Wilco 737 PIC FPS in FSX?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,I was wondering what performance you guys tend to get with the Wilco 737 PIC? I really love these older jetliners (been flying the LDS767 non-stop lately) and was thinking of reinstaling the Wilco 737 PIC. I have become very strict on what gets installed and what doesn't, however, and want to avoid any risk of damaging FSX yet again. So therefor I'm asking: How's the performance of the Wilco 737 PIC? If you can compare to other addons, that'd be also helpful (LDS767, QW757, PMDG 747, PMDG MD-11, Leonardo Maddog, one of those would be most helpful)

Although the Wilco 737 (at least in its present form) is not a native FSX model, it seems to run pretty well for me. Going off sort of general impressions I would say it runs quite a bit smoother than the Level D 767 from the VC in FSX.Even if it didn't run especially smoothly, I still think I could forgive it a lot of things as it does have an extremely faithful flight model that is far better than a lot of other FS 737s (fly it in gusty conditions and check the inertia out and you'll see what I mean), and the ground handling is also superior to a lot of other FS 737s too. So I can live with the fact that external model is not the best, and that the VC is a bit spartan compared to more modern efforts, because it has it where it counts, notably on the overhead, which is extremely close to the real thing, and the CDU, which is also very good, that being a major plus point if you've been flying the Level D, because as you know, that too has a very good CDU..Al

+1. The only issue I have with it being a FS9 model port, is I can't do videos with it. I use GameCam for my videos, and it won't record when using a FS9 model for some reason. FRAPs though works fine, but of course using that affects performance significantly, no matter what model you fly!

Thanks

I know, I have all the required files, I only want to know whether its worth installing it.Thanks for comments so far. I'd appreciate a few more opinions, though, if possible.

Granted the Wilco 737 Pilot in command is a lot more complex than a default FSX aircraft as it is better modeled and is realistically simulated. There may be a slight drop in FPS, but nothing major from what I have seen.

It was one of my favorite planes when I used to fly it, can't hurt to give it a shot since you have the files.

Thanks all for your very quick replies! I'll simply take the shot, as PIC007 said. I'll report back when I see how it performs.

Started a flight at the threshhold of KBUF runway 5. I have installed GEX, REX and UTX - and performance was hilariously bad. Seriously, worst FPS a plane ever returned. In this situation, the LDS767 tends to give around 28FPS, the 737 PIC gave me about 19, after takeoff it dwindled around 15. Don't even wanna know how it performs at KJFK. I think I'm gonna remove it again. Hopefully feelthere will do a remake of this plane some day... Oh well, I guess I can leave it installed. Doesn't do any harm just sitting there, does it now?

Something isn't right.I have the Level-D and it pulls a lot more on the resources than the PIC 737 does.

I paid for the update and still can't get it to run correctly with Windows 7. A lot of the switches and buttons don't work with the FSX/W7 combo.

I was quite surprised, I can tell you that. I did install the FSX/Vista version, so that can't be that problem. I'll fidlle a bit with the settings in the configuration manager, see if it helps, although frankly, it shouldn't even be neccesary...

I use the LDS767 and the Wilco 737 and the 737 does have slightly better fps and I'm on FSX SP2 and Windows 7 64bit

Strange. Then I really do not know what can be wrong. The FPS fluctuate a lot, for as far as I can see. They'd jump from 20 to 30, from 30 to 16, from 16 to 20, back to 16, etctera. They never stay as high as 30, but they do reach it. It usually just hangs around 20. LDS767 hangs around 28-30. So I'm at a loss as to what causes the low FPS... I checked the dll.xml and corrected the mess the 737 made of it upon installation - I'm not sure what else could be wrong at this point.I'm on FSX+Acceleration, Windows 7 64-bit. Maybe Acceleration is the problem?

Just a quick response. I will do some tests and record the FPS along the way later this week for you. I am running the 737PIC version intended for win7. I have an i7-870, win-7 64 bit. using the external editor 2.0 set at 30 FPS and the drop in fps is so small I haven't brothered to pay special attention to it. I'm guessing it may be something real simple in the setup on installation to correct the hits you are getting.Ray
