September 3, 201015 yr We need to have a way to point people to the new poll everyone requested in the Hanger Chat area. You work with Avsim, how do we do it?The only way I can think of is to make a forums wide announcement or a small article (with a link) on the main page - Sadly both these options are solely reserved for important News and/or AVSIM updates only. Sorry.Would everyone revote in the What Sims do we all use? Poll in Hangar Chat please?Thank you.Already did.Hey, Momtchil!I guess I do. So far so good then: Rafal,I thought it was either you or Gavin, but couldn't remember for sure.
September 5, 201015 yr I had FSX installed on my 2GHz RAM, AMD Quad Core 9600 processor with stand alone video card of 512 MGb and I still could not run FSX to my satisfaction. I had extremely low FPS and could never get the Terrain Mesh to go high at all. All settings had to be Med to Med Low to get any flights to happen. Add-on Aircraft were o.k. but when I went to fly anything but missions I always got 'Not Enough Memory' error message. I was also extremely disappointed with the fact that even with Accelerator you could not talk to ATC by yourself you had to use the computer's voice. All in all FSX is a resource hog, I now have 3GHz RAM and still could not run FSX in the manner to which it is advertised. It is extremely disappointing and should not have been released because of all the bugs with the program, the only good thing about FSX was the missions and they could not hold my interest too long. By the way, what is the new MSF? I have not heard anything about it yet. Please let us newbies know what this new program is.Also, there are way more planes and helicopters for FS 9 then there ever will be for FSX. People are just not putting in the work for FSX that they have for FS 9. My guess is that the FSX line will die out quickly because it cannot run on the newer machines with the sliders all the way to max. Given the propensity for Flight Simmers to want perfection in their aircraft and scenery, FSX just does not fit the bill.
September 5, 201015 yr By the way, what is the new MSF? I have not heard anything about it yet. Please let us newbies know what this new program isHi, journeyer! There is a whole subforum on it. Have a look: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/365-the-microsoft-flight-forum/
September 5, 201015 yr Rafal,I thought it was either you or Gavin, but couldn't remember for sure.Rafal takes the credit, I just stole it from him :( Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
September 5, 201015 yr Rafal takes the credit, I just stole it from himNot at all, Gavin! Contrary to popular belief, the population of blue rhinos is huge and thriving.
September 6, 201015 yr ...........Contrary to popular belief, the population of blue rhinos is huge and thriving.Yup, its true! They are all over the place it seems.
September 6, 201015 yr Guys, in the new AVSIM forums you have the possibility to check how many users are currently browsing the particular forums. You can see these stats at the bottom left corner on the starting page of each forum. So here are the numbers for right now, 13:30 MEZ (currently GMT +2)FSX Forum - 36 usersFS9 Forum - 3 users (yes, only 3!)MS Flight Forum - 5 usersI'm checking these numbers every time when entering the new AVSIM forums. And so far there have always been far more users browsing the FSX forum than the FS9 forum.I think these stats say enough!Wolfgang

It doesn't really conclusively prove anything - for example a lot of FS9 users could prefer to fly as opposed to hang out in forums - That's how it used to be for me prior to 2008. I wasn't much of a forum person, but I have been using the AVSIM Library and others since their creation (I remember when all these libraries were new). You could even look at it another way - for example if I say that a lot of the posts in the FSX forum are of a technical assistance sort. We could say that the FSX forum is so busy because a lot of people are looking for ways to improve/fix it - not necessarily because its more popular. At the same time I could say that FSX is more popular because of the forum usage. As you can see I can twist the forums user statistics anyway I want and in the end it doesn't really prove anything to any accurate degree.Frankly I don't know which sim is more popular. But the fact is that still a lot of people prefer to use FS9.
September 6, 201015 yr I think these stats say enoughI don't know what exactly you mean, but IMHO what it says for sure is that there are many many more new users of FSX than of FS9. And it's obvious - why would someone start his simming with an oder version of the game? They usually know little (you don't know much whe you're fresh) and have a lot of things to check and learn (if they want to), so they visit forums very often. As they have little to write, they usually just read and search for information. We, FS9ers, are mostly a crowd of quite experienced guys who decided to stay with our favourite sim and we are not much populated by new blood (which payware developers want to drink so much, lol).Yes, of course, there is a large group of oldtimers who just converted to FSX, including some respected names, but I believe the mass is created largely by new-to-the-game youngsters. Not only in AVSIM.On this occasion, I would like to share my thought on all this FS9/FSX stuff. I believe it shows something we have coded deep in our nature (some more, some less, of course): WE NEED TO FIGHT somehow. We need to feel we belong to one camp and we need to prove the other camp the truth is on our side. Not that it is limited to flightsimming. Look at the history and present time of human kind.No matter if it is wars, religions, politics or just sports - it is so hard to co-exist in perfect harmony without comparing, prefering and trying to feel different or (sometimes) better. So a personal message from me: I love you, FSX Brothers! :(
September 17, 201015 yr Just wondering how many dual users we have.Hi,I`ve been a simmer for many years and have FS98, FS2k, FS2k2, FS9 and FSX available. Without a shadow of a doubt my preferred platform is FS9. I keep going back to FSX to see if I can come to terms with it but so far I can`t !!Dave

September 18, 201015 yr Yes I use FS9 and FSX!But I like FS9 more than fsx!Maybe I´ve just installed fsx for the missions xD
September 19, 201015 yr I have a ton of add ons for fs9 but I'm finding more and more payware is leaning towards fsx. So far I've managed to stay true to fs9 and would prefer it that way but sooner or later add ons for fs9 are just going to dry up! That will be a sad day indeed..
September 19, 201015 yr sooner or later add ons for fs9 are just going to dry up! That will be a sad day indeedDepends on how many addons you need to be happy with your sim. Frankly speaking I have so many top notch airports, planes and tools for FS9 (many of them NOT working on FSX) that, even though I will still warmly welcome any excellent one I happen not to have yet (like LEBL or EDDM now or maybe ZBAA, YSSY, NTAA or HECA if someone offers them in future), I have enough of them to enjoy for a few incarnations.Plus when the time when FSX has as many of them as FS9 now comes, I will be an elderly ex-simmer (with hands shaking too much to hold the yoke).
