Thinking of a fair price MCP

Featured Replies

Hello all,I did had a look at the GoFlight and CP and some other stuffs, seems like they are all over 300 GBP, which for me is a little too expensivedry.gif. But I do want a fully working one which I can use when I'm flying in the VC view, so that I don't have to use mouse at all to rotate the knobs.Big%20Grin.gif So, please recommend one for me, any reply is welcomedbiggrin.gifCheers,Frank Cao

How about the GF-MCP? (new, used).Or, there¡s the VR Insight M Panel.Cheers,- jahman.

Hey Frank. I would say your best bet(s) would be the VRinsight MCP combo, GoFlight MCPpro, or one of the MCP's from Opencockpits. I did alot of research between the VRi and the GF before buying my one. In the end went for the GoFlight. Main reasons were; 1) Top class support from Mitch and the rest of the team at GoFlight. The alan keys that came with my unit were the wrong size, i contacted them and within 2 days they had sent the correct keys all the way from the USA, to England, free of charge.2) MCP is layed out like a real 737 unit (as opposed to the generalised look on the VRinsight one). I guess this adds a sense of realism, I mainly use the Level D 767 and it too has a similar layout. 3) Made of solid durable metal with hard wearing, backlit, buttons and indicators. With the VRinsight the buttons look (and from what i've read) and feel alot cheaper and alot more 'flimsier'. There is also no backlighting on the buttons or the A/T and F/D so there is no immediate way to see what is selected/armed without looking at your monitor.4) No vertical speed readout on the VRi. IIRC, there is no vertical speed display on the MCP, again having to look back at your monitor. Now, saying all that, the VRi does have it's advantages;1) Included EFIS and Radio units/controls. This gives you even more control over the aircraft and its functions. For me though, i already owned the Saitek radio panel so this was a redundant feature (later purchased the OpenCockpits EFIS).2) Price and availability. The VRi can be picked up for ~£325 at flightstore.co.uk and you will find it to be more common with european vendors aswell. The only place i know in the UK that sells the GoFlight is RCsimulations at ~£365.I hope this has helped in some way (other than sending some of you to sleep...) Any questions about the GoFlight then don't hesitate to ask :(

Ill agree here, You can grab yourself a BU card for pretty cheap, extremely easy to use and hookup switches.Especially if you are just looking for switches to turn while in VC you dont really need displays, as they are in the VC, this would be perfect for you.I have built exactly what you are mentioning, an MCP with all the do dads including VNAV, LNAV, APP, VS, ALT, ALT hold, SPD.....every switch on the 737 MCP to be exact :( extremely easy to do, but takes a bit of hands on work, but that is also a lot of fun to do. If you do pursue this make SURE to use pushbuttons where needed and not toggle switches, I use toggle switches for all the push button switches on the MCP, the problem with that is say you are in LNAv mode, you switch to HDG mode, well the LNAV button on the VC will extinguish, but your toggle for LNAV will still be in the on postition, along with your selected HDG mode, not really an issue if using fsuipc along with mouse macros but just is not realistic. I know this sounds like a Odd mistake, but I didnt even think about this situation while building my MCP, so had to revamp it :( Also, get all your toggle switches, push button switches and rotary switches from EBAY, you can find them for quite cheap.I also built myself a EFIS panel, a mini radio stack, fuel cutoff switches, park brake switch, autobrake switch with these BU cards. they are the best thing since warm sliced bread :biggrin:These videos are how I learned how to use the BU card and interface it with fs, They are not my videos. The first shows how to connect switches to the cardhttp://www. youtube.com/watch?v=eB7FTO87MzoThe second is a demonstarion of how the switches work while in FShttp://www. youtube.com/watch?v=l1VU0GlHT8YP.S.S if you copy and paste these links, please backspace the word youtube once(in other words there is a space betweeen www. and youtube that shouldnt be there), I am not sure if I am allowed to lonk the actual video link in the postP.S.S.S be sure to look up the BU0836X card, I beleive the one Al linked is the 0836 without the X, the BU0836X is the newest one i beleive, And the much easier one to hookup to it.

I have the M-Panel as I got it on sale last year for $150. I love it on the LVD 767 as it works with ZERO kinks. Also doubles as a radio stack...I also use it with many prop planes such as Carenado and even AS Twin Otter and F1 BN2. It works with PMDG and WILCO birds but I find with the PMDG I keep losing my control inputs. This never happens with the other birds mentioned.

Me, I have the GF MCP and EFIS. Happy as a clam! :-)Cheers,- jahman.

I say pretty much +1 what everyone said about GoFlight above me. I looked at several products trying to decide my first big external piece of systems hardware (you really know you made a big leap from a dimestore joystick when you purchase one of these babies!). Current sale going on MCP normally $499USD to $399USD finally got me off my duff and buy one. Happy I did.Went I received it, had a few of the LED's not lighting up and was fearing now I got to go through all the repackaging, resending scenario to get this fixed. But no. Was on GoFlight technical support immediately and they walked me through it and fixed the issue over the phone. Was so impressed with the product and the support I immediately purchased the matching EFIS unit (also on sale). Man, all I can say what with my new "simpit" build, new GoFlight hardware, entire MegaScenery Earth Washington state installed, I have a whole new respect for FSX and simming in general! Think I can finally say that my simming days with good ol' FS2004 may be slowly, slipping away. ;)

I really wanted a GoFlight MCP as they look amazing. But they are $500 (with tax here in CANADA make that closer to $600) and I hear that they do not work with the PMDG birds in FS9 unless you buy a module from PMDG (for another $100, and from what I read you cannot get one now anyway due to a dispute).Anyone have the GF MCP working with PMDG planes?

HelloI got mine working in FS9 with the PMDG 737 using keymapping through Fsuipc, worked fine except the displays obviously where not in sync.LVL-D is supported directly by the Goflight drivers and i-Fly also have support for the Goflight stuff which will be integrated into Goflight Config application in the next Goflight software release.PMDG hopefully will join the party and not charge $100 for a driver this time around.

PMDG have said they are releasing an SDK for the NGX. This is what enables the level d to work so well with a wide variety of hardware. It will however, be down to hardware manufacturers or us as consumer to write/develop the interface between hardware and the NGX.

Running the PMDG B-747-400 here with GF MCP Pro under FSX Acceleration(Additional interface from FLightSimLabs required!).Works great!Cheers,- jahman.

Jahman, do you have sim pauses with those fslab drivers? When I attempt to use my CP Flight RS232 737 MCP,I get Pauses, rendering it unusable with PMDG 747X.

No pauses at all with my GF MCP-Pro, FlightSimLab Driver and PMDG B-747-400 with FSX/Accel and Vista-64/SP2.Works like a charm al the time, every time. The only pauses I get is when I press the pause key :( Cheers,- jahman.
