November 1, 201015 yr It seems to me that if ORBX can do for other large airports what it just did for YMML with it's new version 2, there may be a new market for FSX tubeliners again. Instead of a slide show, there is incredible FPS and smoothness even with aircraft and airport traffic at 100% with every YMML option checked. If I could attain even close to these numbers at airports in Brisbane, Sydney, New York, London, Toronto, Vancouver and Seattle, I might reload my complex airliners and haul hundreds of people or tons of boxes around at 35,000 feet again (at least occassionally), not just low and slow! I don't know how these guys did it, but they sure did do something that no one else has ever been able to do - make a large city airport with all the extras almost as flyable as a small country one! Here are some snips of the FPS I just took dive bombing in the trike around the new YMML v2:If this kind of 3D rendering technology is replicable elsewhere (and I can't see why not), ORBX might have just opened up a whole new market for themselves. Wait until the old FS2004 airliner crowd get a load of this kind of performance at large airports, there could be a landslide over to FSX with FTX, even with some kind of MS Flight program coming! It's about time someone found the magical mix!Kind regards,
November 1, 201015 yr Thanks for posting Stephen, that looks just great! What happens when you fly some big iron?
November 1, 201015 yr If you're getting teens and 20's in the trike with your overclocked i7 there's no way my c2q machine could run it.And that's why I stay away from the OBRX airports. They obliterate FPS on anything but an overclocked i7.There's plenty of a market for tubes in FSX. Just look at PMDG... Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
November 1, 201015 yr And that's why I stay away from the OBRX airports. They obliterate FPS on anything but an overclocked i7.That's a little broad KiwiKat, their big commercial hubs are very demanding, but their smaller GA fields have been pretty good on all of the systems I have had. But yeah, 25-30 fps in the trike makes me leery of going in there with a tubeliner.
November 1, 201015 yr that is good news! I'm d/l now!a little catch there Stephen, I see that you have the trike, try that in the Lancair or Carenado C208, Duke then that will be the real test. but hey anything has got to be better for sure.if they can do that with YMML - you guys really need to do whatever is you did to KSEA/KPDX areas! - no excuse now! Ciao!
November 1, 201015 yr Moderator Personally I have always felt there was a market for "tubeliner drivers" as you put it in FSX. In my opinion, the only reason it seems like there isn't is because you hear more people saying they prefer using FSX for GA and FS9 for airliner flights, than you do hearing people like me saying they do both in FSX or use FSX primarly for flying heavy metal.Since the day I installed FSX, I have used FSX mainly for flying airliners and only once in a while for GA/helicopter/military flying. To each their own, but I have never seen a need to use FSX for only one type of flying and FS9 for airliners. FSX for me in a do-it-all sim. In a way it kind of reminds me of the notion that you will only get good peformance in FSX flying complex airliners if you have an OC'ed i7 and 6GB of RAM (or more). To this day my OC'ed E8400 and 2GB of RAM run FSX fine even with the PMDG 747.On the subject of ORBX opening another market for themselves, John has stated they will never open their developement up to doing stand alone airports and they will alwasy stay in the the format they are in now, which is to do a regional pack, then fill it in with the airports. Although even doing this, for the PNW they have put a hold on doing KSEA but will do KPDX in the mean time.If your into flying airliners in the US airspace you should try FSDreamteams products. I would wager that if your happy with the looks and performance of ORBX big hubs then you would love FSDT's major hubs they have done in the US. They all get great FPS and look great.Sean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 1, 201015 yr I agree with Sean.I have been using FSX for 100% airliners for two years. (OK, yes I have a OC'd i7). The old YMMML gave me 20-30fps in the LevelD. So looking forward to seeing what V2 does! I do think Bufferpools and Highmemfix has made a huge difference too now. November 1, 201015 yr (OK, yes I have a OC'd i7):( I've got Coffs Harbour but it is just about unusable on my system unless I'm flying a Carenado or default FSX aircraft. However, the ORBX regions perform wonderfully on my computer, so I can't complain too much. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
November 2, 201015 yr I have to agree that ORBX/FTX has huge potential. I would love to see them really push into the LARGE airport market in the US. I thought that they were going to do KSEA but then they took it off their website. PNW is absolutely spectacular and the way they are going the whole west coast is probably going to be completed. I have complained on this forum and bitterly to my self about the lack of West coast airports to fly to. Soon we will have KSFO and KLAX. It sure would be nice to have KSEA and KPDX as well. If they can optimize their airports as much as YMML and YBBN then it would be so great to fly the NGX into all of these cities. In regards to your other point I have never had any issues with any of the other add on companies airports and I have been flying FSX since the very day it came out. It is always perplexing to me to hear that others have issues with performance. Every rig is different so I guess everyone issues are going to be different. Mike Keigley
November 2, 201015 yr Moderator I would love to see them really push into the LARGE airport market in the US. Someone not too long ago posed that question on their site but they are sticking to their plan of only doing airports that fit into their regaional base packs. I can see why they would do that, but on the other hand as long as it takes to produce a regional base packs it will take some time before other parts of the US will be visited. At least in the mean time FSDT seems to be pretty commited to working on popular US airports and perhaps after they finish KLAX and KMIA they will do KSEA. It will be interesting to see what if any backward compatibility will be possible when Flight comes to market so that their current work can still be used in the new sim or if they will stop FSX developement and go exclusively to Flight. It sure would be nice to have KSEA and KPDX as well. Even though they put on hold or canceled KSEA, KPDX is still on their site as an airport to get done. Hopefully it wont be too much longer and we will have a nice replacement for the Flightzone version that we enjoyed in FS9 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
