November 22, 201015 yr Steve-Red = Immediately set down the coffee and throw the crossword puzzle on the floor.Amber = Finish your coffee, interrogate the crew until you figure out 22-Across (5 letter word for "THE") then see if the FO remembers where the QRH is kept...Ahhh, I was drinking when I read this post. I laughed so hard that water came out my nose! All I could think of was the captain throwing hot coffee in the FO's face and slamming the puzzle down on the ground in something reminiscent of an SNL skit. .... Then I got to " five letter word for THE" and that was more than I could handle! Honestly, next time I'm in a bad mood, I'll have to think of "five letter word for 'the' ". November 22, 201015 yr Thanks Robert. Granted I knew what they meant. Was just trying to explain to the member who was asking me if I thought we should have a "Hey Stupid" light for a #2 engine fire that I did not mean the master warning system. I suppose I should explain it better (and address my posts to the appropriate people!). Thank you for your response though.... By the way, what in the world is a 5 letter word for 'the?' :( That one has been racking my brain since I read it. Very good information about the aircraft. November 23, 201015 yr Commercial Member Steve-I dunno. Thats why we haven't finished the QRH for that amber light yet. :( That joke is actually one between me and my lovely bride. She is a "NYTimes Crossword Puzzle (in ink)" kind of person... I get tired just thinking about doing the puzzle... Robert S. November 23, 201015 yr Ah. I thought it was some kind of inside joke at the forum that maybe I missed out on. Good to know Robert. Never been a big fan of crossword puzzles. Never seen our pilots do them either. Usually once we get in flight the PNF starts reading Maxim or something on cross countries, and then he trades off with the PF whenever it is his turn to go PNF. I still like the one cross country where we took off, and had a anti-ice amber CAP, and a transient TGT occassionally going into the yellow. They rock paper scissored as to whether to continue, and we wound up flying home. One of the most bizzare things I have ever seen in my career. As you say though amber is not very serious. To an unqualified mechanic at the time though I watched that TGT gauge the whole way home. :( Steve Jordan Aviation Structural Mechanic SH-60B/HH-60H/MH-60R/MH-60S USN FSX Hours: 3000 and counting
November 24, 201015 yr They rock paper scissored as to whether to continue, and we wound up flying home. Nice SOPs!!! LOL George Golas ---------------------- I hate gravity!
November 24, 201015 yr Nice SOPs!!! LOLNo kidding. Now I dont feel so guilty watching a little CNN when flying on VATSIM. Though I guess to be more like the real world, I should start "reading" MAXIM instead Scott Kalin VATSIM #1125397 - KPSP Palm Springs International AirportSpace Shuttle (SSMS2007) http://www.space-shu....com/index.htmlOrbiter 2010P1 http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/
November 24, 201015 yr Well being as junior as I was it was one of those uneasy experiences. Now some 7 years later I know stuff like that is not really to big of a deal. That is why there are limits. It is either out of limits, or it is flyable. Since it was transient I think that is where it became at their discretion, and they continued forward.. 9 times out of 10 on the H-60 a transient TGT gripe is just a worn out white engine harness anyway, or it became damp and usually dries out in flight. There comes a lot of discretion with being PIC (or HAC in our case). I know when I got my QA inspector qualification part of your responibilities aknowledgement that you have to sign when you become qualified states that you must use your superior knowledge and best judgement to effectively do your job. I tend to veer to the side of caution, but as anyone in aviation can tell you the pendulum swings both ways on that one. The main thing is not putting other lives, or yourself/aircraft in danger.
