Externalities and the NGX

I'm not buying the NGX unless PMDG models the ground up goldfish crackers and half consumed glass of coke that's stuffed in the seatback of 13B. So there. :(
Pretty sure there's some of those in the cockpit haha, at least in the original photos. That was one dirty bird.
Hello, I mean: the realistic simulation of the landing gear's bouncing and suspension. For exemple:
ThanksTeo Halfen
Teo,As far as I can tell ours does behave like that - the struts do compress.

Very true. Any worse and it wouldn't be called a landing anymore.

I've seen worst! In any case chaps, just remember the real world is a lot more fluid then the environments portrayed in flight simulator! It's very easy to sit in front of a computer and say that's a terrible landing but I really do disagree. I don't think you can compare landing a plane on a pc flight simulator and a real landing, although the technique is similar the actually execution is mind bogglingly different. A lot of guys I fly with tell me that even Boeing acknowledge the 738 is the worst plane they have made from a handling point of view, we have one of the highest vref speeds similar to the heavies and considerably higher than the minibus, which is why we always seem to catch them up:-)James

Oh I wasn't comparing it to anything from a simulator. Just imagine how scary that was for the passengers tho..

Hi,Imagine how scary it would be for the pilots? Especially if the OFDM, or as I call it Big Brother, is watching:-)All the best,James

If the 800 handels bad, whats the 900 like?

I heard a while ago that KLM had adopted a 2 step rotation on take off on the -900, not sure if it's true?I also read that Boeing had to extend the gear legs themselves as the rotation rate is pretty critical as it's relatively easily to scrape the tail! Tail strikes are not only a threat at take off but also on the landing. It always makes me smile when we are taxying behind an Airbus, I use the analagy that slither along like a snake as they sit high and mighty looking down on us:-)The -800 is tricky at times but it's great fun, you can't become complacent because she'll really bite you on the bum when you think you've got the knack of landing, just to remind you who is in charge of the delicate pilot:aircraft relationship:-)All the best,James

So your initial rotation would be comparatively lower, then pitch up after you get a positive climb?

It's all very intresting insight into the operations of the NG.I must admit, looking back, that I have noticed the higher landing speed of the 738 over the Airbus. And also between models of the ng family. The 73G seems to be slower on final than the 8, but this is just judgement from a passenger perspective, plus I haven't flowen on a 700 for two and a half years.

With reference to the -900 I was told you initially rotate to 10 degrees and once airborne you hear a click as the nose wheel oleo extends and then you complete the rotation up to climb pitch. The -800 is a fluid rotation around 2 degrees per second remembering to continue back pressure otherwise she'll sit at around 12 degrees in the dead band, maximum climb pitch is 20 degrees in my airline, we never go beyond even if the fd's go beyond it, which when you're relatively light they frequently do:-)All the best,James

It looks like he landed on a trampoline.

Almost sounds like you're talking about another aircraft PMDG has made, the MD11 Big%20Grin.gif

That's worth pasting into a text file for future reference! I'm sure I'll forget by the time the NGX is released, so I try to keep up with little tidbits of info like that. Can you tell me a little more about what you meant by "otherwise she'll sit at around 12 degrees in the dead band?" I'm not very pilot-lingo savvy. I'm assuming you mean at that pitch angle you're airborne but not yet able to achieve/maintain a safe climb rate? And is the 20 deg limit a safety or comfort concern?
