So When & Where?

Featured Replies

I have to say that I've been watching this forum, (this topic), and even Googled in search of this "New" Simulator every week since I read that this new 'Flight' sim was on the horizon. I don't know if I'm using the right search methods, (wording, and engines), because the only thing I have ever found on the subject of Microsoft "Flight" was dated back quite a while ago. I don't remember the exact date but I want to say that it was something like late 2007 or 2008.It was the ad with a biplane in it and I may have seen 2 or 3 variations of the same ad. So my question is; Does anyone really know when this "Flight" sim is going to come out? Or how about any additional web info that was written in the last 3 months, (This is late Feb 2011 for those who may read this months from, now)? The threads and posts in this section seem to be all over the place or maybe it just appears that way. I admit that in my search for the "When and Where" answer I just quickly scan the posts and may have missed it. So does anyone know?

Frankly, I wasn't holding my breath but it was the only answer that I found to be more on the subject and didn't appear to be trying to audition for a spot on some improve show.

I'll buy that!In fact, an autumn 2011 release would seem a logical marketing strategy to capture the Christmas trade.Generally it is bad tactics to titillate your future customers for such a long time that they become sceptical and lose interest.Autumn/11 would be about one year from when MS began the Flight marketing tease.I'll further speculate that MS will ensure no repeat of the FSX early years' fiasco- and that FLIGHT will run well on any reasonable hardware of the past 18 months. Now that FS has gone commercial with Prepare3D, MS has a lot riding on the success of a new version.AR

I provided the only rational and correct answer, as well as the official link. The other replies to your question served only to underscore and illustrate my second paragraph.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I am aware of the many complaints about FSX not running well on "Reasonable hardware". But I persona;lly don't think that it all has to do with coding and feel that a decent percentage of the problem has to do with understanding the basic layout of the program and then how to load it and the add-ons. My computer info is at the bottom of this post and even though I know that many will doubt me when I say that I run FSX at full settings, I do.I have all the sliders full right in the Scenery tab and the Weather tab as well. The Traffic sliders are full right on most of the options with exceptions regarding boat and car traffic, (I didn't want every scene to look like a massive exodus at rush hour).Anyway, my point is that though it does take some trial and error, FSX isn't all that bad on hardware and I don't think you all need to go out and buy an i 7 975 and then O/C the thing right out of warranty 10 minutes later. On the other hand, there are flight "games" like the freeware "Aces High" that need no special things done or special applied pc knowledge to run great on most systems with a 2.6 GHz CPU and a basic on-board Graphics card.In all honesty, if this "Flight" game can produce the same, or better graphics and also be open to add-ons, I'm apt to consider buying it because I also can't claim perfection in FSX operations either. But I would use caution and wait for a while to see where the bugs are. BTW, last week I cut 2 holes in the removable side panel of my Computer Case and installed 2 Silverstione 120mm fans, (one in an exhaust position and one as an intake), and turned them up full. Incredably, I boosted my frame rate 8 to as much as 12 FPM''s!!! I never saw that coming, but I did expect a little higher FPM's because I could hear the CPU & GPU fans running up everytime I made a flight close to the ground in heavy rain.I still haven't O/C'd anything because I just can't complain about most of the Sim's performance. And now that I added those 2 case fans I just don't need to. I can barely hear the fans if I turn down the sound of the planes, (and I don't have the volume up very high at all). I strongly recomend this to anyone who DOESN'T think it will help their frame rates. You haven't got much to lose. Maybe $35.00 and an hour of your time, and if it dosen't help, it certainly shouldn't hurt. If you're happy with those sorts of framerates then good luck to you.

No, You misunderstood, I boosted my FPM's BY that much. For me, that meant that places like Miami Beach, at night, in heavy rain, changed my fpm's from 10 to 15, on up to as much as 27 fpm's. And yes, those kinds of fpm's under those conditions DEFINATELY are acceptable. But in places like Juneau at night and easy weather, I never had a problem and because I locked my FPM's at 32, I had no need to check how much better it was there. If I can get things to move smoothly anywhere I fly then I don't really care about the frame rates. It's the appearance that counts in the end. Still, if you have stuttering under the conditions I spoke of, (I prefer to fly at night and in storms myself), you should try it and if you don't, then forget about all this.

If you're happy with those sorts of framerates then good luck to you.

Whats "FPM"? Frames Per Minute? If thats the case you're watching a rendered slide show :(
