May 23, 201115 yr Hi guys!I have seen in other threads some opinions about the upcoming release date. Some say it may be in just a few days, others say it may be in 2 weeks and others even talk about months. I want to analyze where we are now, and what lies ahead.AlphaThe alpha stage, is when the plane and its systems are under active development. Features are being implemented, lots of things are being debugged, tweaked, etc. at this stage, the systems aren't completed. the plane is used and tested only by members of the development team. As of today, we have passed this stage.Feature freezeAt this stage, the team knows what will be implemented. No more features will (should?) be implemented, as the proyect may run out of time/budged/scope. This stage has been passed.Beta testBy this time, the systems are completed and implemented. they just need optimizations, and tweaks. the plane and it systems are reasonably stable. it can be used by "non geeks" who don't care/know what a debugger is :( At that time, the bug tracker "explodes" with lots of reports. there are lots of msn/yahoo/skype chats discussing how a particular system is behaving, there are fixes and corrections everywhere. Updates are pushed nearly everyday to the beta testers. (Maybe nightly builds, as i do). The rate of "Issues reported and issues fixed" decreases day by day (I mean, there are more fixes than issues reported, so the quality of the product improves). The developers are VERY carefull at this stage, because they want to reduce the risk of introducing new bugs. When everything peace, love and free sex between the few beta testers and the team, then comes the next stage: A wider group of beta testers. This is where we are now. At the end of this stage.Wider group of beta testersNow, the heavy group of optimizations had been done. The heavy development muscle is nearly at rest. just light touches here and there. By this stage, the team is in a phase of "Customer support" answering the questions of the testers, and copy / pasting the "No... its not a bug, its a feature!" phrase everywhere :( the main objective of this phase is testing the product with lots of possible hardware and software variations. different specs, regions, etc. At this stage its possible that a few bugs see the light of day, but they should be squashed very easily. On parallel they check the servers for the HUGE load that is coming. They will test the e-commerce platform, to check everything is in place.By the end of this stage, they will make the final installers, test them etc. This is the stage where we are heading now.As you can see, there are lots and lots of variables that should be considered before the release. Also, they should be prepared for the "Oh Fck! B) " factor :biggrin:Taking aaaaaaall of that into account, and i think we are in a good heading for a very late June, early July release. There's no way we will see a release in a week or two. They wont give us a concrete date or even a time frame until they are at the mid or end of this last stage, so there's no point in asking but, try to set your expectations to something a bit more realistic (like i said: end of june, or early july) and all should be fine :( Juan Ramos

May 23, 201115 yr Guys, This is very well done and thought out....But its too black and white. I would imagine " we get it when its done" is the best answer we are ever gonna have. You can learn this the easy way by accepting it, or-choose the hard way, and continue finding your efforts/conculsions futile. I would imagine " we get it when its done" is the best answer we are ever gonna have. You can learn this the easy way by accepting it, or-choose the hard way, and continue finding your efforts/conculsions futile.Well, in the end they will give us a release date, its just a matter of when. but, we should set our expectations to something more realistic, and be open, because things may go wrong too. :( Juan Ramos
