Featured Replies

Hey guys.what is the difference between B737-800 and B737-900 apart from range?is there also any operational differences?

The Boeing 737-900 about 3 m longer than the -800, so you can put in more passangers... (Max. 189, like in the -800, but they cann have more legroom in the -900).

No big differences only in the -900 there is extra mid aisle lavatory. And more seats more widows ect ect...

I was more referring to Operational differences and/or Pilot/cockpit component enhancements/differences.As of pilot prospective, not how many cargo/passengers/range I can do with the bird. on how to fly the plane. e.g. in B738 there is EGPW but in 900 there is already EGPWS v2? or are there differences in Buttonsin the cockpit? or does the FMS in 900 has different or/and enhanced functions then 800, stuff like that.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is that the greater length means that tailstrike can occur at a lower pitch angle. 11 degrees for the -800, and 10 degrees for the -900.

900 cannot carry more passengers than the 800. The ER can, but due to safety regs, the pax count is the same.
Yes and no. Max capacity in a single class configuration, you're right, it can't. However, most(if not all) airlines that operate the -900 use a two class layout and those airlines would most certainly be able utilize more seats in a -900 than an -800 because due to the prescence of first/business class, they won't be maxing out the number of pax on the plane. Logically speaking, if you were an LCC airline and you operated in a single class format, it wouldn't make any sense for you to order a regular -900 over an -800. -johnny rodgers

From the front, I wouldn't have a clue if I'm flying a -8 or -9. I've heard some guys complain that the -9 is harder to land and is doggier, but I've never noticed anything. It's still got some wings and some wheels and a couple engines. Either way, rotate carefully.

Yes, good point. The extra space would indeed allow a two class config to be closer to the max pax allowed. Thanks.

Hi One think i would like to know: Why is it always 10 deg. for tailstrike no matter the flaps setting when tail clearance varies? In case of 800FLAP Liftoff Attitude Minimum Tail Clearance inches 1 8.9 10 5 8.9 10 10 8.7 10 15 8.5 13 25 8.3 15

Because what you're looking at there is based on the expected liftoff angle with varying flap settings, which will change because the lift characteristics will change with different flap settings. Tail strike angle is constant because it's based on the pitch angle at which the tail skid will contact the ground if the main wheels are on the ground, and that has nothing to do with flap setting.

900 comes standard with the two position tail skid originally from the short field performance package doesn't it?

Rotation should be up to 8 degrees anyway. You don't need any more pitch then that to get airborne.

True, but you should be aware of the margin for error if you over-rotate.
