Dear adminIt seems of late that there have been a number of threads relating to issues of performance and fps. As a result I was wondering if it would be worthwhile creating a thread pinned to the top of the FSX forum with info contained within it to setup FSXThere have been many developments and there are many tweaks that alot of us who follow the forum are aware of. However there will always be new users who don't know about this and may not know what to search for either (how can you search if you don't know what there is to search)Anyway we also know that there are some good resources available and these are often mentioned when a performance thread appears - so why not create a dedicate thread with the links to the various threads and resources on it.I can think of several resources already.Nickn's guideBojote tweaking utilityBojote shader modEnb bloomFps limiterSome general rules of pc performance I.e. Overclock etcLinks to some useful threadsThere will always be a wealth of info and huge differences of opinion but at least it could be a start point before the threads of I have poor performance start. Also it may be an idea to invite everyone to contribute some resources then they can be checked and if worthy added to the thread. If we don't bandaid the program as you say then how can we maximise our experience of it.I for one am tired of reading threads about "my pc won't run fsx" and atleast this would try to minimise the number of duplications that seem to occur. You realise there are always people starting out in this hobby who may like a one stop shop to atleast try and get the thing running ok.Providing help is doing just that, obviously if you don't need it you won't read it.The purpose of this thread is not for it to descend in to a heated discussion as so many of these threads do these days. Obviously not everyone is going to agree and not everyone is going to benefit but it is a thread to help an inform.ThanksTom

Hell of a selfish attitude, I think.If you're such a smart games programmer that you can make such an objective judgement, why don't you join up with X-Plane and show them how to make a better sim than FSX? They haven't so far and they could use some help. Or maybe apply for a programming position at Redmond, so you can show Microsoft how to make a sim that isn't broken?Yeah, Tom - it's a good idea. This is the major Avsim site, and I don't like seeing new guys threads asking the same questions over and over again. The Hints & Tips is possibly the right place, but no-one goes to that forum for anything, so (IMO) here, at the top, pinned, is as good a place as any. Certainly that's the way it is at the overclocker's forums.

Bah, I disagree - I never use his cfg's. The only thing I've done is highmemfix=1 and saved some higher LOD settings.

The suggestions made by NickN and ******* Bojote do not work for everyone. They are just suggestions and are not the "magic bullets" to make FSX run better. Good thought you had though! I agree with ryanbatcund and think the only tweak needed is HIGHMEMFIX=1 in your Graphics section.Best regards,Jim

And I guess I should be more clear - I thank ******* for his work, especially automating the process for a lot of users, but the tweaks just don't do justice for my rig.FPS Limiter v.02, highmemfix, and nvidia Inspector is what I use.

Great stuff! It may not be of use to everyone particularly those who are familiar with fsx. And of course not everything works for everyone either but it is a worthy start point and may help to save server space.Tom

Tom, with all respect the "Tips and Tricks" forum is a complete mess. Since it apparently hasn't had any active moderation in years, it is filled with off-topic questions despite the "Sticky" which plainly states in the thread title *****Do Not Post Questions In This Forum***** ... :( Worse still, most of the information there now is either wrong, or hopelessly out of date.For that forum to have any real functional purpose, it really needs to be flushed, and be assigned to a moderator who will keep it lean and clean. :Big Grin:Yes, I am volunteering for the job if you don't have anyone else in mind... :(
