Very Low FPS with a Core I7 rig

Featured Replies

Maybe in Antarctica with zero scenery or settings....
Nope. Standard Europe airport and default scenery. But that's exactly the point. If you get only 100 or even lower fps in that case, then there's apparently a different problem. With all the different add ons and maxed out settings it's simply impossible to tell if there's a serious other problem.Just changing parts of the hardware without knowing what's the problem is a rather expensive way of troubleshooting.I don't understand why so many people complain about not being able to run FSX maxed out. Even with mid settings you have much more details then many real multi million dollar sims (and fs9 I might add)

A GTX 460 is way better but it will NOT cure your extremely low fps!!!! With your present system FSX should run much better without any tweaks at all. I'd continue troubleshooting first.Have you checked what's your fps with all sliders to the left?
Hey, after going through nicks guide and tweaking my cfg i am finally getting between 20 to 45 fps, which for me is great. But I still have the problem of FSX stuttering when making turns. So I guess this is due to my low end graphics card. But i heard FSX doesnt like the GTX 460 that much, is it true? And thanks again for all your help guys :D

Hey guys I seem to have finally found the problem. I put all my sliders to the left and gradually increased them. The problem comes from textures, as soon as i increase the texture levels the stutters begin? Can someone please help me? :(

Come on, guys. Tweaking the fsx.cfg file or overclocking the CPU is not going to solve the problem of extremely low framerates on a PC spec of that calibre. It should be doing a lot better than that straight out of the box. We need to identify the root cause of the problem before thinking about tweaks.Check to see if your RAM is working properly. My old PC had a memory bandwidth problem with 2x512MB sticks installed (it wasn't running FSX). When I switched to a single 1GB stick of the same type (DDR400 at the time), my bandwidth doubled, and framerates in GT Legends (classic car race simulation) increased by 50%!

If you get already 20-45fps which isn't bad, the GTX460 will increase the performance noticable. As you mentioned that it's a texture problem this will for sure help :)Never heard that FSX doesn't like any GTX card. The 460 runs perfectly on my system.

Yeah, its the stuttering i get when turning the aircraft thats disturbing me. I guess its the texture problem. So you would recommend the GTX 460 right?

I'm quite happy with my GTX460, but if I were buying today, I would spend the extra money and get the 560 which isdefinitely a more powerful card and current "best bang for the buck" from nvidia.

Don't know if this isn't overkill for CPU dependant FSX. But if you play 'games' as well, you might consider it.But watch out, the 560 is running even hotter and needs a lot more power!

Only a little more... 170W vs 160W... and he's got a big power supply :(

Bert

Likely it is hidden .. you can unhide underTools > Folder Options > View Tab ..... and then select Show hidden files, folders, or drives
Does anyone know what this Tools section is in the german version of Windows 7? I would also change it, but I can´t find it.

Best regards, Steffen

Bert, so my 620W power supply is going to be sufficient for the 560 right?

Nvidia recommends a 500W power supply. So you are fine..http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-gtx-560ti-us.htmlBTW.. why does your sig say GTX460? I thought you had a 250 installed... :(
