Any cool iPad apps for FSX?

Featured Replies

Any cool iPad apps for FSX? ...There's FSXPad that puts three instruments on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch: altimeter, compass and speed indicator. I hope we see more iPx connectivity!

I'm curious what other kinds of apps people are looking for to use with FS. I know there's a strong desire for charts outside the US, unfortunately that's not going to happen without having to pay a lot and/or a subscription (I've been trying for over a year to make that happen with no success). The FMC idea is also great, and one I actually toyed with initially, however, a true FMC needs to be tailored specifically for the plane to include performance data and what not, otherwise it's just a glorified GPS. Using AirDisplay is actually a great way to display an FMC and is probably far better than a generic FMC that someone may try to make to work with all planes. iGmap is very cool tooRight now, there still isn't a huge customer base of iPad owning FS enthusiasts and I think that makes it hard for some developers to invest a great deal into an application. Apple is expected to sell nearly 34 million iPads this year alone so hopefully that will change soon. Especially when the second generation iPads are released and people start picking up first generation devices for cheap.I'd love to hear any other ideas you guys have though.

Hi Noah,Without sounding like the "mutual admiration club" I'd just like to say we applaud what you've done with FSKneeboard, from what I understand you were the first to create an FS-related iOS product so kudos for that. :)I have to echo your point regarding the lack of availability/affordability of chart data outside the US. In our own neck of the woods (Australia) we talked to AirServices for over a year when they finally got back to us they said they wanted thousands for a license fee plus royalties on each copy distributed. Pretty much the same goes for Europe or any other country where the official aerochart data provider is a privatized company, we're talking thousands again for a license - per year. That reality puts it out of reach for most flight simulation purposes. We have noticed a slight trend though, from 13 weeks ago to now our iPad app is now selling more copies than the iPhone app but even so, as you well say, the potential user base of FS enthusiats with an iPad is tiny. Let's hope that changes this year because the iPad seems to be the perfect platform for a whole raft of FS-connected gadgets.

Thank you very much, and I think you may be right about it being the first FS app.Yes, AIS was one of the ones I corresponded with, as well as NATS in the UK, Canada, Germany, Amsterdam....All the same thing. Either no response at all, or pay us $1,000s a year/month. It's too bad, but it is what it is I suppose.

Its already been done, I use AivlaSofts EFB on the iPad through Airdisplay, I'll never have to buy another chart again now, I just need to keep the Navigraph FMS data updated from time to time.http://www.aivlasoft.com/products/index.html

Cheers, Andy.

That's a nice solution, however to clarify - the "charts" being referred to here are real aviation charts such as VNC, VTC, WAC, TAC, Sectionals, Enroute Low/High and the like, i.e. digital versions of the real aviation charts used by real-world pilots. Until other countries are as generous and open with their aeronautical data as the US FAA is it will be very difficult.

I'd really love a configurable instrument/control display. There's an app out there that gives you a bit of stuff (FSXControl), but it doesn't seem very robust. It'd be cool to have the basic six instruments (or an MFD?), and toggle between that and a control screen that gives you access to lights, radios, gear, etc.Having the instruments on my ipad would allow me to stay zoomed out in the cockpit while retaining good visibility for instrument data.Of course, I suppose with a bit of work something like this would be possible to set up using AirDisplay.

Live tracking of your flights!

Flights can be viewed on any browsers supporting Google Map including mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, etc)!
Automatically starts flight logging after take-off!
Automatically ends flight logging after touch-down!
Record all your flights so you can view them any time!

I used FSXFollow before but it has a lot of limitations.
Screenshot doesn't really work in FSXFollow.
If you restart or refresh FSXFollow, you lose all previous tracking points.

FSX Flight Tracker is much much better!

Please give a try!

Thank You!
