NGX Vertical Stab Detail

Featured Replies

This question is mainly for Jason B I guess. I've been noticing in all the livery previews the level of structural detail in the vertical stab. You can clearly see the wrinkles on the skin between the ribs and the spars. I've been looking at pictures of the actual airplane and they are identical. So my question is, are these wrinkles part of the model geometry or a bump map in the texture? However you guys did it, it looks amazing!!!Hiram Hunt

Hiram,Just plain old bump mapping along with a mix of spec and reflection highlights. Glad you like the level of detail, our intention with the NGX is basically this - it has to look identical to the real aircraft. I think we have achieved more than that... Cheers,

I've noticed those wrinkles on the tail as well. Just think, the paints on the stock PMDG plane are going to be so good, there will be no need for McPhat, unless you really want a very dirty plane.

When I started reading the original post, I was completely expecting you to say "will you customize the wrinkles for each airline". I was about to throw my monitor across the room :(

Sad to say I was expecting a complaint thread as well about how we'd missed some minute yet experience-ruining detail someone found. One of our screenshots would be marked up with red MS paint too.

I think the vast majority of us know how awsome the NGX is going to be. There are some whiners but you guys can't let them get to you. The only whining I've done is because I want this sucker in my hangar soooo bad. I have been studying the livery previews with a magnifying glass. Not to find nit picks but to enjoy all the tiny little details that are in the model and textures that bring this thing to life. I see something new everytime I look. I love that you guys have really captured the subtle curves at the interface of the nacelle, pylon and wing leading edge. Depending on what is texture and what is geometry the inboard lower wing skin looks like it's only between 4-8 polys and yet it still looks very detailed and smooth. Anyone can make something look awsome with tons of polys and smoothing but you guys have made this thing look REAL while being concious of performance. The exterior model is a true work of art. Congratulations on your masterpiece!Hiram Hunt

It looks MORE than identical? Wow, I guess Boeing are now having modify real ones to look more than identical to the NGX :(

Ryan, I'm sorry to say this... but in a lot of recent replies you sound so... so... irritated/cynical/annoyed/over the edge. Ever since you closed the thread about an ordinary Friday. I guess it's because of a few idiots around here and a lot of work. Just want to say: Keep up the good work!

Tabs if you don't cheer up I swear I'm going to break out the "When I was a kid we didn't have computers and we had to walk up hill both ways to school and our parents beat us with sticks if we got an A-" stories. I'll have to preach about how much worse you could have it, and that is REALLY annoying. And if that's not annoying enough I'll have to start telling you really corny inspirational stuff like "The night is always darkest just before the dawn" GAG! I don't want to have to go all Dr. Phil on you!!! Cheer up!! All the grown people here realize what PMDG has accomplished.Hiram Hunt

Dang! When you get a shot of the same aircraft at the same angle, you can really see how identical they are. I keep looking at the shape of the unpainted metal around the APU exhaust. Such a small thing, yet so perfect. Big hats off to Jason for the modeling and Pete for the painting! Ryan, I have two issues: Picture 1: There is clearly something wrong here, and I want you to know that I wont buy the NGX until this is fixed. Poop on you! Picture 2: How the heck am I supposed to fly this?! First, your PFD "blue" is all wrong, and second the modeling and angles are all wrong. No I don't have any technical documents, but I am far superior than you and I can tell you that this is wrong!

God, your math is all wrong. 4.987 + 18.6734 - 834905 is absolutely not 8367.398, but rather -834881.3396. Of course you're gettin confused with all your angles (I would if I were you!!!). Plus your π approximation of 3.14 certainly would not be sufficient to render the L2 window correctly - no way.Couldn't resist, sorry but j/k. :( Serious LOL at your #1 pic. Big%20Grin.gifsig.gif
