Overstressing the Aircraft

Featured Replies

Why do so many of you have this weird obsession with trying to break the airplane??? Honestly, it's getting to the point of being ridiculous! Just fly the damn thing properly - there's no need for trying to fly it like a fighter jet.

again, I stress that dealing with failures of on board equipment is part of any type rating. So it makes perfect sense to include failures in the sim. And again, I dont actually use the failures because it is hard enough just flying it normally, but I do see that it makes sense to include them

If PMDG, REX and ORBX made a Flight Simulator Chuck Norris would of finally been defeated.
And what if Chuck Norris made simulator? ;)
that you f##k something up while flying and I'd like to have the consequesces of my behaviour in the aircraft.
There is no known simulator that could realistic represent structural failures due to over-stressing. You would need extremely advanced knowledge of materials and what and where can break at a given moment due to what forces. But in a commercial simulators they can investigate some accident-related qutions for example they can assume that some piece of aircraft failed and they want to know what would be the consequences. But they have no way of predicting what exactly would fail given pilot's out-of-envelope actions.

Gents-I am putting a cap on this discussion not because anyone has broken any rules, but because I'm not comfortable hosting a discussion that focuses on "can we pull the wings off with bad piloting."That isn't the point of our products, nor would it reflect well on our partners up at Boeing.
