October 1, 201015 yr That Martinair was a sight to see. Earlier over Canada a UPS 757 sliced right through me! I'm thinking it would be a good idea to have a screenshot forum for close encounters with AI, I have had plenty of amusing situations myself. The Martinair MD11 is AI supplied by Ultimate Traffic 2, which uses real world routings (or close to) that take into account VORs and waypoints, vs great circle routes direct between airports. The problem with the FSX AI is that the AI models do not correct for winds, so instead of following a straight path and crabbing into the wind, they drift off the airways and are always correcting their path. But I did notice that they respect the odd/even cruise levels depending on direction of flight. For the most part on popular routes the AI align with routes instead of being spread out in random, a nice touch that adds to the immersion factor.I have Active Sky Evolution, and had noticed that I rarely if ever have anything strange happen with the cruise altitude temps, but I do get the random wind shift which causes the MD11 to lose speed and play catchup. As Dan mentioned, if your plane allows you to manage the throttle setting it helps to set max power temporarily to help gain speed, then revert to normal cruise power once things settle. I believe that Active Sky or FSX weather can sometimes get metar weather with errors that cause such drastic temp changes, but knock on wood I haven't had that happen once in the past month I've been flying the MD11 on long hauls. The high TAT situation is the worst situation of them all, I can handle the occasional wind shift but the high cruise temp phenomenon can drop you from the sky! With the very latest ASE, DWC off, and wind smoothing with the latest FSUIPC, weather at cruise on all my long hauls lately have been very pleasant. October 5, 201015 yr Hi everyone, did my first cargo flight ever, UPS 203 from my home base KPHL (Philadelphia) to EDDK (Cologne-Bonn) to replicate a RL UPS flight. Total time was 6 hours 36 minutes (departure 13:16z, arrival 1952z) , nice tailwind the whole way.See screenshot below, taken during the climbout from KPHL to cruise over New Jersey. Can anyone notice something interesting? Think Saturday Night Live (this is near the border of NJ and NY) A.J. Domingo

October 5, 201015 yr At this moment I've got about 2 hours left of KEWR to EPWA to go :( Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
October 5, 201015 yr I see waypoints JIMEE FALON You are correct sir! I get a kick out of these waypoint names, especially those that pertain to the region they are in. (cwrld in orlando to name one) They are like personalized license plates, they are funny to see. You know you hit it big when the FAA uses you in their route names. A.J. Domingo

October 8, 201015 yr I just got my MD11 for my Birthday so I took it out on a short hop as a learning exercise so now my MD-11 is at KMEM after a nice short flight from KFLL.I had to try landing three times though, first attempt was ILS 27... but due to my poor altitude management I was at ~4000ft MSL at G/S intercept instead of the posted 1900ft >_<.Second attempt had me doing the ILS 36R approach, all was good but the AI ATC was being inefficient and was only using that runway for arrivals so I had to go around at minimums due to traffic.Third attempt I requested ILS 36L and due to forgetting to retard my throttles properly at flare, I floated down half the runway and just barely stopped at the end. I learned quite a few things from that flight.I just need to read the manual a bit to understand the AFS which is where some of my issues stem from.I love my new tri-holer. :biggrin:Now to plan the flight back home...
October 10, 201015 yr Mine is at Grodno UMMG (Belarus) after some dodgy fuel planning and strong headwinds threatened to bring a spectacular end to my VHHX-EHAM cargo flight. No doubt the virtual chief pilot will be breathalising me, and possibly directing me to the FMS fuel planning threads on AVSIM.At least I can pick up some more cargo. Regards, PD
October 11, 201015 yr Preparing Fedex 146 for PANC to KMEM. First time in Alaska, looking forward to it. A.J. Domingo
October 14, 201015 yr Just finished a flight From LEPA - EHAM. I'm parked at E18 reboarding/refueling for a short hop over to LOWW. But may run down to one of the Amsterdam cafe's 1st before I depart :(*Click thumb for actual size pic. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
October 18, 201015 yr Dan, I'm surprised you didn't take the classic Martinair out for that flight. I love the livery here though, I got a kick out of learning that Bruce Dickinson (THE Bruce Dickinson) is a licenced 737-700/757 captain for Astreaus in the UK. A.J. Domingo
October 18, 201015 yr Hi AJ,Actually I did several flights along the same route (and reverse) with the recent Martinair done by Christian. I actually bought the two sceneries just for this route :)This particular flight though I did with FSPassengers and an older company so had to fly something my company owned. That company is pretty broke because all of my repairs. I have war zoning on as well as my failure rate at 40% for that company.Besides, I like the way the jetway parks itself on Eddies Face :Big Grin:Yeah, Bruce sure is, as is John Travolta. I actually just learned of it a few years ago. October 21, 201015 yr Hi Dan,I dig the "disco" cabin lighting on your Iron Maiden livery. Haven't noticed that before. :( "A life is like a garden.
