TrackIR

Featured Replies

I just purchased TrackIR 5. It was pretty much the last thing on my list of must haves. I was wondering a few things; has anyone attached the clip to anything other than a baseball cap? I am not too fond of the idea of having to wear a visor or hat everytime I fly,IMO, it would solve one thing but lead to another problem (sure I can look around, but not I've got a hat bill obstructing me). I was thinking of attaching it to a womans headband. Sure it will look silly, but better than a hat IMO. Also, is it something that I can disable at anytime and quickly enable it again? I ask because during longer durations of flight when not much is needed to be done and I am sitting idle, I don't want my head moves to be constantly picked up, I fear I would get motion sick if my head is always bobbing around non-stop.Hopefully I made a wise purchase, I needed just a bit more immersion in FSX, the hatswitch wasn't cutting it anymore. Also, how was setup? Was it painless or a headache?(let me apologize in advance if this would have been better placed in hardware section; I wasn't fully sure)

You'll enjoy TIR - for some people, it takes a bit of getting used to aqnd for others, not so much. You can attach the clip to pretty much anything that maintains a constant position *ON* your head. You need it to track your head movement not it's own bouncing so just make it secure.By default, the F9 key toggles TIR on/OFF and the F12 key centers the view. I have both these mapped to a rocker on my CH Yoke and if I need to look away at something, a quick flick of my thumb and TIR is disabled - flick back and flick to center and I'm good to go.Setup was a snap. Also, I suggest going to the Natural Point website and search for a "flight simulator" profile. Don't recall the exact name but someone craeted a profile for FSX for the TIR and it just set's it up so much faster. Don't recall the exact name.Remember, very small movements translate to broad movements on screen. Don't know if I can describe this well but I have always had a major problem with motion sickness from rapid eye movement - like first person shooter games, etc. So I was concerned about TIR. What works for me - Say I'm looking at the center of the screen and I want to look at a switch lower left - first thing I do is move my eyes only to lower left to locate the object - THEN slowly move my head to make my eyes be looking straight ahead. Now I can lean forward to come in closer or pull back if needed. It's more difficult to explain than it is to do.Enjoy! TIR will make your simming a whole new experience.Vic

They do sell a clip that attaches to a headset but it will cost you a bit more $$$, I use one of those golf hats you know the ones with just the visor and nothing on top.You get used to it after a bit, I don't even realize I wear it anymore, a couple times I even went out for coffee and still had the bloody thing on my hat. The whole trackir thing takes a few weeks to get used to, there are some good profiles for MSFS you can download on their site, I use one called "Seth - Flight" its pretty good. One thing that I tell people is that trackir does not like sunlight coming from behind you, it really can make it do some crazy things, so make sure if there is a window behind you cover it up, or the light will really interfere with that trackir sensor on top of your monitor. Once you get the hang of things you won't be disappointed.

Congratulations on getting TrackIR. Once you get used to it it is very good. There is a profile that was written by Bojote for FS2004, but it works very well for FSX and TIR5 it is the one I use. here is a linkhttp://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=38618#Post38618Look for the file FS2004-Optimized Flight. Be sure and read how to install it in the body of that post. I've used it for several months now and works well with FSX or X-Plane.The Profile that is listed as Seths Flight is pretty good to.F7 is the default key for pause, but it works really well to map it to a button on your joystick.Sincerely,Donald E. thanks for the input! Also, that awesome that it will work in X-Plane also as I fly that too. Didn't even think about it, always just heard about it being used in FSX.

Also works in DCS A-10c and many other titles. Buy the Trackclip Pro if you don't like the metal thing on your head but as others have said, you get used to wearing it and most people won't fly without TrackIR once they have experienced the step change in immersion. Cheers,Noel.

Warning - think twice about the side clip. If dropped, it breaks easy and I don't think it's better than the clip anyway.

I would advise starting out with a peaked cap until you get the hang of TrackIR. However, there are peaked caps and peaked caps. Some peaks are long some short some have a large peak rake and others have a smaller peak rake. Your not looking to keep the sun out so it's probably better going for a smaller peek with a small rake. I use a Naturalpoint cap which I got back in the days of Trackir 1 or 2. Don't worry about looks your flying a plane not participating in a fashion parade. Function over form is the way to go.Good luck.

Kudos on buying Track IR. IMHO it is probably one of the must have addons for flight simulation.I have both the Pro Clip and the baseball has clip and usually use the baseball hat clip, simply because the Pro-Clip doesn't fit well on most headsets.

I used to have the have the track clip that you attach to the cap but it was FOR ME a total pain. Even tough I switched off every single light source in the room and constantly pressed F12 to recenter, it would cause the view in FS to constantly jump back and forth and usually flip the view upside down and lock it there. When I got the track clip pro that you attach to the headset, all my problems went away. I did manage to break it when I got it out of the box, so yes, it should be handled carefully but some clue sorted it out. What I am simply saying is IF you have problems with the track clip, consider the track clip pro instead! I would prefer to have a working track clip/cap solution since you have a cable running to the track clip Pro - then again, I usually have the charger attached to my Logitech USB headset anyway so (looong VATSIM flights...).Edited: I should mention also that the track clip was used with TrackIR 3 while the Clip Pro is used with TrackIR 5. Same software but different hardware so perhaps my IR receiver simply wasn't working properly. Finally, I have made no changes to the default profile that is loaded with FS9 and FSX and it works perfectly for me.

It has taken me a good few months to get used to using TrackIR. It used to make me feel quite ill due to the constant movement in the VC view. However, since using the SETH FLIGHT profile from the Naturalpoint website I'm finding it alot easier and less vomit-inducing! I've also reduced the Y axis to stop bobbing up and down which looks very unrealistic in VC view. Now I've sorted it all out I do enjoy using it in aircraft like the RealAir Spitfire, SF260, DA Cheyenne etc. I stick to the hat switch in larger aircraft.I find the TrackPro clip more accurate but less easy to install on headphones.I don't own any baseball caps - can't stand the things. Think I'll also use one of those ladies hair clips as mentioned above. Better not forget to remove it before I leave the house :(

I believe I am getting my TrackIR today. So during my lunch break I will probably go out and buy a headband, I'll post some pics and let you know how it turns out! And yes, hopefully I will also never forget and leave the house with it on, it would be bad enough wearing a headband (my luck all that will be available is leopard print) but then to have martian looking antennas on the top of that would be quite embarrassing. I don't know how my fiance puts up with me :(

Well I downloaded both the FS2004 Optimized and Seths Flight. I def. prefer Seths flight. However, how do I adjust eyepoint? I find that I am poking out the top and looking around outside and I am also seating far back.<div><br></div><div><br></div>
