October 29, 201015 yr Hey guys,I'm looking for some help here. First my "situation":- FSX Gold- a bunch of great planes- a bunch of great airports=> Everything else looks... default...I've been looking into buying one of those "enhance-it-all"-products. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it, so ONE of them shall be "selected" here...I fly mainly IFR (pretty high) but I also don't mind a nice VFR session, only that most of the time the ground looks so ugly that I wanna fly higher =PMy main area of flying is Europe (in general), though if you tell me that one of the US/Canadia versions looks 10-times better, I can change that, I'm not the guy who wants to fly over his house all the time...What product should I choose? My opinion so far:REX:Looks great, but I think I should take care of the ground textures/scenery first...UTX:Seems "good", but is it worth it with the default textures?GEX:Seems "better", but it is often mentioned that you "should have UTX" for it to do its work properly...Thanks in advance for you help,Stefan - Stefan Dittrich

Better yet head over to the FTX ORBX guys and check out the PNW, Upcoming Pacific Fjords or something in Australia....but if anything get REX 2.0 + OVerdrvrive no matter what you do.Ron Hamilton Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
October 29, 201015 yr If you fly big jets I'd go with the atmospheric enhancement - REX/FEX/ASX etc | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Every time you find yourself spending a few bucks for a coffee out or such, don't, save it and buy all the above as quickly as you can along with Orbx stuff and then you will be getting so much out of FSX you will see its true potential and be having fantastic fun compared to the default. October 30, 201015 yr May I also suggest FSGlobal 2010? It enhances the mesh globally to great extend. If you like flying in mountain and hill area's, you can't do without it. Regards, Frank van der Werff
October 30, 201015 yr Author May I also suggest FSGlobal 2010? It enhances the mesh globally to great extend. If you like flying in mountain and hill area's, you can't do without it.Christmas isn't too far away =)For now I bought REX2 (and UTX... couldn't wait).Maybe GEX next month and FSGlobal for Christmas... that's a plan =)Thanks!edit: I'm going to return UTX.... my house is in the middle of nowhere, again. All the streets are there, okay, but it's nowhere near the quality I expected...Also, it takes about 30 seconds to fully load the high-res textures, before that it's blurred... and since I don't want to wait 30 secs every time to have a nice view... => Whoup, there it goes!Next Question:So maybe those "huge-area-addons" aren't quite right (loading time might be due to my PC, but since it runs perfectly on the highest settings... dunno)If I was to look for an addon for just one area for VFR, what should I choose?FTX NA Blue?Ultimate Alaska X? October 30, 201015 yr The basics to get FSX looking close to 'real':First you need mesh so elevations are more accurate. I use FSGenesis. You can get either sections or the entire world, depending on how you fly. Get the lifetime membership and you never have to buy mesh again. Then you need 'landclass'. There are many out there, Genesis has some, Scenery Tech has a lot, and there are others. I use Scenery Tech mostly. Landclass tells FSX what to put where in general. You dont want desert where a forrest should be, etcOnce you have those, then it's texture time. GEX has the US and Europe covered, and its the best there is.After you have the basics, you can start improving specific areas where you generally fly. If you want a lot of accuracy then 'photoreal' is the way to go, but not all PR scenery is created equal. Some dont do night textures, seasons, autogen, etc while others give it all to you. If you want to see some FREE scenery go to Blue Sky, and check out the western US stuff. Its a pain to download but its free and will give you an idea of what photo real looks like before you spend any money. You said you tried UTX and didnt like it. Its a great program but it needs a specific setup. Not all its features play well with other programs, I use it mainly for some roads and shorelines and leave the rest off. Experimentation will go a long ways for you, dont give up on it yet.The above takes care of 90% of land issues, and you say you have REX ( I use FEX), so you are already set for sky. clouds, weather. etc. The thing with FSX is that there are literally 100's of options to enhance it to YOUR liking. Check the forums, websites etc to see what is available, then ask questions about each one before purchasing or downloading. Use 'due diligence' and you will end up with a sim you won't want to step away from, it's addictive :( Jay
October 30, 201015 yr May I also suggest FSGlobal 2010? It enhances the mesh globally to great extend. If you like flying in mountain and hill area's, you can't do without it.FSGenesis is far superior.edit: I'm going to return UTX.... my house is in the middle of nowhere, again. All the streets are there, okay, but it's nowhere near the quality I expected...Seriously? You expect your house to be modeled by an addon that tweaks entire continents? Besides UTX is good with city landclass, you also want to use urban landclass from scenery tech landclass available at flight1.com
October 30, 201015 yr Author FSGenesis is far superior.Seriously? You expect your house to be modeled by an addon that tweaks entire continents? Besides UTX is good with city landclass, you also want to use urban landclass from scenery tech landclass available at flight1.comNope, but even if I just look at some random GPS map for a car navigation system I get a more precise presentation of what is a city (houses) and what is not.Since I guess that this was at least one of the sources for this product, it should be modelled there as well. The bigger issue for me is the loading time for the high-def textures actually... not sure how cheap I can "fix" that =PThanks for your answers.I think I'll continue the way PIC007 suggested and read my way through all those different/similar AddOns. - Stefan Dittrich
