February 7, 201115 yr Commercial Member If you are going to duplicate it 1:1 you are going to have to use a very, very narrow field of view. Im too lazy to do the math, but just think how little of a field of view a 22" monitor sitting about 2 feet infront of your eyes is compared to your full real life field of view. The realistic field of view angle would be something ridic like 15%, not 60 or whatever is normal in a computer game like FSX and nowhere near the 170 degrees that is normal for a human. It would be like looking through a rolled up newspaper.Obviously you don't have your sim setup right, I dont jumpseat anymore but still purchase LVL-D sim hours, I've managed to replicate the view without issues using a 42inch screen and trackIRAnd it's nothing to do with maths, just sit in a LVL-D sim or buy a 1 hour Cessna training flight, go home and replicate. In fact as I've stated before don't even bother with the above, just sit in your car and look out of the window. February 7, 201115 yr I dont fly VC, I fly 2d, but if I were to try to recreate a 1:1 copy of real life then it would indeed be a matter of math and the field of view would be way to narrow to be used for anything useful. It's not a matter of the sim, I have had this exact same discussion in regards to other games / sims. You could of course put your monitor half a feet infront of your eyes and you could get away with running higher FOVs, but you'd end up with a headache really quickly
February 7, 201115 yr Ahh, the usual 2D vs 3D thread heheI use a "small" 19in LCD with Track IR, and VC only. However, I do use a few popups to manipulate important gauges, such as a GPS or FMS, or autopilot.Been a TIR5 + TCP user for 1+ years and am very happy!p.s. this comment is excellent-> This is one reason why I don't want a widescreen monitor. I feel the viewing ratio is so fake. Great Video but as I mentioned in another post I dont get why some people have there VC zoomed out so much, do you drive your car from the backseat? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 8, 201115 yr Get the best of both 2D and 3D, add an Acer touch screen to the setup, and drag 2D panels onto that and activate buttons, cdu etc. by hand. "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"

February 14, 201115 yr Could you recommend a good touch screen? I use standard LCD monitors to undock 2D panels and would love a touchscreen for the CDUTHanksGood thread as I have been using three monitors for outside view and 3 more for instrument panels icluding the cdu. I think I will activate a 3d panel for the three monitors and see how I like it.I purchase a used ELO touch screen monitor on ebay for less than $100. It is heavy and has a USB connection. You will need to download their driver software. I use it for the CDU and it works great. Brad Rich
February 14, 201115 yr I dont fly VC, I fly 2d, ...That sort of rules you out of this conversation, don't you think? Paul Smith.
February 14, 201115 yr That sort of rules you out of this conversation, don't you think? Why would it? The point I was making was purely a mathematical one.
February 14, 201115 yr Commercial Member Why would it? The point I was making was purely a mathematical one.We we're discussing a realistic viewpoint within the flightdeck using a virtual cockpit. It sounds like your talking about 2D.Thanks Brad, I have bought a touchscreen of ebay but wont be able to test it for a few weeks, hopefully it will all go well! Rob Prest
February 14, 201115 yr I find that VC w/ TrackIR is more realistic from a viewpoint standpoint, but I find that 2d panels are more realistic from a systems management viewpoint, as you can adjust things on the overhead while viewing the results on the main panel, easily change settings that a real pilot wouldn't have to look for, etc. Joe Sherrill
February 15, 201115 yr i always used 2d but recently got trackir5 after reading other users posts about how good it was, now i always use the vc.if i want to use the vc in 3d mode as well as the nvidia 3d glasses do you have to have a 3d monitor thank you,Jim MSI A520M-A PRO,AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core, 16 Threads 4.1Ghz,Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black Edition CPU Cooler,MSI VENTUS 2X Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB Graphics Card,Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) 3200Mhz DDR4 Memory,Gigabyte UD750GM 750W Gold Rated Modular PSU,Kingston NV3 2TB NVME M.2 GEN 4 SSD.
February 16, 201115 yr Guys, don't waste time discussing this topic, PMDG hates it with a passion. I made a thread/poll exactly like this one a while back and it was deleted without any warning. PMDG is transitioning to VC only products and there's nothing we can do about it.
