April 11, 201115 yr Hello AllI would firstly like to thank you for reading this. I have search far and wide for a solution to my problem. Before three weeks ago FSX ran fantastically on my computer – I always got at least 40fps (sometimes at LHR with AI traffic on it dropped to around 18fps but was okay). However one week ago, after installing nothing new FSX started to ‘stutter’. Just while taxing along the FPS is normally 40 plus but every so often (around 10 seconds) FSX stutters, fps falls to around 6 and then around two seconds later all normal again, but then FSX seems to speed up for around a second.I have uninstalled flight sim and all the add on’s, now I am using PMDG’s MD11 and FSX with nothing else on it and it’s still happening (it also happens with FSX basic aircraft. The problem seems to happen on or off the ground (less so when cruising above FL300).I have checked, there are no programmes running in the back ground, I have done a full system scan and also a defrag.External texts show that the GPU, CPU and RAM are all running normally.I am so desperate to get this problem sorted, having run FSX untouched for over a year and never having a problem and now it suddenly starts it stutter issue :((Any suggestions anyone? Anything at all? Here is my ‘system’FS9 & FSX (normally just FSX)Operating System: Windows VistaCPU: Intel Core i7 CPU965 @3.20GHzMemory (RAM): 12.0 GBHard Drive Size: 1TB @ 7,200rpm (one unit)Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 (x2, but not running in SLU mode)DirectX Version: 10Screens: 1x HP w2228h(22") 1x HP w2558hc(25.5")Help me guys :() Any suggestions??

April 12, 201115 yr Hmm, never heard of that java quick starter. Interesting. Even if there's no stutter, will turning it off gain a little performance, a few frames?Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
April 12, 201115 yr Hmm, never heard of that java quick starter. Interesting. Even if there's no stutter, will turning it off gain a little performance, a few frames?BjornIts highly unlikely that you will gain any performance by shutting down a single service / process.
April 12, 201115 yr Not sure if this will necessarily eliminate the stutter problem, but it's worth a shot. You may have heard of FSX "Guru" ******* Altrive (Bojote). He has an excellent tweak tool that creates a new optimized fsx.cfg file (based on your input hardware specs) that most likely will eliminate any inefficient entries you currently have residing in your own fsx.cfg, and its safe because it offers to backup your existing file. Go to http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.htmlMany have run his tool and found FSX to run more smoothly as a result!Assuming you never optimized your system or FSX before, this is a nice first step to at least get FSX running as smoothly as possible. I would supplement this advice with a read of another expert (NickN) guide to optimizing XP OS at: http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1208959973With a properly setup combination of FSX and the OS, you should be able to eliminate any stutters. April 12, 201115 yr hi, did you have the latest driver for nvidia and also directx and windows updates?do you fly with unlimited fps and an external limiter0.2?did you try to renew the cfg file , how is your cfg file now paula
April 12, 201115 yr Author Hello AllI have tried the suggested programme (www.venetubo.com) and it has not made any difference at all. :( I thought that Java could be an issue, but I don’t even have it installed on my PC. The PC in question is reserved for FSX so hardly anything else ever gets installed on it. I do have Adobe running (which I have removed) but still the system stutters (70fps down to 12fps for a few seconds then back up again). :( I have uninstalled everything to do with FSX now, so only FSX and PMDG MD11 running and still the problem continues.Started to feel I may need to wipe and start again (I mean the OS). I have now completed tests on all the hardware and it’s working normally, all bang up to date on their drivers etc.I do fly with unlimited fps but what’s limiter0.2? What does that do?Thanks for your help guys, I am really hoping to avoid the head ache of a complete wipe and reinstall! :( RegardsKimberly.
April 12, 201115 yr Ditto! Java causes stutters on my system. I dont use an external limiter anymore for this reason. Have a look at Control Panel / Java / advanced / misc / java quickstarter - uncheck

April 12, 201115 yr Hi KimberlyI'd suggest backing up the fsx.cfg then removing the original and letting FSX generate a new cfg file when you restart it.Obviously you will have to tweak your settings again in the FSX GUI but it may cure the weird stutters (it did for me..).Have you checked in the task manager to see if there are any unusual processes running before you start FSX? I normally shut down most of them before starting FSX.Hope this helpsAdamLondon "Oxford" Airport Chillblast Core i5 14600KF Liquid Cooled RTX 4070 SUPER 32GB RAM. Internet: 1 Gig Fibre. April 12, 201115 yr The framerate limiter somehow stabilizes the framerate. Worth a shot.Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
April 12, 201115 yr "Have a look at Control Panel / Java / advanced / misc / java quickstarter - uncheck"I have never heard of this before, so I checked out my java and my advanced misc settings, I found two tick boxes, one puts an icon on my desktop and the other is Java Quick Starter and its unchecked and in fact it wont' let me check or uncheck it. So I guess I'm OK in that regard. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
April 12, 201115 yr My first suspicion with a stutter every 10 seconds is something running in the background. Most likely culprit a virus checker (also I disable windows defender). Also have you defragged and optimised your disks?Suggest adding the affinity mask tweak. I always recommend 14 on a quad system as it leaves core 0 to run the o/s and most other things leaving cores 1, 2 & 3 to run FSX without too much interference. Really smooths FSX for me and quite a few others:[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14You could try a few different bufferpools settings. I've lowered mine to the following and got increased smoothness recently:[bufferPools]Poolsize=3000Finally, you could overclock that i7 to 4 GHz - just take care to keep an eye on the temperatures and you may need some additional cooling.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
