Cooler Upgrade

I have a similar system to yours. I just replaced my Xigmatic Black Knight w/push-pull fans. I installed a new Corsair hd70 closed loop water cooler. My ambient temps went down 7-8*. My max temps went from 76-80 to 68-70. Love it!JoeWin7 Pro 64B| FSX ACCEL| ANTEC 900| i7 [email protected]| CORSAIR HD70| EVGA GTX470|6Gb MUSHKIN RL DDR3 1600 6-8-6-24| CORSAIR 750W PSUTX| CREATIVE SB X-Fi FATAL1TY
I have a closed loop CoolT similar to the Corsair units and have the 2600K running at 4200Mhz at 42 degrees Celsius. Easy to install, never go back to air coolers

Apparently the H100 showed up on Amazon the other day for $120. It's already been taken down, but I guess Corsair is looking at launching this thing pretty soon!

Oh boy, that can only mean there's a design flaw in my H60 - so they made a new one...lol

Only that it's only a single 120 rad and that the new cooler on the block completely and utterly invalidates your H60. You know that 650D has the perfect place for a 2x120 radiator up top Big%20Grin.gif. On a more serious note, I have some cool stuff to show regarding my 650D. Having no motherboard has really given me a lot of time to mess with it. And doing lab work gives me way too much time to goal tend the hardware forums...

Corsair is still not showing this on their site. The H70 is the newest model they are showing. I like my H70. My case won't take the H100, it has side by side 120mm fans.

Your H70, Ryans H60, and my H50 are all sufficient enough for normal computer use and most stress testing. But I'm not going to lie, I'm excited to see benchmarks prove that top air coolers can no longer match one of Corsair's liquid cooling units. Granted, the h100 will be more expensive than even the nicest of air coolers. And perhaps much later down the road I'll be tempted to get a hold of one if they perform exceptionally well. Summers are hot in Texas, and even hotter in this crummy apartment I'm living in.

Maybe they will let you exchange it?! You are a loyal Corsair customer after all.

Haha - I actually had a dream last night that I was in a Microcenter and I was trying to find a new cooler because mine blew up with the processor while trying to overclock to 6GHz LOL!!!

Nevermind that...How close did you get to 6.0Ghz before it fried?

Water cooled doods-What kind of temps are you guys getting under 'max' load with your Sandy Bridges, so I can compare to my Hyper 212+. I'm thinking of picking up an H70 -$99 at Frys and Microcenter- to see what I can get at 1.6v -yeah, I know I should leave well enough alone, but what the heck! I really think 5.0 is the sweet spot with my cpu and I know she'll do 5.4 but I'm curious to see if I can go beyond 5.4 ...for exhibition purposes only, of course. It would be really helpful if someone who has upgraded from air to water with their current cpu could share their thoughts.Thanx

FnN,I really wouldn't push it. I don't want to alarm anybody or even claim it's rampant (because it's not), but I've noticed a few threads popping up here and there regarding degradation of SB chips. It's just not worth wrecking a CPU to squeeze out a few more MHz. Honestly I would just enjoy whatever you can get at 1.4v or less - it's good enough! If you do that, an h60 should keep you under 70 most of the time. I'm all for going overkill on cooling, however! If that's what you want to do and if it will fit in your case, I would highly recommend foregoing the H70 adn waiting for the H100 instead. A thick 120mm radiator will never come close to a 2x120mm thinner radiator. It has already popped up and been taken down from several sites including Amazon. I imagine Corsair will officially announce the H100 at Computex (I believe the first week of June), very shortly if not immediately after which it will be available for purchase.Let me put it this way - the guys who modded their h50s with a 2x120mm radiator saw temperatures drop 5 to 10C. It's probably a safe assumption that this newer variant will have a stronger pump as well as an improved block. It's cool that people will no longer have to mod and void there warranties to get that kind of performance. Here it is for $115 on Provantage. Obviously they don't have it in stock yet, but at least it's listed.P.S. I'm not so good at brevity like some of the other guys around here. You would think as an engineering major that I would have that mastered!

Mornin Corey-Yeah, the h70 would be overkill in the sense that I don't have a need for it. I'm also not looking to squeeze a few more MHzees out of it either. As I said last night, I believe my mobo and cpu are in perfect harmony with the settings I use now. However, I'm curious about a few things: what effect an h70 would have on the amount volts required drive the cpu at 5.2 and 5.4GHz -I have an air cooled base reading; and of course, the risky part, how hi can she go  .

Max load with P95/OCCT 12 hrs of testing I saw was about 63C on core #3 @ 4GHz. I have the Corsair 650D case and the rear fan (on the case) sucks air in towards the rad. The only fans blowing air out is the top 240mm.Under a few hours of FSX load temps hover around 55C.oops I have the H60.
