April 21, 201115 yr Hello there. I have been experimenting with the external FPS limiter with my vanilla FSX.cfg file and except for the blurries here and there creeping in I've been extremely pleased with the outstanding increase in performance over not running it. I have the external limiter, the Java based one, set at 30fps and FSX's limiter set to UNLIMITED. While flying I am noticing blurries here and there, it's not a huge disgusting amount, but they are there as opposed to not being there when I DON'T run the external FPS limiter. I am running with all internal FSX sliders at maximum except traffic which is left at the default values. When I don't run the external limiter and with FSX's limiter set to 30, I ALWAYS get clean crisp textures anywhere I fly while using my OrbX scenery, however in large urban areas like Portland for example, I lose about 5-8 FPS.Is there anything that can be added to the fsx.cfg file to help texture loading when the FPS limiter inside FSX is set to unlimited? I am guessing that the unlimited FPS setting is what is introducing blurries here and there. Any input would be greatly appreciated. My system specs are in my signature. To add, I tried Bjote's (sp?) online Fsx.cfg file utility and doing so intoduced a MASSIVE amount of blurries while flying with the external limiter. I don't know what changes caused this amount of texture loading "delay", but the changes definately did not play well with an external limiter. CheersJocko Andrew
April 21, 201115 yr I agree with you - I get blurries in PNW when using the External limiter. With my last PC it was so bad I was forced to use in-game settings but then I got stutters. With my new PC at least I can handle a little blurries here and there. It probably has to do with how the program is limiting your fps... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 21, 201115 yr Author Yeah, thats what I was wondering, if setting FSX's internal limiter to "unlimited" turns something off in terms of the speed in which textures are loaded... All the different config lines that can be added or modified in the fsx.cfg file are kind of hard to grasp, especially when there's so much differing opinion on what does what exactly out there on the web... Some people say this works, some say it doesn't, it makes it very hard to start with a basic baseline. Andrew
April 22, 201115 yr I have some problems with blurries as well, but my system is ageing. After considerable experimenting I narrowed down the cause of my blurries to using the external FPS Limiter and using a number of Bjote's tweaks in my FSX config. As a result I no longer use the external limiter, but limit frames inside FSX to 35. As a result my blurries were greatly reduced. The only tweaks I still add to my config are [bufferPools]RejectThreshold=98304[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[GRAPHICS]HIGHMEMFIX=1These give me the least amount of blurries and decent performance in most situations. April 22, 201115 yr Author The external limiter for me is just to good to let go because of a couple tiles here and there being a little blurry now and then. When using the external limiter, and with FSX's internal limiter set to 'unlimited', I am gaining 8-10 fps in large built up urban areas like Portland and Seattle. I just wish I could figure out what FSX basically "turns off" when you set the internal limiter to 'unlimited'. Andrew
April 25, 201115 yr Author So there's no "guru's" on this forum that know anything about this issue? I kind of find that hard to believe... Andrew
April 25, 201115 yr So there's no "guru's" on this forum that know anything about this issue? I kind of find that hard to believe...Hard to believe or not, this has been discussed many times beforeand yes, your observation is shared by many..You have to pick one option or the other, I'm afraid. December 31, 201114 yr I just finished optimizing my computer via Nick N setup guide and Bojote tweaks on the following system:I5 2500k( non overclocked)Asus Gene IV MoboGSkil Ripjaws 8GB DDR1600 RAMGTX 460 1GB1980*1050 resolutionORBX PNW scenerynoticed that with the FPS limiter , i had more stutters and when flying the Feelthere E175 , with the LOD radius at 6.5 i was noticing blurries when taking off from CYXX ( normally under the aircraft as the scenery was having trouble keeping up).I then temporary O/C the system ( via the CPU Level UP!) to 4.2 GHZ , loaded the sim without the FPS limiter , set my FPS to 60 ( refresh rate of monitor).fired up the E175 and noticed the blurry textures reduced considerably so far ( have not tested in major urban areas yet )
