August 21, 201015 yr What is considered to be the best DC-3 out there? I was looking at the MAAM version but was wondering if there is any other version that is worth noting. Preferably, I'd like something with both accurate flight dynamics and a good looking cockpit with a VC. It doesn't have to be payware, just something that works well and looks good....isn't that what we all want? Please advise and thanks!Mark

August 21, 201015 yr There must be a freeware DC-3 with nearly the same quality as the MAAM. I didn't test it but I read a review. Maybe this is something for you...Look for Charles Owen on Flightsim. Unfortunately the file isn't available on Avsim. The 2D-panel isn't the best, but the VC should be nice...Try it and keep us posted... :(
August 21, 201015 yr Hello,Flightsim.com FS2004 (ACOF) - FS2004 ProplinersFS2004 Douglas DC-3C[ Download | View ]Name: dc3cv1.zip Size: 27,314,674 Date: 09-21-2007 Downloads: 2,398FS2004 Douglas DC-3C. An attempt to make the ultimate, most realistic DC-3 aircraft possible, using a wide variety of parts created by various freeware designers. The goal is to implete all the real DC3's systems, so that real checklists could be used, and also to include realistic failures. A completely new failure mode system has been implemented, with each of over 64 failure modes being fully realistic. Includes self-installer. Package by Charles E. Owen.Regards.Gus.
August 21, 201015 yr Hi... Just get the MAAM DC-3 - seriously - in my humble opinion - you will not find a finer model of a DC-3 anywhere... I have all their stuff... I believe the guy from RealAir did the FDE and his work is really top shelf... Also your money goes to a good cause - keeping the real old birds flying...Regards,Scott
August 21, 201015 yr First the cheap option: The default DC-3 can be tarted up a lot, if you visit Trev Morson's DSC-3 site here, there are a number of tweaks available to soup it up: http://www.douglasdc3.com/The best current payware options are the MAAM DC-3 and if you want its predecessor, the DC-2, the UIVER DC-2 (which you can find at Flight1.com). These are both excellent aircraft, and even though they have been available for a while, they are still absolutely worth getting (both have FS9 and FSX patches available and both are extremely realistic). You will not regret buying either of these. There are two newer DC-3s on the way for FS (currently in development), but if you want the truth, they will have to be very good indeed to beat the MAAM DC-3 and the UIVER DC-2, because they are both well in the 'must have' category by a comfortable margin, so the short answer is. Get the MAAM DC-3 and give the UIVER DC-2 a look as well. The MAAM DC-3 may be old, but so is the real DC-3 and like the real DC-3, it's still one of the best things ever to have wings bolted onto it.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

An added bonus is that there are a large number of liveries available for it as freeware and, as Scott says, your money goes to a good cause, as these old piston-engined aircraft are increasingly expensive to keep flying these days. The Uiver DC-2 is great too - I have and enjoy both. You won't regret it if you go with MAAM!Regards,Bill
August 21, 201015 yr I enjoy flying around in the MAAM DC3 and as others have said, purchases go towards a good cause. The VC is great and it flies really easy. There is good news for those with FSX, MAAM is working on a Native FSX DC3. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
August 21, 201015 yr I will just add my "amen" to the rest of the MAAM choir! :( I agree that it is an older model and the VC is not totally functional but it is still a wonderful product and I use it frequently and always enjoy doing so. And being an old fart, I have spent plenty of time in a DC3, both in the passenger seats (my first flight as a six year old) and in the front right seat. (As a 28 yr old First Officer with a company that had kept one DC3 in its fleet because it's licence required it to service several towns that still had grass runways). So I can tell you from experience that the sound is excellent! BTW, I live 25 minutes from MAAM and visit there once a year. The R4D, I am sad to tell you, is in poor condition as they are putting all their resources into their other warbirds. The last time I saw her she was still sitting on the tarmac looking very neglected. I guess they never did raise the money they needed to buy some new engines...
August 21, 201015 yr I also recently purchased the MAAM DC-3 for FS9, and have not been disappointed. It's still a very nicely done rendition of the classic, and great fun to fly. John G.

It's hyperrealistic to the point where if you put out a fire incorrectly the aileron and rudder cables burn.
