AOA And PMDG...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,This is great news that Angle of Attack and PMDG and joined together to offer first class, high quality training for us on the new and upcoing PMDG 737NGX! It really will be awesome! But, I just 'feel' that this will ad yet more delays to the project as I feel AOA and PMDG have only just started this and that AOA have got their hands on the NGX before we do...Now, I dont post often here at all I just like reading what the PMDG Community are saying but I just wanted to bring this to some people's attention...With the Quality and Professionalism that AOA strive to do in their training products, I just feel with this deal/agreement just having been taken place... How long will they take to make a WHOLE training regime/program/product of a high quality, and standard, useful to us and in High Definition, in readiness for DAY ONE of the NGX Release... AOA's Products are high-quality, High Definition and alot is packed into one product. I really do love both PMDG and AOA Products but I feel if AOA have only just got their hands on the NGX, Have they not started 'filming' the training on the NGX Yet?? If not, How long will this take? And if it is long, then surely, if they want to release the training on the day the NGX will be released, I have a feeling this will be delayed until AOA Have finished developing their training for this wonderful aircraft! In all honestly, I feel it is a very bold move on AOA's part to try and get their product/training out when the NGX comes out. Only today or a few days ago, Ryan and/or Vin said that we will shortly be going into the Wide Beta Stage and 'hopefully' this will be short as the PMDG team have made it a 'bugless' as possible when it enters the wide beta stage...So, I just feel that AOA are making a bold move in trying to get their product/training out to be in line with the release of the NGX so close to the end of this project! Also, will AOA's training be delaying the NGX Release??If I was AOA, I would make sure that, yes get the training done as efficiently as possible but I wouldnt say let's try and get it out on Day One of the NGX release seeing as we have only just got our hands on it!Ok, I maybe wrong and if so this whole post is completely useless... I maybe wrong in the case that AOA havent just got their hands on the NGX and that they have started developing the training for it months ago and ARE ready to release it on Day One of the NGX Release... For that (I.e. this post being wrong) I DO Apologise, but I just wanted to make my point known to the whole community!I would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this... Will it delay the product in anyway??Best Wishes to the Team and Everyone!Tristan Marchent

Why would they delay it? Use your nugget..they won't not release an otherwise fully ready for sale product for an outside company to have a release on the same day...most likely have less sales that way..give time between purchases for people to fork out cash for 2 products! We will likely see their aoa product after ngx release...think logically about it and stop going frantic about possible release delays! It's seriously unhealthy :(

Hi TristanI believe it was mention a few days ago that the AOA training will not affect the release of the NGX but in my previous posts the release of the NGX maybe a bit further away than we think.... the plot thickens :(

IMO this so called wide beta stage is going to be a minimum of a t least a month of solid testing, though I get the impression that alot of users around here think that this stage is just some formality that the product has to go through, when infact this is probably going to be the stage where most the little bugs are going to be found and touched up, a tedious task indeed. AOA have probably have most of their scripts and training laid out for a 737, they will just have to get some pmdg specific things squared away. I can't see this bird coming out in June or July so they have a bit of time to get it done, and I defiantly can't see pmdg holding off a release based on what they do.

You're right. PMDG, AoA and FS2Crew stated with all the suitable words that the NGX development is completely independent from AOA's and FS2Crew's development schedules. AoA also stated that they won't be releasing the full training material on day 1 because of the short time available. They'll release something, but not the full training material.

I have to agree with Mr Speaker, I have used the AoA MD-11 training program and Chris and Nick took quite a while with that a/c. They did a fantastic job but the videos took a lot of production processes utilizing EZ-Dok camera. I Would be extremely surprised if PMDG waited on AoA. It makes absolutely no sense to me. PMDG will be a while working on the beta feedback, my $$ is on a mid summer release and if sooner, I will be pleasantly surprised and have to move off of the MD-11 and the J41 to begin training on the 73-8 with or without the AoA program. Maybe the new version of EZ-Dok will be released as well.

AOA will not hold up the 737 NGX release. AOA has already stated that they will likely have only a portion of the training completed when the NGX releases, and the remaining portion of the program will release after the NGX.

Lets say PMDG has completed beta testing and is ready to release NGX. After all the time and money they have invested thus far, and the urgency of getting a return on that investment as soon as practicably possible, do you think they will really hold the release to coincide with a same day release by a third party? HELL NO!AOA and FS2crew are great, and they may even be a deciding factor on whether someone will purchase the NGX, but I'm sure the majority of simmers are not interested in spending money on those ancillary addons, as they are geared towards the smaller niche of folks who are die hard, by the book realism junkies. The success of NGX is not impeded if either product is not available at all or on the same day as release day. AOA's training has also taken on a new approach, as new products (like the MD-11) are streamed online, and it's likely they are developed piecemeal, so that there is a chance basic training could be available on day one, but further content will be developed after the NGX hits the market. IIFC, AOA's MD-11 training was also released over a few months. They are no longer producing one big final project (a months long endeavor), printing on DVD, and mailing out hard copies. If the old approach was being used, I seriously doubt Chris Palmer would have made the claim of AOA being ready on Day 1.FS2crew I can see being ready day one (I think they had their MD-11 module on sale at release day), as most of the foundation is being shared with the iFLY NG and supposedly a much needed SDK will be at Bryan's disposal to speed up coding.

Our development process is entirely independent of PMDG's - they will release regardless of whether or not we are ready, and will not hold back their product waiting for ours.
In all honestly, I feel it is a very bold move on AOA's part to try and get their product/training out when the NGX comes out.
It is, and it would be impossible to have everything completed by day one. We are aiming to have something released on day one. We have been working on our line of B737NG products since January, and while we have achieved a huge amount in that time, we are by no means final on what will be released on day one.
If I was AOA, I would make sure that, yes get the training done as efficiently as possible but I wouldnt say let's try and get it out on Day One of the NGX release seeing as we have only just got our hands on it!
Agreed, we will not skimp on quality in our ambition to meet our deadlines. I am putting my all into my role on this project - I recently acquired an AMM which is adding hugely to the scope of my systems lessons.

Thank you for the kind words! Interestingly, if I pull off another 18 hour day tomorrow I will overtake the MD-11 in terms of (my) hours worked on the project, and we have not even received the aircraft yet. Work thus far has been purely from FCOM/FCTM/AMM/Bill Bulfer/Chris Brady; using PMDG's aircraft comes much later in the process.

Ok I guess I need to shoot some of these claims down now because everyone seems to love jumping to ridiculous conclusions:1. The training is AoA's product, PMDG is not actively involved in creating it. 2. We did not make the claim that their training would be out on the NGX's release date - they did. We will NOT delay the NGX's release to ensure they meet this.3. AoA has had access to the flight manuals for quite a while now and have already written their scripts for the training. They are not just now beginning the project or anything like that.

Hey all, I thought I'd chime in as well here and put some of the fears you all have to rest. Like you, we are very excited to get the PMDG 737 NGX in our hands. We've been anticipating the arrival of the aircraft for a very long time now. We'll finally get to see a quality and complete 737 in FSX that we can base our training on. As always, it's no surprise this product is going to come from PMDG. All that said, PMDG has a massive amount of momentum and WILL NOT hold release for Angle of Attack. Any rumors of anything contrary to this, i.e., PMDG holding release waiting for us to 'release day one' are simply not true. I realize that most people will be plenty reasonable about this notion, but there are others that are so excited about this product coming out, that even the slightest thing that could get in the way turns into a full blown conspiracy. Honestly, it's given us all a bit of a chuckle.Rest Assured: PMDG will not hold their release, not even one minute, for our crew to be ready. If you hear or see anyone saying anything to the contrary, point them to this post. This is as official as it gets from the guys within Angle of Attack. All conspiracies and fears can stop here. As Nick stated, we have been working on this product far in advance of having the aircraft in our hands. We still have a tremendous amount of work to do, but we are far ahead of where we have been on these projects in the past, and that means you'll get training very close to release. As far as you having training day 1, you'll have training day 1. It will not be ALL the training, it may not even be our paid version of the training, but rest assured that we'll be there with you guys every step of the way in learning this aircraft, and eventually (and sooner than ever) getting you an amazing training package to compliment your complex and realistic 737 from PMDG. We have some incredible things in store for this product, and we're going further in depth with the systems, procedures, and flying abilities than any training we've ever done for Flight Simulator, and certainly that means that this will break new ground in FS Training. So, with all that said, you're about to see the best stuff yet to come out of the AOA factory. We're hard at work, focused as a team, and working at full engine power barreling down the runway. The best is truly yet to come from us. Thanks to all you guys for your great interest, and in some cases concern. We are passionate about this product as well as we can tell you are. Hang in there, we can all see the aircraft shaping up very nicely. It'll all be worth it in the end and will give us years and year of enjoyment. Throttle On!

I can't be in all places at once. If you see someone is having an issue with an Angle of Attack product, or something that should be brought to my attention, please message me. I want everyone to have a stellar experience with AOA. Thanks so much!

That's a correct assessment. I 'hope' to have an FS2Crew for the NGX ready when PMDG releases, but key word is 'hope'. But we all know that 'Hope' and 'What actually happens' are often two very very different things.Cheers,
