Your favourite enb-bloom settings?

I wonder if the problems you two have with it are due to the settings your using in the [GLOBAL] and [ENGINE] sections being set improperly. More specifically these settings in bold as taken as an example from John Venemas ini posted over at ORBX.[GLOBAL]UseEffect=1AlternativeDepth=1AllowAntialias=1 <- Nick has it set to 0 or off in his ENB guideBugFixMode=0SkipShaderOptimization=0QuadVertexBuffer=0EnableShaders_3_0=1UseMRTRendering=0AdditionalConfigFile=enbseries2.ini[ENGINE]ForceAnisotropicFiltering=1 <- Nick has it set to 0 or off in his ENB guideMaxAnisotropy=16ForceDisplayRefreshRate=0DisplayRefreshRateHz=60 <- Set to match your monitor refresh rateIf you compare these with what NickN has in his ENB setup guide you will notice that in the [GLOBAL] section he keeps AllowAntialias=1 set to =0 (off) and in the [ENGINE] section ForceAnisotropicFiltering=1 set to =0 (off). Also noted in Nick's ENB guide is to make sure that you have the DisplayRefreshRateHz=60 set to the correct value. On my rig with the AllowAntialias=0 <-set to off and ForceAnisotropicFiltering=0 <-set to off, as well as the DisplayRefreshRateHz= being set to match my screen, I get the same texture quality and FPS with the ENB turned on as I do with it off.Possibly the combination off these parts of the ENB ini settings, as well as the texture filtering settings used inside FSX and in nHancer/inspector, could explain the varience in performance between users?Maybe or maybe not, but it something you could test to see it it makes a difference in FPS and/or texture quality.
Thanks so much for your help, cmpbellsjc. I found a copy of John Venema's settings and tried them out and did not see a significant difference in FPS as well. I will next try the settings that you recommend above and see how it looks. Thanks again, everyone!

I'm using John Venema's settings with the day bloom values slightly reduced to eliminate that "blown out highlights" type look near the horizon:[bLOOM]BloomPowerDay=4BloomFadeTime=400BloomConstantDay=1BloomQuality=0BloomScreenLevelDay=75BloomCurveDay=0BloomPowerNight=18BloomConstantNight=2BloomCurveNight=0BloomScreenLevelNight=20BloomAdaptationScreenLevel=40BloomAdaptationMultiplier=50BloomAllowOversaturation=1BloomMaxLimit=100Only section that matters, the rest are off.
Thanks...gave it a try. Better but what is with the crazy 'glow' from the aircraft and buildings (roofs especially)?Which setting controls that effect?

There's another setting in the ENB ini that is often overlooked and makes a difference. Using the ini from John Venema at ORBX you will noticed in the [REFLECTION] section that he has UseEnvBump=1 <-set to 1. I have found that setting it to 0(zero) or off takes a lot of the extra glare out ie UseEnvBump=0[REFLECTION]ReflectionPower=100 <- reduce to 60ChromePower=100 <reduce to 60UseCurrentFrameReflection=1ReflectionQuality=1ReflectionSourceSpecular=50ReflectionSourceTFactor=50UseAdditiveReflection=1ReflectionDepthBias=0UseLowResReflection=1ReflectionSinglePass=1UseEnvBump=1 <- Try setting to 0 (zero)EnvBumpAmount=100EnvBumpOffset=100ReflectionFlip=0Some other note worth settings to adjust are below in bold[bLOOM]BloomPowerDay=7 <- A setting of around 4 to 6 is pretty good here to give some glare off the clouds, but not to much. The higher the number the more glare and whiteness off the clouds BloomFadeTime=400BloomConstantDay=1BloomQuality=0BloomScreenLevelDay=75 <- A setting here of around 35 will also help cut out the glareBloomCurveDay=0 BloomPowerNight=18BloomConstantNight=2BloomCurveNight=0BloomScreenLevelNight=20BloomAdaptationScreenLevel=40BloomAdaptationMultiplier=50BloomAllowOversaturation=1BloomMaxLimit=100[colorCORRECTION]DarkeningAmountDay=30 <- Way to dark in my opinion. A value of around 4 to 7 will darken the ground a little more than default but not make it look as washed out as default FSXScreenLevelDay=70 <- A value of around 30 works well hereScreenLevelNight=1DarkeningAmountNight=15GammaCurveDay=0 <- If the values above are set then 1 works good hereGammaCurveNight=-2ColorSaturationDay=2 <- Setting to 0 (zero) or 1 is probably the most that should be used. The higher the value the more staturated the look and more cartoon likeColorSaturationNight=0UsePaletteTexture=0This doesn't take into acount any settings for night use since some like night to be very bright and some like it very dark.Probably the easiest way to tweak is to set up a flight with some moderate non-thunder storm clouds to check the cloud reflection and set time at noon. Then once the flight is loaded set the view to windowed mode, open the ENB ini to make the adjustments, then go back to FSX and switch back to full screen to test. After the ini adjustments are made you must switch from windowed mode to full screen to see the results, failure to do so wont result any any visible difference, same principle when tweaking FSWC. Doing the adjustments like this will be the quickest way to make the adjustments with the least amount of fuss. I like just enough bloom to be noticable in the clouds and low vis conditions, but not enough to make a/c and white surfaces appear to glow, as well as just a touch of saturation to the ground textures and a hint of darkening.

I tried it to see what all the hype was about....then promptly removed it. Did not see anything that was remotely realistic in any of the "pre sets" that I tried, including the NickN and Orbx settings.I have not seen that 'sheen' over saturated with light effect anytime I have flown in the RW. I find ENB makes FSX look MORE like a game. Each to their own of course.....
Well those are over done with the effects the one from ORBX gives only a performance hit (it seems they have patent on helping FPS down the drain lol)As for a comparison to the real world I use the one from Tim (REX) with some adjustments + another bitmap + great performance :-)By far the best out there :-)Cheers,

I didn't like how the ENB-bloom settings made the REX2 tropical waters (reefs) look like, prior to these tweaks. Now they look almost the same as without the ENB bloom applied but I still get the other benefits of the effect. Thanks again!

Remember that sharing settings is mostly pointless, unless you also share the exact sky textures that you are using. Lighting in FS will change dramatically depending on sky textures, and so will the enb bloom.

Dont really agree at all.....some of these settings being discussed have provided valuable insight into the effects of this addon and have helped me reduce the awful 'white glow' that was completely saturating the building roof and aircraft wing textures.

Sure, but change your sky textures one day and the white glow could quite possible be worse than it was to start with. You have to tailor the config to each texture set if you want consistent results. My point was that unless the same texture set are used, sharing configs wont mean person B will see the same result on screen as person A.

Well for me, that wont be a problem as I don't change sky texture sets. Once I have this nailed down I should be good, although I am starting to get to the point where there seems very little difference if I have it enabled or not!It seems its either not worth having on at all or completely overdone and fake looking. Getting a middle ground seems tough to do. This was the issue I had with this mod in the first place and why I never bothered leaving it enabled.Might end up that way again......

Ye it's tough to get it perfect for your own system as there's so many variables and conditions at play. Well worth it when you finally do though; I couldn't fly without it now.

The standard FSX Bloom cripples framerates on my PC, so I don't use it. If this ENB one results in a performance hit of any kind, then I can do without it.

No effect on FPS on my rig with ENB. I almost wish there was and then I would remove it and stop messing around with the flaming settings!Never happy with it.....yet.
