map to work as it should, so the terrain becomes just a uniform light blue. This has been the subject of endless complaints but for some reason Horizon have been unable to fix the problem.A tip to overcome the saturated colours of the Horizon scenery is to use the free HDR plug-in and reduce saturation in the enbseries.ini file. Another tip that helps the sharpness of the scenery is to zoom out the view (both inside the VC or outside the plane in spot view) to about 0.5. These settings are most conveniently adjusted with EZDOK payware.Cheers,Noel.

Thanks for that info Noel. Does that make the GPS unusable? or will it still show airports, air speed, distance to destination etc, will it still link in to the autopilot?

It's just the terrain that doesn't show in the GPS. The rest of it works OK.The Horizon stuff also goes good with the UK2000 VFR airports - well woth getting.

Playhorizon as they are now known, are developing the whole of Scotland at 60cmpp. They have released the Western Isles but seem to be taking forever to release the other volumes. Eastern Isles is now in the beta stage but it's going to be a long time before the whole of Scotland is complete. I would love to have England and Wales at this Resolution, too, one day.

I find the latest VFR Scotland release schedule very difficult to believe, considering that it has taken them around eleven months to get The Orkneys & Shetland Isles anywhere near store shelves. Are we really expected to believe that they will release the final three volumes by March 2011? :(

Absolutely no way. They keep changing the goal posts, I really do believe that there is only 1 person actually working on the Scotland series. And he is off sick most of the time, or on holiday.
