And to add my 2 cents to what FR. Bill said, the location of the Tips and Tricks forum leaves much to be desired. It is buried as a sub-forum of FSX but contains (or should contain) T and T for all FS versions. I would bet that many have never discovered the T and T forum where it is located.I have mentioned this several times but apparently no one in management has considered the issue.

I have to say I visited the T and T forum the other day and was surprised at the info their but then realised alot of it was fairly old news. Whatever the outcome of this discussion it will be great to have a current and vetted resource for FSX.Tom

Another thread has highlighted that there are alot of tweak/hardware threads despite the new guidance provided in this forum. Maybe it is worth having a tweak/hardware section (as suggested by the other thread - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/333013-tweaks-hardware-forums/ ) to replace or run along side the T and T sub section of the MS FSX forum. This could be headed with the pinned thread I suggested previously and would provide an fsx related place to discuss hardware and the like as opposed to discussing this in other sections of the avsim forum.ThanksTom

Having such a pinned topic at the top of this forum (and wherever else) is a very good idea. Having said that which exact articles/posts you link to could be a bit more tricky. Arguably the most valuable resource about FSX and how to get it running well is Nicks original XP/Vista guide and the newer W7 guide both of which are firmly embedded and heavily cross-referenced within F1's SimForums. Not sure how AVSIM feels about sending potentially high numbers of (mostly newer?) users to a competitors forum? However by NOT including the links to Nick's guides you would invalidate the whole point of the pinned topic in the first place...In my opinion Nick's and Bojote's FSX guides complement each other very well. Without getting the basics right (according to the gospel of Nick yada yada) there is little to no point at all in trying Bojote's tweaks. Do I have this corrct? Also worth considering (at least in the spirit of fairness and comprehensive coverage) is Mathijs Kok's FSX guide on the Aerosoft forum. Whatever anyone may say about it there is some very good advice in there about how to run FSX with addons on low end hardware and as such it makes it well worthwhile linking to.

I also think that such a pinned topic or a seperate forum with active moderation would really help. And I have to admit that I, and I´m really often and long online in the forums have never seen this T&T forum. So it should be at lest better seen from the front site.In this discussion, another recently opened thread could be interesting, too. It deals with pritty the same but it has it´s core on the hardware posts which get posted in the FSX main forum. Here is it: http://forum.avsim.n...ardware-forums/Just my 2 cents.

Best regards, Steffen

Okay Bill, you got it! :( The suggestions here are great. Sometime before Sunday coming, I will empty the current T&T forum and move it to the base FS Category as a top level forum for all versions of FS. I will make an announcement when all that is completed. Thanks Bill for volunteering!

This is great news!!Do you still want me to put together a thread detailing tweaks/guides and associated links etc? I am more than happy for this task to be delegated to somebody else, particularly if there is somebody who is keen to do it.Tom

As has always been the case, content for the "new and improved T&T forum" will come mostly from user contributions. My task -as I see it- will be primarily to keep the forum clean, lean and organized.

You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I would have suggested you do...

Tom, start a new thread and I will move it over to the new T&T forum when completed. As soon as you post it, send me and email at t o m @ a v s i m.c o m and I will then lock the post.

New Tips and Tricks forum is opened. It is the FIRST forum now in the MSFS category. Bill, you are the MOD. Hop to it! Big%20Grin.gif Tom, thank you for your Tips posting which is now pinned.Bill, I have had to move ALL of the messages that were in the old T&T forum to the new one, rather than just delete them. I really suspect that there are some real jewels in there that deserve keeping. I will let you go looking for the pearls, so to speak.

Thanks! I've already spent the past 4+ hours going through every single message and have gleaned the (few) pearls and nuked the rest. From 17 pages of mostly drek to 1+ pages of gold. Most of the FS9 material was aggregated into a single thread, with the subject title revised to make it clearly "FS9/FS2004" related.I've also taken the time to follow every link that was posted to make certain it actually goes somewhere......especially those that linked back to an AVSIM forum. In some cases I had to search out the correct link and fix it in the post which cited it.Whew! :Nerd:Bill - MSFS Tips and Tricks Janitor
