System stutter :o(

Hey allThanks for your help so far...So I have gone through what other processes are running while FSX is doing its stutter thing and after cross checking everything there is little else running that is not the ‘system’. I have checked the names and all are normal. I have also done a full virus and malware scan – totally clean. On top of this I have re checked the RAM and completed a full hard drive test – both working fine.I have done a defrag and it’s made no difference. I did a defrag thinking it may resolve the issue, not the case I then uninstalled FSX (and all the third party software) did another defrag before reinstalling FSX.Still the same issue.I have now removed the FSX.cfg file and alias I still get the stutter. It’s just so odd that this has only just started to happen, can’t help but feel there is no way around a complete wipe of my hard drive and starting again?I don’t have a virus checking on my FSX computer (I connect my laptop to it and virus check through the network). Windows update is disabled (I check daily) and Windows defender does not auto run.In fact Windows items that like to auto run have all been set not to.Just completed a full antivirus check (and Windows defender check) both clean and I have reinstalled my graphics card driver.I must admit I am not an overly techy person (above average but nothing compared to some of you guys – I am female and a natural blonde after all) so I am not so sure what Bufferpools are etc...As for the stuttering every ten seconds, on closer checking it would seem that standing still the fps is around 85+ once you taxi and it would seem that then the fps drop, only for a second to around 15, then go back to 85+...My test is sitting on at TAPA (runway 25) and just taxing down the runway at around 15kts (but to be clear the drop in fps happens at any airport, or while flying).HELP lolKimberly.Oh I forgot to add, I have been watching the task manager and other systems running while FSX does it stutter thing – there is nothing these that seems to be causing it, programme wise. It’s very odd indeed!

my stutters went away with the bufferpool thread, what you could do to try it is followingput in your cfg file[bufferpools]usepools=0nothing elseand try it you will have probebly much more fps and the next thing to do is start up fsx and fill in from unlimited to 30 when you have the bufferpools typed in

Certain airports / areas can cause stuttering as well, you might want to try from another airport just as a test.

Turn off the Ai to zero and see if that fixes it. I believe a lot of the stutter issues are caused due to AI spawning, have mine running from a ram drive to see if it helps as they spawn almost instantly. Less load time.

Hi Kim,You mentioned that you had reinstalled FSX, but that you also had some third party stuff reinstalled as well. Do you know if you were getting these stutters with just FSX ( no addons) installed? Not that you can't install third party stuff later, but it might give us some idea of what is happening if you could identify which addon is causing this (assuming one is). Also, try looking at CPU usage for FSX in task manager, and see if that percentage use of FSX.exe changes when the stutters occur, if it does then look for which service/app is increasing percentage CPU usage and that mint provide a clue. You may have tried that already.I'm no pc guru either, but if web can stop you having to reinstall the OS then that would be a good thing. Thanks, Bruce.

I was having the same problems as you described above. I finally solved the problem by doing the following:- Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, sound and most importantly your motherboard;- If you are over-clocking your processor return the clock settings to it's original settings, in other words do not over-clock your CPU;- Don't play too much with your fsx.cfg file, chances are you will make things worse by tweaking it too much.My FSX installation is running smooth after making the above adjustments. Hopefully it will work for you as well.Jorge

Yep, two common causes of stutters are AI traffic and road traffic.Alwasy worth turning them off to see if that is the casue of the problem.Often the only way to solve these problems is a process of elimination.IAN

You may need a utility like PROCMON (free download) to see what is causing your stutter, but for starters, running at 85 fpsis not a good base to work from. Either limit your fps within FSX, suggest at 30, or limit it outside FSX, by using an external frame limiter. If left unlimited, you will get wild fps swings and that alone could cause a stutter.

I would truly like to thank everyone for all their help.I think (subject to some heavy testing) I have solved the problem. This afternoon while watching TV and looking at FSX with the basic Airbus A321 (from FSX) sitting on the runway at EGLL I noticed that for over an hour the frame rates did not drop below their target of 40fps.HOWEVER the second I went to taxi every 10 seconds or so I got the stutter. I got to thinking, I have two graphic cards (even though FSX can’t run them in SLI mode) so I thought even though Windows has told me the cards were running normally what would happen if I removed the ‘primary’ card and put the secondary (back up) card in its place.Guess what – it worked! Frame rates stable! No stutter. So the cause of the problem, the primary graphics card which has now been replaced by its identical twin.I am now going to reinstall the basic third party software I use (ASX, PMDG MD11, Ultimate Traffic) and do some testing in the mean time – I shall keep you posted.I would like to thank you all so very much for your suggestions! Thanks GuysKissesKimberly.

Hi Bert, how would I use procmon to find out what is causing stutters ?Thanks a lot in advance,Vic

In my case I ran Procmon concurrently with FSX, and paused FSX as soon as I encountered a stutter.I then went to windowed mode and looked at the Procmon log to see what had been going on over the lastmoments before pausing FSX. There I found the Java quickstart routine doing it's thing (uninvited)and I found out how to prevent it from running via Google. That is just my story...
