Vroute Any Good for the J41?

Featured Replies

I'm considering buying Vroute Premium for planning flights for the J41 and wondered how good/compatible it is with the J41?As far as I can tell, it is possible to generate .rte files for the FMC, but can you also generate FSX (.pln) flights? I like how you can generate a Flight Progress Card (PDF). Neat. Would you say it is a 'complete' flight planner for the J41?Also, what is the weather reporting like? Can you opt to download weather from Active Sky (Evolution)? What charts do you get for the UK?I'm impatiently awaiting Topcatsim's PFPX (http://www.pfpx.com/), which looks superb, but it looks as though it wount be out until April or June :( Thanks!

You can try vroute for free before buying! Basic edition has most of the features. But one thing, vroute is not flight planning tool, it's a database off routes. Just check basic edition smile.gif

I use vRoute standard edition, it is good, they have a huge database of flightplans to everywhere in the world. The "problem" is that those FP are created by users and the majority is ficctional. I myself submitted many routes I got from RouteFinder and even from FSX's flight planner. So, is there anywhere I can get real-world flight plans?

Check out flightaware.com.... Pilot resources... Then recently used IFR routes for the US. I fly exclusively in the US and use RW routes each time I "file"Hope this helps!Buddy Morgan

Flightaware provides real FP from or to the US, but I don't fly from/to the US very frequently. When I purchase my NGX, I'll start a world tour. I used vRoute to file FP, but I'd like to find real FP for the legs I'll fly.

Thanks, just been playing with the non-premium version and it seems to be ok. The weather page seems to nothing more than a screen dump from CNN. Pretty poor tbh. I also didn't know that it was just a database rather than a 'true' flight planner. This puts me off it slightly. Oh well, maybe it will tide me over until PFPX comes out...

For building flight plans I've used FSBuild for the longest time. They've just began using the Navigraph cycles too. This program has an auto generate button that will automatically put together a flight plan with the shortest route; sometimes shorter than routefinder. Every once in a while you do have to manually edit the route to input NATs or something. But say you use Flightaware, you just copy the route into the program and it generates the flight plan in seconds. It also outputs to FSX, PMDG, LDS, Wilco, and Flight1's Mustang. If you also plan to fly the NGX and use a weather addon like ASE, I find the fuel predictions to be very accurate. I already use it for the LDS767 and PMDG747 and MD11 and have never landed with too much or too little fuel. Its a bit tricky to set it up for fuel predictions but I'd be happy to help with that.Recently I started using FlightSim Commander too (before FSB started using Navigraph) and find manually building flightplans easier since you can see all the airways at once. It also has some other inflight features like allowing you to track your flight and other traffic around you (AI or IVAO, Vatsim, etc.)

You can try FSBuild.EricOops, sorry didn't read the last post already.

Yes, I've experienced that with FS Build as well. Often the routes that it generates are a bit odd and require some modification. I didn't know that you could input your own route. This could be very useful i.e. I could use other sources to generate the route and get FS Build to output the FMC file. Is it easy to input your own route? Think i'll go and dig out the manual...Does FS Build support fuel planning for the J41?

I always use FS Commander for my FP's. Although I have noticed that it does not make overseas plans very well. In that case I use vroute.

A good flight planner web site can be found hereYes you have to manually convert the result. But it always uses the latest airac and also you can adjust the flightplan depending on current notams.vololiberista

FSB does have a performance file for the J41 and has always worked out fine for me. As far as putting in your own route, it depends. If you use say routefinder or flight aware, yes. All you have to do is copy and paste the route string (i.e. for Hilo to Honolulu; ITO V22 OKALA V16 UPP.JULLE4) and hit build. Your flight plan will be ready in less than 10 seconds, sometimes it takes a little longer for super long routes like Heathrow to Hong Kong for example. But I'm pretty sure the J41 can't do that one.As far as building your own flight plan from scratch. It does take some practice and patience. What I've taken to doing is building it in FlightSim Commander (it's still tricky but a little easier since you can see all the airways at once) and then copy the string it gives me into FSB to get the FMS files and the fuel plan. It's still totally possible in FSB though.

Thanks for the information, very useful indeed. I wasn't aware of the route string, that will come in very handy. I just fired up FSB but I don't seem to be able to identify/select the J41 performance file. Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

Ed Haslam

Oh, you have to install it. Go to the FSBuild website and on the right side there will be a menu. Scroll down to Library and then Aircraft Performance Files. (Or click HERE) Click on that and scroll down the list. The J41 is the second from the bottom. The instructions on how to add the aircraft is included.

That's superb, many thanks indeed. Are there any tricks to performing the fuel calculations?
